The only problem was Izual who told the Prime Evils "how to" corrupt them, and hence they "played Tyrael" and us for fools.
Baal needed his infected soulstone to plunge it into the larger Worldstone
Never thought of him plungeing it into the worldstone did u read that or make it up? I thought he just needed it because it still held some of his power. But ur idea makes alot more sence and mabey all 3 were going to try to currupt the world stone and all planned to be trapped within the stones.
I have a few hypotheses on what happens after Tyreal throws his sword at the World Stone and shatters it. The balance of good and evil may have been made unstable with the destruction of the world stone, as the chamber was shaking when I finished the last Act. As to what happens with the sword, some of the power of the World Stone may have been trapped in the sword. The soul-stones themselves were encaging the souls of the Prime evils but, also held power, which Baal was after in LoD. This sword may contain all of the Prime evils inside of them, and whoever controls this sword channels the power of the Prime Evils. Whether or not Tyreal retreived his sword, we will find out in D3.
your going to trust the sword of 1,000 truths to a noob!
ACT_VI what a joke post
anyway, tyreal is either going to be one of the main bosses in d3 or he is going to be your helper in d3....... hes clearly important if he is the main picutre on the d3 website. no doubt diablo will find a way back and fight you though

the idea of the sword corrupting tyrael is a great one! they really emphasized the sword in the latest cinematic
Haha there are SO many parallels between Diablo and Warcraft! The World Tree that demons want to get as a source of power, the Wordstone that demons want for their power. Then theres how the wanderer is alot like arthas in how he merges with his ultimate enemy. And also, orcs are really just diablo barbs with green skin and tusks. or even better there are so friggin many parallels between Diablo 2 and LOTR. Dark lord(Sauron or Diablo) rising again, because of an object(The ring or soulstone) used to contain his power kept him alive after his body was destroyed. This object(the ring and the soulstone) corrupts those who possess it(The wanderer or that one human king... elendil?), and it must ne destroyed in the forge(Hellforge or mount doom) where it was made in the land where the dark lord is from(Mordor or Hell).
It's always been Blizzard's habit of corrupting the good guys.
But, I don't think Tyrael will be corrupted. He's always been on humanity's side, and even broke laws of non-interference in order to aid humanity.
Also, his character and strength seem above and beyond those of other Blizzard characters who have fallen to darkness.
I agree, IMO Tyrael is such a fan favorite because he is both a really nice/encouraging character(when 99% of other characters says stuff like "DIE!" he provides such a needed contrast by cheering you on and working hard to help you out) and he is one bada$$ mofo. Seriously I've never seen or imagined an angel could look that cool!
In some epic stories that are full of drastic changes and corruptions there have to be some pure incorruptible characters that provide a shoulder for the more vulnerable/unstable characters to lean on for support, figuratively of course. Examples would be mentor characters (Gandalf) or protective characters (Aragorn), and Tyrael covers both.
However if he was corrupted that would add a painful intrigue to the story that would effect players deeply, and thats good storytelling, But! with all of the chaos in sanctuary, I think a dependable/incorruptible/unchanging character like Tyrael is needed.
I personally would say he is most similar to characters like Thor from Marvel Comics (He is a divine warrior from above who takes it upon himself to defend humanity when his fellow immortals do not care at all, mostly. JUST like Tyrael!) or Optimus Prime.
Corrupting Tyrael would be like turning Optimus Prime Evil, which would be have a VERY powerful effect on the viewers, but would essentially rob them of a hero too.
I would personally call a demonic, corrupted Tyrael a highly improbable event. I would inflict bodily harm on myself (actually I would probably save that for the first Blizz dev I encounter...) if they have one of the most powerful beings in existence, whose sole existence rests on the foundation of Justice, turn into a frackin demon...
Much more likely, however, is a shift in Tyrael's priorities. That is to say that with the Prime Evils dispatched with, Tyrael's focus may have shifted from immediate protection of Sanctuary to the "big picture" of the Great Conflict. It is more probable (though I hope untrue) that things on Sanctuary in the past 20 years have proven unsavory to Tyrael and that the glimmer of hope he saw in humanity has been swallowed by the darkness of the human spirit in his eyes. If this was true and the Angiris Council held a recount (a la Florida in 2000) he may abstain. Leading to a tie. And the tie goes to destruction. And boom, we got a whole new level of this little shindig.

When killing two birds with one stone, there is a question that often floats in to my mind: Where the hell did I put that shotgun?
There is an important distinction between poetic justice and irony. Poetic justice kills a homicidal maniac with his own gun. Irony makes a homicidal maniac's gun drip water out the barrel.

It's highly unlikely that Tyrael will be turned to a darker or corrupted version. Tyrael was already portrayed as unsympathetic to humans in the Sin War books... his character has already transitioned out of that and into the heroic/good guy fighting on our side image. Transitioning back is possible...but seems a bit boringly cyclical.
There's always Malathael and Imperius to serve as angelic characters that stand against us. Not to mention Inarius as well (on the subject of fallen/corrupted angels).
Corrupting Tyrael seems to take the spotlight off already potentially rich undeveloped yet similar characters available in the series. Since Tyrael is being said to be a very central character in the game...and he was described to be as good as Inarius' brother in 'The Veiled Prophet' - it is probable that we may see Inarius find his way into the story after all- as a powerful conflicting force against Tyrael and us.
I would find it incredibly boring, cliche, predictable, out of character, and disappointing if Tyreal or the forces of heaven turn out to be evil/get corrupted. I mean, almost every fantasy/fiction story that has angels in it love to "corrupt" or "expose" them. It seems to much like an underlying agenda about religion, which is something nobody needs in a computer game.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
since they already used the idea of Tyrael not being who he seems (Baal disguised as him) and the idea of a corrupt angel (Izual) i kinda doubt that they'd use those ideas again.

