A friend and I were having a conversation about including some high end hardcore exclusive gear in Diablo III. Nothing that will totally outclass the softcore gear and make game easy, just slightly better items, maybe one extra tier of armor, or one extra quality grade on the gems, or a couple of unique items with interesting modifiers not found in softcore. Something to reward the hardcore players who are crazy enough to venture into inferno mode, and provide a very slight incentive for the uninitiated to try hardcore.
On the other hand I can see the negatives: "you are forcing people to play hardcore", "you are pandering to a minority of players", "I do not want any extra crutches when playing hardcore" etc. What do you think?
But after thinking about it for a bit more I do not actually think it's a bad idea. Even if it's just a few super elite items at the inferno/highest levels of the game.
If inferno is going to be as difficult as blizzard claims, a unique reward (in special items) to hardcore characters may be a positive thing
I was for it when I read the title, then maka made me reconsider. Now I'm thinking that HC exclusive items would be ok, but only in the form of additional "cosmetic" effects that don't necessarily affect yor power? And by that, I mean the same items you find in SC, but with added visual effects. And maybe some unique pet companions or something.
don't see why HC would get better items, though. Isn't that a bit counter intuitive? Isn't hardcore supposed to be harder, and not easyer, if anything? Because that's what it is: giving better items means the game becomes easyer.
I think HC is definitely more 'worthy' than SC chars, that's the whole point of playing HC. i think there should be different stuff for the HC chars, but i don't think they should outclass the SC gear, just be different. i'd be fine with just a cosmetic change, it'd be cool if some badass-looking gear was HC only, so when they die in inferno they will look good forever in the halls of the dead or whatever it's called.
I'm not against HC exclusive gear. Yes, HC should be more challenging. But I thought the idea was sort of a high risk/high reward system. But I don't think that it should be that much better in gear than softcore. Just, there should maybe be some items you could only get HC as an added bonus for playing it and even then you're definitely not guaranteed finding those items.
It's kind of like with ladder games. You didn't have to play ladder, and not playing ladder didn't really make a huge difference but there were some items you'd never get on a nonladder game. But people who didn't play ladder could deal with that just fine because the items weren't THAT much better on ladder.
Being lvl 60 with Inferno gear with Red Letters for a name (Is this still the case in D3?) in chat instead of white is all the bonus I need. HC is not about having special gear, its about being geared out in the highest lvl gear while everybody else can look at your gear/lvl in chat/in game and say, "Wow, he must be really good"
Assuming "gear" in this question refers to useable items that can affect your character's viability in combat, I am opposed to this. And I will be playing Hardcore.
Now if it's just vanity items, then OK, I'm all for that. But not actual useable gear that's going to give you a different arsenal and potency than if you were on Softcore. Hardcore mode is about perma-death and nothing more.
I'm certainly not opposed to the idea however I don't them them to be more powerful in any way over whats attainable in Softcore, eg I don't want it to have different stats or higher values when comparing to a softcore item of similar "value".
Maybe something to identify it as hardcore such as a special dye. But not better stats.
The gear should be aesthetically unique to softcore, not statistically.

More not in favor... I don't particularly care about it, but you want to consider this:
if you give HC players items with better stats, there will be the assumption that HC has it "easier" in terms of general content. This will diminish HC in the eyes of an SC player, if you ask me. Furthermore, it will drive some SC players to play HC, which will muddle the waters.

+1 on all counts. To me, making it easier to kill monsters is counterintuitive to the HC experience, and would take away from the sense of accomplishment.
They could put in a couple of extremely rare ones, not something everyone could get. They might even take out some items during the leveling process to make it harder as well, then softcore could have their exclusive items too.

good point, never considered this.

Simply being alive and in Inferno is all the boast you need.
