having 1 skill suck at low levels, and good at high levels, and having skill 2 rock at low levels, but be completely useless at high levels doesnt make a game balanced either ^.^ sorry
...
Oh, two handed weapons are pretty useless as well, every time I find a two handed weapon better than my 1 handed weapon, there is a 1 handed weapon right next to it that does the same ammount of damage, so two handed weapons have slightly better crits, big deal.
In fairness you just described Diablo 2 and a ton of other games. Still lame but not exactly unexpected.
plus wtf is up with attack speed? every time I use a skill it does not include attack speed, always the same no matter what weapon I use, so attack speed only means jack @#$$ when your doing a normal attack, which you wont be because you will be using skills to enhance your damage, so the whole damage per second thing doesnt mean anything
Yeah strangely enough, you need *cast speed* here for all skill types. This is also why you can't leach with any of your attack skills, they're more or less "spells".
If they fix 2 problems in torchlight i'll give it another try. First:
I hate all those crosss classes pssive skills. Like, there are around 10 skills that all the 3 classes have, i hate stuff like that.
The second issue is: fix the skill progression. Some skills are way to weak because it does not get improved dmg from stats points, wich is utterly fail.
Fixing those 2 issues, imo, tl will be a playable game.
played it a bit (up to level 20+) with the gunslinging chick and i found it quite amusing. still not something i'd come back home and start playing immediately (i'm so not gonna have a life with next years releases... D3, DA2 and Witcher 2...).
so anyway, the skills you can use offer some variety but you need to plan for them or you end up useless (very much like in Diablo 2).
i like how you can learn some random spells too (identify yay!) and how you teach the pet tricks. the alchemist and the barbarian kind of guy i only played up to around level 10 and i got bit bored so i cant comment on the skill development.
