you mean the brown spider things in the cave under the mother beast? i dont remember killing any of those, i usually just run away from everything before its too late! one of my most hated parts of the game really.
the City of the Ancients is just puzzles and the blobs (i think axe blizzard works best on those?). not my favorite place either. but its more the frustration of my first visit talking than the regions themselves.
It's an intense part of the game. The brown spiders can see you even when you're cloaked. Sometimes I save the game and map out the quickest way to the mother beast. Cause you can really get stuck in a corner with tons of those spiders attacking you. They even try to slow you down by tempting you with all those inventory items being funneled down those tubes.
inventory items funneled down tubes? i think i totally missed that. i mean... totally! never noticed something like this happened (and now i'm tempted to look at what's in those tubes, i'm pretty close to that part now, just got to the City of the Ancients).
Yeah it's like all those slimy things. Stuff you've been collecting throughout the whole game. All the same things are being collected by the mother beast and you can take some of the stuff if you're willing to stop and get it. Though by that point in the game there really is no point to it or anything.
i'm a curious man
if it was random items (weapons, rings etc). i had to throw quite a few things away (especially rings and necklaces) that i didnt want to - i know i'm a really bad hoarder - so i'd have room for some quest items...
Most of anything else you need can be found in the Ruloi Citadel. I think it's kind of fun to make the stone of the gorgon and dragon blood is fun, albeit completely useless.
When you get into Belial's laboratory, don't forget to wear your coward's target shield so those glowing orbs don't steal your ancient's stones.
If you think about it, there are quite a few ways you could screw up in that game to where you'd have to load a long ago game to fix it. Like what if you didn't have summon when it was time to solve that puzzle in the City of the Ancients? You know the ones where you have to make the different clouds disappear. I believe one of them disappears only with the magic of the level 3 summon. That dude that shoots the purple bolts.
you can get summon in many occasions, i dont see it possible to go around without them (and i think summon rank 3 throws rank 3 spark spells, doesnt it?). i usually missed prism thats found in much fewer places (Dark Halls for starters that's easily missed) but i'm not sure how needed it is. Mists of Doom is far more required and its missed occasionally too...
there are things that you could forget (like Silverleaf for the City of the Ancients) and that can be found around but its a pain in the ass. or like aloe/poison for the Huline Temple.
one of the reasons i'm happy with knowing what i need now
No one's reading any of this but us. Besides, I doubt most younger people would even have the patience for that game. There isn't a quest indicator, or a thing on the compass telling them which direction to go in.
most adventures wouldnt tell you what you needed to do either, at least the classics that everyone loved. dont see a reason why they wouldnt like Guardians of Destiny
and i'm pretty sure there are plenty walkthroughs around the net. but i pretty much agree that nobody else is reading this thread
Even with a walkthrough the game could still be pretty grueling. I mean, seriously, the ruins are one of the most infamous game locations I've ever experienced. The constant tremors, the far reaching darkness, the sheer absence of things. It's a lonely and isolated place and it's just creepier than hell with that weird chime music. And you have to go back and forth several times in it. And that part where you talk to the big Ssar in the mage tower? It was like sad and creepy at the same time. It's all speaking this broken English at you and then finally attacks you.
Did you ever get ambushed by all those Ssar in that one room that begins to flood? It's kind of a hard event to trigger, but you gotta stand on some doors or you'll drown and there are suddenly a bunch of them including the big gray ones all around you. It's in that room where if you look down through the cracks you actually see lava running through them.
never managed to trigger that event. i usually killed most Ssar before and it was pretty easy (if i managed the jumps) after that.
can be quite gruesome indeed, but the plot is so well played that its totally worth the effort. so after the first playthrough (with a walkthrough even better) its a pleasure to play. with 2 days play i'm already near the end!
if you play the "good" way you don't feel too alone, though. you always feel like someone's doing something for you, even if you have to do most things yourself.
Yeah the reward for the ruins is pretty great. You have one of the best cutscenes from the game and you emerge with a new curse control as well as all the rewards the Wild Ones bestow upon you. Ooh, not to mention mists of doom at that point. It's really a turning point in the game. You're definitely halfway through then and can manage most combat situations pretty easily. But I thought those Ssar were still pretty hard. Especially if they snuck up on you while in your lizard form.
havent had as many deaths as usually and now with Thohan's Greatsword regeneration effect in addition to my ring of health i cant see myself dying that easily
got my curse control maxed out now, too bad that you cant use it as a beast, makes that form pretty useless to be honest... but with magic high level lizard form becomes quite useful. running around quicker than any opponent and having a hard time to use all mana. and you can still change to human when your mana is almost done
almost done with City of the Ancients too btw, without even playing much (played like 10 minutes and got the 3rd out of 4 ivory chips. about to get that leeching bow now aswell (screwed up and now i'm gonna have to run for my life
Yeah it's a shame when in beast form you can't at least change yourself back to human if you want. Beast still kicks ass though if you're wearing that cat ring. He attacks really fast. Even makes a different face when he attacks which I always thought was amusing. That ring I'm talking about is in the Hive Caves where you get a copy of the ruins. Did you ever get it? When you are close to it you hear all these growling lion sounds.
no idea where to get it, i think i'll have to start watching the "Let's Play" videos again...
its too easy to forget things in this game... and i see he got a halberd that's a random rare drop from those goat-like enemies in the forest near the Gorkha (probably spelled wrong) swamp.
You actually won't get a halbred until you're finished with the Urbish Mines. Hand of Fate you get in the City of Yvel. Don't watch those videos! Just ask me!
Actually, Kiko's videos are pretty entertaining, but sometimes his playing style drives me crazy. His worst one is of Doom 3 where he uses the shotgun way too much. Even on the last level when his BFG-9000 is fully loaded with ammo and he's still using his shotgun.
