With the expansion announced, but still lacking some details, I'm wondering what everyone's early thoughts are around when they might start their journey into the new content with their HC characters.
I'm worried about a couple of things to just start right when it launches: one is server lag, the other is being in a completely new situation and not having any knowledge at all of what is coming my way.
I have two 60 characters, so it's possible I could go through with the "low" paragon level character first, then switch to my primary once I feel comfortable.
The server lag is my biggest concern for the first week of even trying to do HC. I wonder how stable things will be or if there will be lag/disconnects similar to the first week of playing the game back when it first came out. I'd much rather tear through in Core and then wait for things to settle down... but I strongly prefer hardcore nowadays.
Anyone else been thinking about this? What are your plans?
Unstable connection due to server lag is something I'd worry about too.
Even at MP0, the higher level monsters (up tp 70) and new bosses and minibosses should be a challenge. So I'm probably gonna see how things go in softcore before jumping into my HC characters.
I'll probably start HC off with crusader Although I'm not entirely sure yet.

hmmm...... Yeah the lag/D/C issue is something I hadn't considered. My plan was/is to start a Crus fresh on HC and play the game through anew. Come to think of it, if there are serious/noticeable connection issues, it will be obvious pretty soon and losing a low lvl char still in norm/nm wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Good idea.
Playing HC has really spoiled SC for me.
Same. But I'm really excited for the new economy, enchanting and drop system. So I'm back to SC for now

This is my plan. It will absorb any DC's without risking a character I've put in a lot more time on. Plus it will fit with my long term goal of finally getting a lvl 60 (now 70?) in each class in HC. I currently need to get the Wiz, Monk, and Barb up. Hopefully I'll have at least the Wiz and Monk there by the time RoS comes out.
Just like Ruksak and Zero said, Hardcore has really made softcore a bore for me.
I used to play HC on d2, and planned to only play hardcore when d3 launched, but the endgame was so impossibly hard at launch that we never bothered to make the switch to HC. It was only the other day when I was playing through just for the achievs that I realised I should have switched over a long time ago. Now, with approx 300 para levels on softcore I can't get rid of the feeling that I've wasted so much damned time.
From now on it's hardcore only, although I'm gonna play through act 5 RoS on SC just to check it out, just to see if there's anything that could surprise 1 shot me.
I feel so sad that with a SC account that would be around lvl300, I've got nothing to show on HC for it. So..so...sad.
Why didn't I play hardcore sooner...whhhhhhyyyy!?
I played through the impossible end game at launch. I was accused by my friends of "playing scared", but my characters lived a bit longer than theirs. In any event, i have only played HC, and i don't regret it. As long as they do count dead HC paragon for the account wide paragon 2.0, i am around account paragon level 85 in hc right now, and hope to be over 100 when RoS launches. I can't wait.
The "new economy", enchanting and drop system are still being improved.
And I did manage to get some gear upgrades and quite a few paragon levels back at that period, so it wasn't much of a waste.
Yeah well, Economy to me means more than just "Trading". It's also related to how the items are produced and distributed, so it kinda makes sense from that point.
But yeah. BoA definitely killed the Trading part of it.
I'd never have guessed they'd go this far. BoA materials, Legendaries, Sets and recipes? You can see all the rage in the forums right now, so I'd love to hear how they got to this decision internally.
I will wait until i play 200-300 hours with my sc wizard to learn to play first, to get know the monsters and everything else. After I get expirienced enough i will start playing my hc character.
I'll be playing HC on day one. SC just doesn't appeal to me any more. Without that sense of "if i die, i'm dead", the game just isn't enjoyable. I'm I the only one that feels that way about this game now?

There's a lot of us here who prefer hardcore, it makes the game infinitely more fun.
I'm already playing exclusively on HC, and I'll be starting a few more characters when loot 2.0 hits, but I don't think I will be buying the expansion on day one. Blizzard intends to ship the game with the same content that's available in the beta right now. Ladders, Trials and whatever they plan to add will most likely come later on, and to me the game will not be worth 40$ on launch. Messing around with the new class changes and itemization will be enough for me to hold me interested until they implement a meaningful and competitive end-game.

I got all but WD as lvl 60 also in softcore so I'm planning to level that WD to 60 before Expansion and then try out in softcore first since the level of difficulty I heard has gone up quite a bit. So i'll test out in softcore first.. maybe blast to 70 quickly and then jump back to HC.
Also I will test some different classes and see which one I want to play.
Well i have ventured thought normal difficulty so far. my plan was to at least get to lvl 60 and complete hell diff. but my long term goal is to complete all bosses on inferno before the expansion hits.
after expansion, Hmm who knows, im pretty bummed that you only gain paragon exp on max level instead of always would have made it so much better atleast for HC, dying at lvl 69 for some stupid reason, gives you 0 paragon instead of a healthy bunch so that you feel you have done atleast something.
but i guess i will atleast get 1 character max lvl on hardcore.

I only have 1 HC character, that is 30 or something - a wizard. Haven't played since early D3
I think I am going to make a crusader HC char though, always wanted a tanky class using a shield. And barbarians didn't really give me that feeling. Doubt I would play HC much anyway, I would absolutely hate losing my character if I died : P Maybe just once, being extremely cautious and taking my time. Would probably end up dying from lag or something stupid though, just my luck : P
