I heard about Demon's Souls as it first hit the market and how it was supposed to be one of the hardest games ever, so cold and unforgiving regarding any mistake you might make. So around new years, a few weeks ago, I picked it up and had an amazing experience. It didn't take me long to get the hang of it, sidestepping, moving in and out on your enemy to have him try and attack and miss etc.
It did take me a good 20+ something hours to finish the game (might've been 30+,although I left the game on even if I went out for 30 minutes a few times a week), and I played it through almost two more times after that with two new characters.
Just about two weeks ago I bought Dark Souls because there was no way I was missing out on what is a sequel to one of the best games ever made. I'm close to finishing it off and I must say that it surpasses Demon's Souls by far!
These games are not really suited for casual players with a severly limited time to dedicate to gaming. Unless you possess a couple of these traits: timing, patience, know-how, and actual brains this game is going to beat you to a pulp. Running into fights sword blazing doesn't work here, you will get slaughtered. Instead, study your enemy. Hold up your shield to block, close in on your enemy, back off, dodge, roll, etc. to get a hang of what moves your enemy has, and once you know - KILL HIM/HER/IT! Then you move on and repeat what you just did until you can, without any or much trouble at all, kill everything inbetween 2 bonfires, so you make some progress!
Reading about that guy who was stuck after the tutorial for several hours had me both smiling and face-palming. Make sure not to aggro too many enemies at once, but if you do, back off and then handle them. You already tried it? Not enough. Still getting ganged up on? Stop running and look everywhere before you move ahead. Adjust your camera to peek around corners. Always enter a new room with your shield up!
I want people to experience the awesomeness that is Dark Souls (and Demon's Souls)! Anryone can learn the basics of these games, it's only a matter of will. Scientists have monkeys talk sign language, and they can even ask for food and talk about the weather. If you cannot learn to press the button that shields your face when a sword flies towards it.. Wow.. Just wow.. If you're uneager to sit down and spend time making progress and learning the mechanics of this game, you're bound to have a shitty experience with millions of deaths and many headaches on your chest.
TL;DR
Spend some time playing and learning the basic mechanics to fucking conquer this bitch or fail miserably at this and many, many other games.. and life in general.
It isn't as hard as people make it out to be. You just have to understand that you WILL die, and that it's NOT A BAD THING that if you did. Literally the game could be beaten without leveling your character at all, I've seen people do it; even though you'd have to be very skilled and know what you're doing. Just think of death in Dark Souls similar to say, losing the battle but winning the war. If you learn from the experience and continue to put that experience into new encounters and such it'll make you so much better at the game.
This is me beating the crap out of a boss(considered difficult by the more casual gamers) no healing items, no consumables, naked, and with an unupgraded club
Head over to the official Dark Souls Facebook page, and you may discover a new "app" that says "an announcement is coming." The app is nothing more than a brick wall, which will seemingly be broken down once it reaches enough likes. While we'd like to think the wall hides a stack of delicious, fluffy pancakes, evidence points to the impending announcement of a PC version.
And, by evidence, we mean the Australian magazine PC PowerPlay, which strongly suggests Dark Souls will be featured in its April issue. An image of the magazine has popped up on NeoGAF, revealing a page styled after Dark Souls' infamous "YOU DIED" screen. The magazine is due on shelves April 18, so we should likely know exactly what's going on by then.
The possibility of a PC version of Dark Souls cropped up earlier this year when a Namco Bandai forum admin suggested users make a petition for the project. A week later, Namco took notice of the petition, with the admin telling users they had the company's attention and that "the future is in your hands."
It's a masterpiece. Perfect gameplay and the game has a "secret" brain-crushing plot twist. It has some technical issues (blight town basin and the magma fields in lost izalith). Still, worth it.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"In time the hissing of her sanity
Faded out her voice and soiled her name
And like marked pages in a diary
Everything seemed clean that is unstained
The incoherent talk of ordinary days
Why would we really need to live?
Decide what is clear and what's within a haze
What you should take and what to give" - Opeth

Goes to show you that with a little patience and knowledge you could make this game easy and a fun experience for anyone who tries it.
Rumor: Dark Souls PC announcement imminent
