Dunno if this was posted yet or discussed, but I began to wonder about this script/poem I read, and it made sense, alot of sense:
"And a child will cradle Terror in his breast as the heart of man falls under the shadow.
A Wanderer will pass through the ancient lands trailing chaos in his wake.
The Three Brothers will be reunited as the mortal world trembles before their might.
And so it was foretold that the Three, once reunited, would be shattered again --
And the last of them would set his sights on the holy mount. The warnings held that Their defeat would be illusory - that the final gambit had yet to be played . . ."
And now at last the storm surges forth from the southlands, and the hand of Destruction Reaches out to undo the workings of the Ancients. The tides of Hell surge - ready to smash Down upon the shores of the mortal world - to drown the guilty and the innocent alike."
- Excerpt from the Prophecies of the Final Day

"The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary To defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – And even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."
- Excerpt from the Diablo 3 official website
"And a child will cradle Terror in his breast the heart of man falls under the shadow."
Child is Prince Abrecht: Diablo failed into corrupting King Leoric, thus went to more easier prey, the King's own son
"A Wanderer will pass through the ancient lands trailing chaos in his wake."
The Wanderer is Diablo himself, in full control of the Hero who defeated him, journeying eastward to reunite with his brothers: Mephisto and Baal
"The Three Brothers will be reunited as the mortal world trembles before their might."
Diablo has freed Baal, together, travelling East into Kurast, finally meeting Mephisto in his Durance of Hate
"And so it was foretold that the Three, once reunited, would be shattered again --"
All three of the Prime Evils were defeated by mortal heros of mankind
"And the last of them would set his sights on the holy mount. The warnings held that Their defeat would be illusory - that the final gambit had yet to be played . . ."
The last of the Prime Evils to be defeated was Baal: while Mephisto and Diablo were trying to reunite Hell, he went on a conquest for the Worldstone on Mount Arreat, and if Baal succeeds, which he did, their defeat will be just an illusion from their true plan which takes place in Diabl o3
"And now at last the storm surges forth from the southlands, and the hand of Destruction Reaches out to undo the workings of the Ancients. The tides of Hell surge - ready to smash Down upon the shores of the mortal world - to drown the guilty and the innocent alike."
Baal reaches Mount Arreat and seeks the Worldstone chamber, with his demonic army going southwards and battling the barbarian tribe of Harrogath.
When the hero(s) reach the Worldstone Chamber and defeat Baal, they were too late. The Worldstone was corrupted and Tyrael was forced to destroy it: thus assuring Evil's return into the future (Diablo 3)
"The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary To defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – And even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."
The comet is a warning from the Archangel Tyrael about the upcoming threat of the Burning Hells and the High Heavens. The Worldstone now gone, the forces of the High Heavens 'failing luminaries' and from the Burning Hells 'rising powers' prepare to take their unending war into the Sanctuary with no resistance. Basically meaning that Angels and Demons will wage war upon the world and mankind led by Tyrael will try to stop both sides, or atleast take their war elsewhere
The excerpt I saved was from a long time ago and my mind passed it occasionaly. Just then when Diablo 3 was announced it intrigued me, so I began to decipher it a bit and it made sense. It's source is unknown to me and I will have to look back at the manuals and the books for the time being

