I've been doing some plastic modeling recently... real-life aircraft for now... but I feel that something less real would be more up my alley, and I'm a bit worried about quality here (had some plastic model kits that were utter crap). If anyone here does that sort of stuff, I have some questions.
Warhammer seems to have quite something, but I am not interested in playing anything. What store sells those? Who makes them? Is there a place where I can see the whole selection of available models, with recommendations on what paint to use etc? What kind of paint does it require? (I prefer enamel paint, besides spray cans)
I don't want to overpay for some brand name, either... good models for some less-known universes would be just fine, I really don't care what the universe it is. Colorful, high-detail models of figures or vehicles/devices is my preference.
Not sure what store you have there, but there are Games Workshop stores. Games Workshop is the company that makes Warhammer.
The clerks in these store have lots of tips for painting the models too, what paints to use, what techniques to use.
Not sure which model stores sell Warhammer models, but if it has a Games Workshop sign, your on to a good start.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
From my experience, offline stores fail selection wise. Last time I've been to one they had 50 kits and none that I wanted. I prefer to buy my stuff online...
I've seen the chaos marines and their vehicles' models up close. The marines are pretty detailed for something that's takes up the surface area of a nickel, it really comes down to the painting quality that brings out the different shapes. The vehicles are different, they're bigger and thus have more detail. Also it should be said that almost everything is customizable. So if you get a Chaos Rhino you can put a rocket pod on top, you can dictate where hatches and control panels are. You can determine which gun ports are empty and not.
I don't personally own any, im just speaking from my experience when I helped my friend make his.
The painting is kind of the hallmark of the Warhammer franchise as a whole though, you have to make your own army colors, so it's not as if you have to do black and gold and cobalt. you can do pea green, pink, and purple if you want.
this is THE site for Warhammer 40K, Games Workshop stuff. http://www.belloflostsouls.net/
the sell some stuff for alot cheaper than GW sells them. and it is definitely better to search the net for cheaper stuff then buy direct from GW.
That doesn't seem much of a site, more like a blog. They have some links to their amazon division but I believe that can be found directly through amazon itself...
Seems like GW prefers acrylic paints. Not sure if I am going to be buying a whole different set of paints, honestly. What's wrong with enamel? lol

You can view the models at http://www.games-workshop.com and even buy them there.