Stay.
You don't always know where you stand,
'Till you know that you won't run away.
There's something inside me that feels...
Like breathing in sulfur.
My thoughts on this matter are pretty simple... and I apologize if anyone's stated this theory yet.
WARNING: This may contain spoilers about both Diablo 1 and Diablo 2
The three Prime Evils carry specific attributes according to the "purview" they are attributed to. For example... you notice that Baal is the type that bulldozes through anything... power matters to him. This is indicative of the fact that you have to battle your way "gladiator" style in order to fight him in the Throne of Destruction.
Next is Mephisto, who is extremely tricky and malipulating. Notice how you have to fight through a maze in order to find out where he is. He uses Hatred to trick and manipulate people to do his bidding.
Last is Diablo, the proverbial brains of this group. He's the most cunning. You have to solve "trials" in order to summon him in a sense of hitting switches to unlock his position.
Now, since labelling them, here is my theory:
Diablo learned of the soulstones from Izual. This began his plan to allow unsolicited entrance into Sanctuary. First, he was going to exile himself and his brothers onto Sanctuary, then get them trapped in the soul stones. Knowing the human psyche, he knew that the would be easily corrupted. He also knew, however, that they have the potential to be extremely powerful. Once his brothers and himself have been imprisoned into the soulstones, he would call out to the humans, twisting and corrupting them to eventually lead to his escape. The first part failed due to the weakness of the Prince... however the Warrior counteracted that failure by thrusting the shard into his own head.
Now. Diablo's plan went pretty fast here. He brought Maurius along because he knew his eyes and ears would be useful. Diablo set about to free his brothers from their imprisonment. He went to the Tomb of Tal Rasha where he may or may not have expected Tyreal. I believe his whole campaign was designed to get Tyreal's attention... but he didn't know he was going to fight him in the tomb itself... but due to Maurias's interjection, Diablo and Baal gained the upper hand. The two brothers went to Kurast to meet up with Mephisto that way Diablo could set in motion another aspect of his plan in Hell... but he knew he would be followed. Diablo then sent Baal to Harrogath and Arreat for the sole purpose of corrupting the Worldstone.
Here is where it gets a bit trickey. They were supposed to fail. The soulstones were supposed to be shattered. This was part of the plan entirely, so that the Prime Evils would be sent back (completely in essenece) to the Burning Hells. Diablo knew Tyreal would destroy the corrupted Worldstone, which meant that the Prime Evils would be free to walk around on Sanctuary free... and allow the battle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells wreak Destruction, Terror, and Hatred onto the mortal world. This defies the balance of Trang'Oul, yes... but neither the Heavens nor the Hells care at this point. Their purpose is to fight against their opposing force until the end of eternity. Now they have another stage with unwilling participants.
That's my theory.

Perhaps so, but from the mentionned artwork it is quite evident that we see an angelic figure changing form, perhaps he's not turning evil but merely more powerful, but we do see a corruption in his image that portrays a sense of evil.
I like the character that Tyrael is, but if they have to make changes to keep things interesting i vote that Tyrael is somehow "banished" from Heaven and is more like an "unofficial" angel and keeper of peace and justice. Maybe this happens because he's gone against Heaven's wishes.
I have a feeling, Tyrael will be destroyed by someone else, prime evil or another archangel...
Also, we don't see what happens in the cinematic after Marius leaves Tal Rasha's tomb.
The supposed battle between Tyrael and Diablo/Mephisto.
Whe don't know what state he was in? How he escaped? Neither what the Prime evils did to him...

The Diablo Series is one of the only games with such a crazy fanbase and no game can top that!
Well, in a way, Tyrael may either already be corrupted or became corrupted upon destroying the worldstone. Belial, Lord of Lies would be the most fitting corruption, as he could have been faking as an Archangel to guide you into completing Hell's plan. If you read up on Belial in mythology, he is described as a man with a flaming crown, riding atop a flaming chariot. He is also described as the king of the 72 demons of Solomon. This would be fitting as they could change the chariot to flaming wings instead for a better fit into the world of Diablo. We'll have to wait and see though...
I think it would be cool if they continued the story as such:
Tyrael stands trial for his apparent betrayal of the councils ruling to not interfere in sanctuary. For this he is stripped of his rank, thus losing angel status, the council casts him out of heaven where he crashes to sanctuary as a flaming meteor(since he has no wings he can't fly).
Deckard Cain is there as well as Leah to witness this. He then tells them of the councils plan to cleanse sanctuary. The council does not wish it to be this way but because Tyrael destroyed the Worldstone, Hell can now use sanctuary as a staging ground to mount it's attack on heaven. Thus sanctuary needs to be purged.
Tyrael in his weakened state can't help you. He only offers guidance and wisdom. You must rise to the occassion and set out to defeat both heaven's crusaders and hell's minions.
In the end Tyrael becomes bad because he was struck with worldstone shards but because he is so pure he was able to fend off being overtaken by Diablo's power for the last 20 years. Now that he is mortal and on the mortal plane he can no longer resist Diablo's power. In the end it will come about that the Angiris council are actually the ones responsible for making it possible for Diablo to re-enter sanctuary through Tyrael. Diablo is super strong for having taken over such a powerful being(Tyrael)
It is our duty to protect sanctuary and save Tyrael and get the Heaven's to notice what a wonderful job he actually did in protecting both sanctuary and the high heavens therefore Tyrael becomes the ruler of all of the kingdom of heaven.
Retarded I know but I'd still play through it just for shits and giggles.