Alright, I just searched Diablo wiki and found the source of the 'Prophecy of the Final Day". In the game, Mephisto begins chanting a prophecy, the full prophecy can be heard in the Diablo 2 trailer unedited. It seems that all variations of human tribes: Amazons, Barbarians, Necormancers, etc, have a variation of Mephisto's prophecy
The 'Prophecy of the Final Day' comes from the Barbarian's version of the prophecy and can be found in the D2: LoD Manual
The prophecy of the final day has a second part and talked of an omen falling from the Heavens. I suppose Tyrael really is the vessel for a greater evil.
How? We onnly defeated the all three Primes at one time at in the passage it says "Their defeat would be illusory", and I'm pretty sure that illusory means illusion, which means that their defeat is not really a defeat, but more of a decoy to set their 'true' plan into motion which happens to be 20 years later into Diablo 3
so lemme guess theyre true plan was to get back into hell so they could unleash the full fury of Hell's power? it would make sense, since Mephisto's Must've stayed back to delay the heroes, Baal went on to wait and develop an army to siege Mount Arreat and Diablo was in hell cleaning up the mess and stopping the civil war
Imo the ultimate plan of the Three since the beginning was to destroy the Worldstone to weaken the barrier between Sanctuary and the Burning Hells/High Heaven. The Dark Exile, The imprisonment of the Three, The events of Tristram and of D2 were only mere parts of their plan.
The Worldstone destroyed they will now be able to acquire the true power of mankind, the power of the Nephalem allowing them to win the Great Conflict and end all creation once and for all.
Why do you think Blizz made an entire trilogy introducing the Nephalems? It will without doubt have a great importance in D3.
Imagine Diablo with the power of Uldyssian and you'll get a good idea of what to expect from D3.
EDIT: Lam Esen tome said that things wouldn't have a happy ending...
Also it says here "that the final gambit had yet to be played . . ." The final gambit refers to theire 'true' plan 20 years later, as it is after "Their defeat would be illusory" that being after the Primes' defeat.
Then stated here:
"And now at last the storm surges forth from the southlands, and the hand of Destruction Reaches out to undo the workings of the Ancients. The tides of Hell surge - ready to smash Down upon the shores of the mortal world - to drown the guilty and the innocent alike."
Now when Baal was travelling to Mount Arreat, I believe he was going North instead of South, so that pretty much rules out this part of the passage from Diablo 2: LoD. Mount Arreat being now a Crater of Arreat, that is where the Worldstone was destroyed, thus being the most vulnerable point on where the forces of the Burning Hells could unleash their unholy might, their quest being to conquer the whole Sanctuary then to continue their endless war against the High Heavens with the upper hand

i dont think 20 years would be enough to make Mortals evolve to Nephalem, it would take generations (since that's how they lost they're power)
and besides if they wanted to destroy the worldstone, dont you think Baal would've just done it? this is very open to arguement, but you cant say that he wouldnt have been able to do it bcuz he is a prime evil

Well what I have stated in the passage, their whole plan through Diablo 1 and 2 was just a decoy into tricking Tyrael and the mortal herosl into destroying the Worldstone and believing it was for the greater good.
20 years have passed, and Diablo probally has already finished what he has begun, once he entered the Burning Hells: Reunion. With all of the Burning Hells reunited and the Civil War at an end, AND the Worldstone destroyed, it is only a matter of time before the Burning Hells release their True and Unholy might against the denizens of the Sanctuary

I'm pretty sure that Baal wanted all the power of the Worldstone for himself, but my guess is that the Three predicted their failure. Still it doesn't matter as the ultimate power of the Nephalem seems to go beyond even that of the Worldstone.
They don't need to wait for humans to regain their full powers, they can awake their birthright within any of them.
Uldyssian was a simple farmer and it only took him a couple of months to become the most powerful being that ever existed on Sanctuary.

He may be a Prime Evil, but it is not uncommon with tales of gods that they cannot undo what another god has done. Perhaps since the Worldstone was made by an Angel, it could only be destroyed by an Angel, the best the Prime Evils could do would be to corrupt it to their own nefarious purposes necessitating the destruction of it.

as i said it is very open to an arguement, so saying something in return will just continue it forever, so i'll leave it rite now

so yea it does make sense that hell would twist mortals and turn them on us... ooohh im lookin forward to this... nothing like killing your own kind and being proud of it!
and L2P i meant that i have nothing else to say unless i find out more about it, i dont wanna be making false terms
Baal was indeed moving North which means he was coming from the Southlands. I really do need to catch up on my Diablo II lore but I would of thought Baal marched from Kehjistan to Mt. Arreat, hence moving northwards.
Woops I didn't see this, XD. Anyways, I understand what you are saying, but still it says "To drown the guilty and innocent alike". Now, if this part of the passage is the full plot to Diablo 2: LoD does it make sense that the Barbarian people are guilty? From what I've seen, the Barbarians are a proud and hardy people, simaler to the orcs in Warcraft. Yes i know there was Nithnalak (Spelling is not my forte) but that was just one person.
Guiltyness and Innocence as a whole makes sense as to everyone on the Sanctuary as a whole
