In an effort to combat the amount of spam / porn posts we've been getting from bots as of late, I have instituted a new policy (and accompanying program) on the boards. From now on, new user registering will be automatically placed into a usergroup called "New Users". While in this group, they will be unable to post BBcode of any kind (including IMG and URL codes) until reaching 5 posts - at which point they will be transferred to the common Registered Users group.
This will prohibit bots from posting images or links.
To recap: We may continue to have spam / porn bots posting, but their posts will no longer contain dangerous / inappropriate images or links.
PS: This will only apply to bot accounts registering after this post time, so expect to continue seeing the odd spam / porn post here or there for a little while yet.
Is there a way to make 'New Users' unable to create threads? It would also help from those stupid first-post-threads with people telling us about Blizzard hiring, or give us a fascinating Diablo 3 hint that is 4 years old...

Excellent work, Jetrall. While there is never a silver bullet to stopping spam, there are still effective measure that can be done against them. And this is an important one. I really appreciate it.
Woohoo Good news all over the place today. Your the shisnit Jetall, no mater what everyone else says about you!

Then new users would be unable to post their introduction thread. They'd have to wait until post 6.

you could have the no post pics till 5 posts and the no making new threads. but the only thread you could make was in the introduction thread. could that be duable?

Well then make that forum section an exception... whatever it's just an idea. I find the first post 'noobs' to be kinda funny too, but it just gets kinda too much some times. I haven't seen a first-post-thread that was actually informed and something everyone hasn't already known for at least six months.

I'm not going to take away new user's abilities to make threads. That's just unfair to them.
And yes, we already use not only CAPTCHA but also Email-Validation. Bots are too smart... But at least they can't get around BBcode restrictions... (yet!)
So if a one-post username (milkinisy), registered this morning, Jun14, makes a post containing nekkid porno images like the post I just saw (Jun14, ~0915 EST in the Diablo 2 LoD forum), then... it isn't a bot?
