I prefer XP because it takes less memory. Vista has no problems for me, just that when I had it I only had a 1GB of RAM. I had no compatibility issues for Vista. I only had to download a driver for my printer, and it took about a minute.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
I have Vista, haven't tried SP3. Vista is soooo good. I can't believe so many people were whining about it. I had Diablo 2 running within hours of having my new system, and that apparently was a huge issue for some people.

I thought I was the only one!!
I have vista too and it is amazing, hence why I voted for it.

I am not a fan of Jazz music.
on a good day.... Optimistic and freedom-loving Jovial
and good-humored Honest and straightforward
Intellectual and philosophical
On a bad day.... Blindly optimistic and careless
Irresponsible and superficial Tactless and restless
Vista is so much cleaner, faster, and if you have 2 sticks of RAM in your rig it runs VERY smooth. All I need is a good graphics card. Which should be here by the end of the week...

i am an avid xp fan for these reasons, but didn't SP3 have a ton of problems with people who got stuck in a reboot cycle and couldn't go into safe mode to fix the problem? i'm still holding out for vista sp2 before i switch over. hopefully they resolve all the compatibility issues.
edit: for all of you saying vista is amazing, try ubuntu or opensuse...
Vista is supposed to be better when it comes to utilizing ram and multiple cores
My Windows XP runs slower than it should, supposedly because I've got a quad core and it isn't utilizing them properly (so I've read)

indeed it did. It tried to load amd chip sets as Intel chip sets thus creating a death cycle. That was fun at work to deal with. luckily i found out the hard way at home first and saved most the hp's at work
I've got 4GB of DDR2 RAM... Windows XP doesn't register anything past 3.25GB for some reason so I have to use a program like CPU-Z to see it. I think Vista registers more?
My 500GB HDD only comes up as 465GB too... iono if thats a Windows XP thing or not though as it seems alot of people have HDD problems like that
Hey Goodguy, you have an overclocked Q6600 right? Did you do that in the bios or use a program?

Get 64 bit. You have 32.

Bios. I've never used those programs. Your ram problem is due to you having a 32 bit operating system, but the hard drive situation has nothing to do with the OS.

like other people had said, get xp pro 64bit. or, you could use one of the many 64bit linux distros. As far as your HDD goes, its probably has 30GB in another partition.

2044MB of RAM
Vista is INCREDIBLE.
over all im going to vote xp though. At least for another 6 months or so

It runs the same when you have a lot of RAM to spare. When you have like 1 GB of RAM, XP is much faster.

actually its 16GB for 64bit. im not sure about vista, but xp 32bit only registers up to 3GB
edit: its only home premium that supports 16GB.
the ultimate packages support 128+GB but i dont see the point in that much ram
It is not limited to 16 GB.
