Don't really think any of this would be spoiler material if you have even been roughly following D3.
1) Tyrael-The duh theory I know. Deckard say no one has seen him sense worldstone. Believes Tyrael's physical body was destroyed when the worldstone blew up. The predictable answer.
2) Imperius--I think it is really unlikely this is the case. Just don't buy it.Too many reasons to doubt this, but some people like to think so.
3) My out of left field completely based off of vibe from Book of Cain---Malthael. He dissappeared when the worldstone was destroyed, Cain has talked to the "stranger" but doesn't know who he is, although he mentions suspecting who he really is. I think if it was Tyrael, Deckard would know it. Is connected to the worldstone so maybe he came to earth to look for it. Not sure why he would do it as a human but who knows.
Actually my understanding is that people have assumed the stranger is tyrael and they have labeled him in the scenes. But it hasn't been confirmed.I would think Deckard would realize that it was tyrael after talking to him. Which his writings indicate has occurred.
I think it seems pretty certain that the meteor is Tyrael at this point. "Justice falls upon Sanctuary" is just way too obvious. Then again he is supposed to be "dead"... but that might also explain why him falling out of the sky is not equal to him being banished. Win!

I had a discussion about this with one of my close friends about this. We both think its Tyrael but we wanted to see what other things we could come up with. Its all heavily speculation and some of its kinda far out there, some seems to hold some truth.
I think it's established that it's Tyrael. There's a firm link between Tyrael and a mortal "stranger" in Book of Cain. I believe his actions at the Arreat Summiy have finally been uncovered by the rest of the Angiris council, and he's been banished, much in the same way the Prime Evils were banished long ago. As such, like the Evils, he now inhabits the body of a mortal, but strives to aid Sanctuary. I think he'll supplant Deckard Cain for a time as the players' adviser.
This probably establishes Imperius as an aggressor, who I think will be driven to malignant action by Malthael when he returns.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
All in the Forger's wake is left bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the dark Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

Cain states in his journal that Tyrael's "physical form" was obliterated in the Worldstone's explosion, just as Baal's body was. He "dares not" express his suspicions about the meteor (which he refers to as the "falling star"), and seems worried about the Angiris Council in general and Tyrael in particular.
I think the Book of Cain might be tossing us a celestial red herring or two...but hey, it's a great book!
