I got this idea from those "three word story" threads I see often in forums(where people post three words at a time until the thread becomes a semi-coherent story). My plan is to start with an incredibly rough idea for a class, and through others posting it turns into a coherent class with well thought out ideas for skills, themes and what not. Please don't hesitate to add comments, suggestions or constructive criticism to other posters (just keep it civil and respectful please). No particular format is needed as long as everyone can read and understand it.
I'm willing to acknowledge that even though I think this will be a fun little thing to do, there is an equally high chance that it will crash and burn (if it is even a good idea in the first place). Well without procrastination I'll start with a pure casting class.
Name(Placeholder until a better suggestion comes along): Sorcerer/Sorceress
Contribution: [Skill]- Flame Stream: From the wielders hand erupts a powerful jet of intense flame, capable of cutting through the deadliest of demons.
Attributes/Specification: Does fire and physical damage, Level 1- 15-25 per second. Each subsequent level invested results in 25% damage increase as well as increases range. Knocks back foes.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
[Skill] Torch Weld: An intense burst of flame that melts the armor of enemy units and reduces movement speed. (Kind of like the armor melts and then rehardens in an odd shape to both provide less protection and make it harder to move around)
Super Duper Sexy Liquid Hot Magma All Over My Body: Sexy Lvl 1 - This skill does 10-20 fire dmg/sec for 5 seconds and spreads to other monsters that come in contact with an already burning monster. Ever level adds +30% dmg/sec and +0.5 seconds of duration.
This Super Duper Sexy skill could be modified damage wise so that it fits with diablo 3.
I also vote that the class be called "Yea I'm Sexy"
[skill] Call of the Souls: Caster calls the dark souls to work for his advantage. Souls drain enemy health by 15% and heal you by N% of life drained (N% = something that fits to D3). Each skill level increases the amounth of souls by 1 starting from 2 souls.
In short:
2 souls - each skill points invested after first increases number of souls by 1
15% damage taken from enemy by soul, only one soul for one monster.
Heal you by N%. Some kind of fitting percentage of the life drained returns to you.
Blackflames: Self buff skill like sin's fade. It changes ALL your fire based spell to a blackfire based spell. It just change the element (it won't cause fire damage anymore, it cause magic damage). Each point here increase the duration and could allso get some extra bonus like MP after kill.
If the class is based at fire spells i think he must 've somehing to change the element, to counter immune monsters.
Also will change the fire spells colors. It want be orange/red anymore. It get deep black/purple.
I think a politician class would be quality. He could use lingual skills to get the enemy to kill themselves or attack eachother, and even paralyze groups of monsters, and even have a passive skill bonus to gold dropping.
Let's try to add more variety than fire skills, lest the class end up too similar to WAR's Bright Wizard.
Soul Wraith: Rips out an enemy's soul (enemy must be below 25% health) and uses it to summon a Soul Wraith, which drifts towards other targets, ripping out their souls as well if their health is low enough. The Soul Wraith drains your mana as long as it is present, and can be banished at will.
EDIT: Came up with a better name.
I liked but...
I just think that this kind of skills (summon and use spiritual powers) are allready something that belongs to the WD.
fire nova - Spreads a nova of of destructive fire around you.
cooldown - 10 seconds (if any cooldown at all, just there because it's a very high damage spell)
SpellName: Arcanum Sanctum
Translation: Holy Arcane/Wisdom/Magic ( something like that :-p )
Adds a percentage of holy damage to your spells. Effective against undead and sorts
maybe its a bit lame but i thought it would be handy if there will not be a paladin/undeadsmiter class
In diablo we don't have Holy Damage or Shadow damage. Both holy and unholy spells do Magic (old name)/Arcane (new name) damage.
So your spell is just a copy of my spell =_='
New Spell:
Searing Rune
Creat a fire rune at target location. When a enemy cross it, it take heavy fire damage.
You can creat a maximun of 2 Searing Runes.
When you creat another Searing Rune, a Fire Wall will rise from the line that link the 2 points (the new one and the closest to it).
That's a cool idea, although I dunno how it would work in enclosed spaces, firewall works because it always goes a set length and you don't have to create a line between two points like you do with the Searing Runes. Perhaps there would be more incentive to use the spell if it had the capability to do more damage the closer the runes are to each other. Like if the flames grow more or less concentrated depending on the length apart of their sources. Then again, these are ideas are more or less just for fun so more power to you.
You guys have come up with some really cool ideas, but I agree that there is an overwhelming surplus of fire spells, lets see some others, they don't need to be amazing, but maybe just something to build another skill tree out of and make some more variety.
Maybe i should start off with a new spell..
Drench: The spell caster sends forth a wave of chilling water, radiating like a ring around the caster it covers enemies in a coat of freezing water. Chilling them to the bone(causes freezing affliction) and making them more susceptible to attack(lowers ice resistance by a %, lowers more resist with each point invested). It also does a small amount of ice damage, lets say 30, with 10 damage added per level. Each point invested also increases radius, has the potential to be devastating when used in conjunction with other ice spells (slows enemies and makes them more vulnerable to further damage and freezing). I guess you could say the spell is like Frost Nova 2.0.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
Description: Causes blood in the enemies body to expand, slicing their body internally as icicle projections form and freezing them.
Slows target and does ice damage.
Level 1: 35 damage, slows target 5%. Each subsequent point invested increases damage 15%, slows target 2% and increases radius. Works similar to a Necromancer curse (place cursor over group of enemies, any enemy caught in radius is affected.

Interesting. I think skeletons should be unaffected, for realism and because it would make for a more interesting balance.
Yes, I think that skeletons should be exempt from several status ailments, considering they seem pretty week(maybe a little better with the tough new shields and all, but they still seem like pretty generic cannon fodder) it might add a little bit of new challenge if they we're immune to poison, and the like.

The power of spell only depend of the numbers. If the damage is heavy as a meteor when a enemy cross it is a good spell.
Slowing an enemy by 5%? That might be a lot in WoW, but i think Diablo tends to up the scale a little. 50% would be a little more reasonable for a faster-paced game like Diablo 3.

So my name sugestion would be The Pyromancer.
