Making a hack and slash rpg with skill runes, but it is going to be a scroller like golden axe
basically its diablo 3 meets golden axe
( I originally was going to go isometric diablo 2 style, but the fact of the matter is isometric games are a huge pain in the ass most people take for granted)
In short im seeing if this is a game anyone would be interested as it is kind of targeting those who are fans of hack and slash rpgs
I already have fire ball ice bolt, Power attack, and electric shock with possible skill rune to make multy fire balls, or chain lightning
and also randomly generated loot and monsters yadda yadda, diablo style
In making this game I keep in mind that the kind of people who like diablo would like this game( in theory)
unless the whole golden axe style side scroller thing makes you puke, the main difference is you can use waypoints and pretty much go where you want, monster spawns are based on your character level, not the area your in
hearing all of this does it sound like a game you might be interested in playing? maybe on days when battlenet is down, and cant play diablo 3, or many years down the road when your tired of it.
Im asking the community if this is a game that might interest them, I had wanted to have something like this BEFORE diablo 3 came out, which would have been the ideal time, but it looks like its not going to happen.
I personally am liking the game so far, but that doesnt mean anyone else will, and id like to make some money off of this one
I will try to have some kind of screen shots at some point, right now I only have weapons, a few spell graphics, and gui, everything else is just empty graphics.
Defiantly my first thought was 'ugh side scrollers are dead', and 'PoE does the skill rune thing'. BUT, I suppose there is a pretty small market for any side scrollers, and my two top 10 games include Braid and Limbo. Personally I say go for it =) GTA was top down once, ya know?
Thanks for the replies, I dont have any sceen shots for you guys yet, but the game is comming along well and I now have over 14 skils/spells and effects
I would like some more opinions on what direction to take the game in
1: Level Cap, I am leaning to a cap of 50, but there is nothing stopping it from being an infinite dungeon infinite
level kind of thing as spells get better with your level and intelligence.
*right now you can pretty much go where you want, as monster level is based around character level,
I did this to give players freedom of where to be if they want to be in the snow, or the desert or what have you
but the areas also transist , you might start in the desert and run seamlessly until the scenery gradually changes to snow but maybe
so this is two questions
2: Do I make players travel to certain places linearly, or let they choose where to go
3: Do I make monster level cap based on Character level, or level of the area?
4: I was originally going to let players choose whatever skills they wanted but maybe I should enforce ""archetypes""
so maybe you can get acces to everything but only warriors will have access to combat skills etc.
I personally like the freedom to cast an aoe spell, then run
in swinging.
5: What do you people think about creatures that are animated as flying but not, kind of like the diablo 2 blood hawk
it doesnt really fly out of range, but just kind of floats above the ground
Guess thats it for now, comon people where are those opinions? if this was diablo 3 I would be flooded with opinions!
I dont care if you think you dont care about this game, when POE gets old, and battlenet is down for a week you might see your self crawling to me to play this, and other small games like it XD
1. Infinite? How about you make that later, and now have a cap. This way people are gonna come back when version 2 is announced (?)

3. I wanna point out an idea, having radies of level based monsters. Being that if you travel too far in 1 direction, its getting harder and harder. But if you return, they ar easy. And by radio i mean everyting in the first circle is easy, next circle is harder etc etc. until you find yourself in 4 corners of the world.
4. I find it fun to select every skill you'd like. If you want all skills you end up weak on them, or buff only 1 skill maximum. And by combining diffrent skills, you become diffrent races/types.
Idea: If you choose 4 elemental attacks, 3 attackboosters and 2 shieldmastery. Then it could combine the highest of the skills: Mage + Warrior = Battle Mage. And if you later make shield 3, its still the Battle Mage title until 4 shiledmastery, making the attackboost smaller. Making the title/race/type of hero maybe a Wizard or whatever title. Making titles is fun.
