Well if StarCraft II's beta is to be released at the end of the year, then the game will be at BlizzCon for sure.
The report also claims that Blizzard plans to shut down its original StarCraft servers in order to ensure the success of the sequel.
Let's see - first off this looks like just a rumor, but if it is true, then Diablo and Warcraft (not WoW) would be the last games left on Battle.net. It would be logical to guess that Diablo and Warcraft would need to get a sequel as well in order to make them worthy of new servers.
It doesn't seem logical for them to drop StarCraft I entirely. Perhaps they could keep the old games on Battle.net, and the new games on Battle.net 2 (beefier, more reliable Battle.net)
EDIT: Oh and by the way - I don't think Blizzard needs to ensure the sales of StarCraft II. I'm just saying...
I'm confused. If this really was a rumor that had gotten out, at what point would Blizzard concede that the secret it out and announce it on their own site?
still not quite sure about the "spare" servers. They replaced all of the older WoW servers (which were 3 on for each plus 1 more for the Expansion - assuming the Outland instances use the same instance server as the original). If you count the European servers, the US servers, the Asian servers plus upgrades, its most likely there arent any spare servers.

Sure. It's graphics and gameplay have held up really well over the years. I still enjoy to this day designing maps and playing them online with people.

more or less ur right. 1-2 years to beta and another 6 months to 1 year to release. Definitely not having a beta right after announcement.
