Okay. So, before you all tell me how dumb I am (or how right I must be, depending on your own beliefs) keep in mind that I am aware of just how wild an idea this is. I understand that there's literally no real substantial evidence to back up this idea and I know that there's extremely little chance of me being right here.
That beind said, wouldn't it be freakin' sweet if this were a hint at a Diablo movie finally being announced?
The following was posted on TheOneRing.Net forums by none other than world-renowned director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Blade II, and the upcoming Hobbit films):
In a few days there will be a BIG announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related. BEFORE anyone starts wondering the usual "how does he have time?, Is this detracting form The Hobbit?" etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured.
The key letter is "D"

Now, again, before anyone gets too excited: There are several other films that Guillermo is supposedly involved in in some capacity or other whose names begin with "D", those being Drood, Deadman, Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, and Death: The High Cost Of Living. It is almost definitely one of those films.
However... It is interesting that he makes such a prominent emphasis on "BIG" and "D". Sound familiar? Additionally, it should be noted that it was 2 years ago that Legendary Pictures 'accidentally' posted up the title of a Diablo film (along with their World of Warcraft film title) that was hastily removed. The number of coincidences are growing and I think I'm not alone in hoping for a film - unlikely as it is.
Lastly, it should be noted that whatever film this is, it will be released before 2011 (based on what was said in that post), seeing as how that is when the first Hobbit film is slated to be released.
Anyways, keep your fingers crossed but don't be too hopeful yet. We should know soon enough whether my wild ideas are accurate or a whole lot of phooey. (Probably being the latter).

If this turns out to be true, I'll [insert cliche]. I personally want to see a story based on the first generation nephalim. I don't think enough of their story was revealed in the books.
Well CGI is definately good enough these days to create fantastic interpretations of the Three and any other demon or angel you might want featured. But instinctively I wonder how they'd incorporate the angel/demon thing into a movie without making people associate it with Christianity. That'd be the biggest obstacle I'd say.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Guys, this is not a casting session. This thread is here to inform you all of the slim possibility and for subsequent discussion of the possibility of Guillermo del Toro directing the film. Please save your discussion of who could play who for another thread.
This thread is not for discussing Bioshock either. Come on guys, it isn't that hard to stay on topic. If you don't have anything to say about the actual topic at hand, don't say anything.
Although I would love for a Diablo movie to come out I don't think that quote means anything. I'm not denying it might be possible but I think you're a hardcore fan, who really wants something to happen, and so you're reading way too much into it Would be fucking awesome though and eventually they may try it I think a Warcraft film will come frist though.

the only one who can make a decent film like diablo is Quentin Tarantino i think.

dude... my post had NOTHING to do with Bioshock???????
I legitimately made a statement that he coudl have been refering to another "Big D".... i swear there is some mech called Big D in an anime...
I do not agree with the director choice Guillermo del Toro will not be able to bring out the true essence of the Diablo universe. Blade II missed the blade I badness and Pan's labirynth was a made so stupidly gory and cherry that it makes me sick. I have to admit that the guy writes and directs his movies and that's kind of rare. But I want to bring to the table a director that made war movies and gory movies....Ridley Scott. Kingdom of heaven, Gladiator, Hannibal Lecter, Black Hawk Down and of course BladeRunner... all his work and they relate a lot more to diablo than mister Toro's *shitty* movies (except HellBoy I and II).
* this is my opinion according to my taste you might get offended but ... shall I say "get over it":hammy:?
I'm really dissapointed to be closing this but people just don't seem to get some of the primary points of this thread. (Such as that I myself don't expect this to be true, this is not a discussion for who you want to be in it or who you want to direct it, or whether or not this quote could relate to some other film).
