This interview is 4 days old so you may have read it but you may not have put 2 and 2 together, at least not the way I see it. JW said we would hate the previous character because it was largely a repeat of a previous character. In response to that, he said that fans would "love" the next character. My interpretation of this is that it means the next character to be announced will not simply be a previous class with a new name.
I mentioned Jay’s past comment that players would “hate” the next character announced, since it was so similar to a past character. (Which turned out to be the Wizard, who is clearly similar to the Sorcerer/Sorceress, and didn’t result in hate, other than some “it’s too ‘Harry Potter’” comments about the name.) Jay said that comment had been overplayed a bit, and that he’d made it fairly offhand. When I asked him how players would feel about the next character, he grew a bit more serious, and said with emphasis, “I think players wll love the next class.”
I found a artwork trailor earlier today and saw a pic of a native American holding an axe and a red snake on his arm. mayb that could b one of the new classes.
We figure there will be some ranged weapon oriented class, like there is in every Diablo game, first it was the Rogue, then it was the Amazon. So you can pretty much bet there will be another ranged class, probably called a Ranger, Archer, Huntsman, Hunter, or the name of any other sort of class you identify with ranged weapons, but primarily bows.
When Diablo II came out it expanded on the Lore behind one of the oldest organisations in the series, The Zakarum. The Paladin is a member of this organisation, but he is not the only one that is mentioned. The Zakarum is said to have it's own Inquisition for of fanatical blade weilding zealots, otherwise called Inquisitors. But there are more ranks in the Zakarum, there are many cleric, priest, ranks. And other variations of the more crusader like Paladins like Cavalier and err Crusader.
I figure the next two will be ranged (like the Amazon or Rogue) and a second line fighter/light caster (like the Paladin). But that is probably where the similirities will end. Unless they make the Inquisitors of the Zakarum a playable class, while mentioned in lore, they are rather similar to the Paladin, the only real different is how closely they follow the doctrine of the Zakarum and their views of others.
The Paladin is a more "be thou for the people" type of guy, you have your beliefs and he has his, but that won't stop him from helping you in your hour of need. The Inquisitor, now there is your defender of the Light, smiter of evil and if you don't follow the teachings of the prophet Akarat good luck getting him to help you. He'd sooner kill you or convert you.
I wouldn't be surprised if they other two were something completely new, though I still feel you can class them are ranged class and second line fighter/light caster

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
If he emphasized loving it, it's obviously (to me) the amazon. Not that people liked the class, but that it's a fact that the majority of you are male, or in other words, dick heads. Literally.
I've always assumed that even though the Witchdoctor is black, that he was haitan since our ideas of Voodoo, vodun, are colonial era things coming about from those areas. That would mean that he is ANOTHER class that is from a time before the stated era, AND that he's American in origin.
I would say with that in mind that an Nemedian or Carthage styled unit is going to come into play. They still havent brought about an ancient typed class like the amazon yet, so why not a Praetorian or a Marauder, heck, let's do a Zulu Gatherer.

I would like to a see a Zealot class.
A more aggressive, cruel, gore paladin. He would not have auras, once he do not carry about altruism or leadership, but curses to condemn their enemys. Thats would be really great imo.
The other possibility behind Jay's statement that we might love the new class is that it may appeal to all the people who were sad to see the necromancer go.
I'm not talking about a necromancer in another package, but maybe something that deals a lot with death and decay or minion control.
Too bad we won't find out what the next class is until sometime next year. Then we'll probably have to wait until 2010 to find out about the final class.
We know for a fact there will be a 'ranged' type class as evidenced by the bow being dropped in the gameplay demo (the same way short staff = wizard). Now, from interviews, we also know the remaining classes have gone through lots of debate at Blizzard. We also know the ONLY returning class is Barbarian, so you can count all the others from previous games out (Warrior, Sorcerer, Rogue, Paladin, Necromancer, Amazon, Sorceress, Druid, Assassin).
This narrows the field. Now, my money is also on a Ranger-type class, but i doubt they would call it that. They also would avoid calling it a Hunter because Blizzard is sensitive to Diablo fans' paranoia that this game would be too much like WoW. My money is on 'Scavenger'.
"Preferring to utilize ranged combat, the scavenger will deal death from a distance. Shoot first, ask questions later and take whatever's left over. That is the Scavenger's Creed. Nothing has complained so far."
My other guess is on a controversial but cool character, 'way over the top character'. Probably a fall from grace character, a holy person who has lost their faith and now uses their divine powers for revenge.

is it a joke? not sure
anyway blueshrunken is right, asn or sin are both short for assassin and like teky i'm also lamenting that assassins so far seem not to be included in the plans (can always hope for an expansion ><)
assassin was my class and i'll play whatever is closest to it
however, i'd prefer no assassin (and hopefully a future addition of one) as opposed to having the assassin class lumped into an assassin/rogue/hunter/amazon rolled into one class
i agree with panda in that there will most likely be that ranged rolled into one kind of class and then some type of paladin or anti-paladin
i'm hoping for some caster-melee type.. as i like that hybrid playstyle the best.
in the end when all the 5 d3 classes are exposed, i have faith that all of us will be able to find a class that is enjoyable and somewhat similar to our current favorite playstyle

serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.

On the whole Praetorian Guard thing, take for example the moving characters on http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/environments/caldeum.xml
I think he meant assassin...maybe, I could be wrong...

And most people who are too lazy to spell out Assassin usually at least call it a Sin.
