So, I was pondering the fact that 2010 has had a shitload of awesome releases so far. I've also come to realize that music means a lot of things to different people. To me, music is something I want to connect with, something that can amplify my thoughts and feelings in an artistic form. I usually let the music do the talking for me in that sense, allowing me to find closure in other ways than violent outburst and allowing me to disperse my emotions into the soundscape I emerge myself into.
Trippy, huh?
Well, I'd like to give you guys the opportunity to name your favorite albums of all time. I'd also like you to tell me what they mean to you on an emotional level. I can't update mine right now, but I will in the near future, so don't think I'm just making you waste your time.
Format:
- The name of the album, the artist, the year it was released (example, Reach For The Sun, The Dangerous Summer, 2009)
- What the album means to you in terms of how you came about finding the album, and how you connected with it. (example, "I found Reach For The Sun when I was looking around on Absolute Punk and somebody told me that the singer had really good vocals. This intrigued me because...")

You know, there are so many of them through the years that I don't think I can list them all. Some of my favorite ones include the first 4 Black Sabbath albums. Rollins Band "Weight" and "Come in and Burn", every Led Zeppelin album, most if not all Type O Negative. Hell, like I said to many of them to list.

Give, expecting nothing thereof. ------------ BoD - Come have some fun! Folks will always come and go, so enjoy them while they're meant to be in your life.
So, I found this band when I was looking at the Absolute Punk forum. One guy was like, "The Graduate (another really good band) and The Dangerous Summer both have really good vocalists." So I checked them out.
Now, at this point in my life, I was pretty depressed. This is also when I started stepping back from the forums a little bit, trying to find new communities and all that. I started to feel really disconnected, my mom was miserable from all the CHEMO and radiation she was on, and I felt like my friends were alienating me. So then I found The Dangerous Summer and they helped me back up.
What do I mean by that? Well, a lot of their subject matter relates to finding yourself in those around you, surrounding yourself with friends that you can really connect with, and just making the best of things. I listened to the whole album one night and I was just awestruck at how well I connected with it, both contextually and emotionally. The lead singer, A.J, wrote all the lyrics based on personal account, so the album is his story. It's about the world around him fell apart and he built himself back up by being with those who cared for him and vice versa.
The band also has a really good sound. I mean, if you don't listen to much pop-punk, you're probably under the impression that it's all just "cute guys and shitty lyrics". These guys are way different, I cannot stress this enough. They are budding musicians, but they know what they're doing and they excel in the things that matter like melding subject matter to the mood of the song, using elements of songs to tie the two together, just making the songs work like they're supposed to. It's all very tightly knit and I can tell they put a lot of heart into making this album one that anyone can pick up and love immediately.
Anyway, this band has really changed the way I look at misfortune and life in general. I'm not angry at any god (like I used to be and would preach from the rooftops), I'm not even angry at anyone, I just accept misfortune as it is. I feel that I can overcome any adversity if I put my faith into the right people and they do the same for me. I think it's a message that more people should adopt in this day in age: we're all people, we all have our ups and downs, but we shouldn't always be angry or hate anything. I prefer to keep away from the things I dislike because they're not worth my time and I don't find meditating on those things to be very uplifting or worthwhile.
This is why this album will always be one of my favorites.

I was really into Noisia at the time so I was really hyped for it, maybe a little too hyped.
I have never really been an album kind of guy, but damn that album contains a lot of gems.
