As long as they make sure to balance PvP seperately from PvE - which they said they can and will do - and they don't sacrifice time to develop and balance PvE content, I would be quite happy to make D3 an eSport.
I don't PvP myself - because I'm crap and I play HC - but I would love to watch competitive D3 PvP play.

Ewwww....no. Taking PvP to that end would ruin the soul of this game. It would likely turn out like Guild Wars PvP. A total shit show that was broken and imbalanced.
Diablo is about random, unmitigated violence
Though I do support giving players the option to 1v1 so we could bring back 'GM' melee duels. I want to be able to go off with my friends to a given location and do things our way. I don't need Blizzard telling me how to duel.
Not only is Blizzard not ever going to support D3 as an eSport, but it doesn't seem like they support their other games to the extent you would expect. I'm more familiar with how things went with WoW as opposed to SC2 tournaments.
Apparently it's a situation where Blizzard has a difficult time making money from tournaments, etc. On the other hand, a lot of people profit from their games (although somewhat indirectly) but are not connected to the company in any way.
I'm mainly talking about what happened to SC2 in Korea. But I definitely think the same issue was present in how they dealt with WoW as an eSport and SC2 in areas even outside South Korea.
I dunno, it seems like Blizzard is actually less interested in eSports than they have been in the past.
How many people want Diablo to be an eSports? I know I would, it would give Diablo pvp a whole new meaning. I think it would work great and get better the more blizzard works with it. You can compare it to wow pvp (I'd rather not lol) Diablo has Line of Sight, Cool-downs, Crowd Controls, Buffs, different builds for variety and does take teamwork and skill to win. Diablo 3 has already become way more complex than click-to-smash like in Diablo 2 (don't get me wrong I love Diablo 2). They could incorporate multiple pvp version like TDM, LMS, CTF or whatever the players want.
I was lucky enough to go to last years Blizzcon and exsperiance the Diablo 3 pvp multiple times. All the classes were very balanced there was no annoying healer like in wow and it was a whole lot more fun than wow. They could also incorporate an arena system and have the finals at Blizzcon every year. Sense they don't do Warcraft tournaments there is a spot open. If started early the eSports would last a long time since there is going to be 2 or 3 exspansions with the game.
I know the said they wouldn't do it but they also said that if there was enough of us who wants Diablo 3 to be an eSport they would do it. So who wants a more competitive pvp?
I believe they don't intend it to be such a big part of the game..
Diablo3 is and will be Pay2Win. Because of the RMAH. So... ofc it will not be something like Starcraft etc. Hell no.... and if so, yeh. Gratz to the most rich person beeing the best player in Diablo3.
Might be some truth to this currently. Items in Diablo 3 play a much larger part of surviving and doing damage then they did in Diablo 2. Someone who out gears you by a tier in D3 will have a huge advantage over you, but well see. People always suck at PvP anyway, I see kids who play SF day in day out for past years and they still haven't gotten any good ha.
The gear is a too much of deciding factor, while i primairly do PvP, here i will not. I don't see this game getting a large follow from competitve PvPers.
You can argue that part of the "skill" is creating a good gear set and yes while this is so in many rpg's there's simply too large of a gap between how items scale at 60, also the ability to buy gear without any effort in game is why i'll let this pass me by as there are beter made alternatives around and more upcoming.
I will play PvP on a competitive level if it's done as in another upcoming game where the PvP sets are fairly easy obtainable by all, So that gear becomes a matter of preference to add to your build being the choices you make in your gearing being more important then your accesibility to higher grade gear.
However seeing how much of an importance gear farming and now over the next few weeks buying will become it's unlikely to see that happening, so I don't see what claims blizzard could make to turn this into an esport if they wanted to other then throwing money at organisers.
With seeing how D3 plays out. Gear is much more important then it was in D2. Only way esports plays off is if set gear rules were established and I doubt there is many out there in the community that will put forth the hard work and dedication it would take to get it off the floor. D2 would be a much easier game to esport then D3. Either way, when there are variables like crit, gear, dice rolls. That opens the gates to complaining, worst thing you can have at the esport level is complaining of lucky rolls or foul play.
sounds like a horrendous idea, glad you don't work at blizzard. they would have to nerf every classes and implement some kinda of resillence armor to combat high crit rate/crit damage. would ruin pve side of the game and lose many customers.
I dont see D3 as an esport candidate, mo matter how balanced it will be or even if there is a separate PVP version of the skills. It simply cannot compete with other games, say Guild Wars 2 PVP.
I have to agree with Jay Wilson's stance on D3 NOT becoming an e-sport, I meant look what it's done to WoW. Forcing a whole new set of stats(Resil and PvP Power) and making spells that work differently in PvP and PvE. Not every Blizzard game has to become an e-sport and I'm quite happy with leaving it to SC2 and a bit of WoW arena here and there.
Personally I would love to see it hit the eSport potential as regardless of what the game is now it will evolve once PVP is released. I don't really care if i need to make a second set of gear for pvp because it makes sense that what is good for PVE isn't that great for PVP. I was a huge PVP (matches, not realm) fan in world of warcraft. You don't really know how to play your class until you've mastered PVP. I would love to watch streamed pvp matches and could probably waste alot of my life doing so. Just my two cents of course, but I fully intend on doing PVP. I would like to see objective driven PVP instead of just death match as it gives you more options and makes pvp more interesting. Capture the flag pvp is awesome, so is king of the hill type matches.
Diablo 3 as an eSport would be very cool for sure. BUT, I just don't see it as even possible. There are way too many abilities and variables that make this game almost impossible to balance enough to make it an eSport.
If Blizzard can use it's up/down scaling tech that it's planning on using for the Challenge modes in Wow and apply those to Diablo 3 in some way there could possibly be a way to make an eSport-ish kind of game within Diablo 3.
I would love for diablo 3 to become a e-sports.
That'd actually give the game an endgame!
Perhaps some sort of ladder system where you get placed in different leagues (starcraft?) would be best, as we all know Diablo is great with giving item levels.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but WITH INVUL WIZARDS FOR OVER A MONTH, AUCTION HOUSE EXPLOITS, ETC, ALL USED BY PEOPLE IN THE KNOW TO NET BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF GOLD, HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY BEGIN TO EVEN START TO PONDER A COMPETITIVE ANYTHING IN THIS GAME?
It would be such a hassle to balance gear, class balance, damage, survivability, the importance of both, etc. Mostly having gear making pvp unfair. I think I read in an interview about WoW PVP that if they had to change the arena pvp they'd standardize gear to make it more fair.
I don't PvP myself - because I'm crap and I play HC - but I would love to watch competitive D3 PvP play.

no..
hell no.
this isn't WoW.. I don't want them balancing talents and skills around pvp. This game is not an mmo.
move along.
