unpatched you killed Belial easily without having to use his horn. with patch 1.30 he was a major pain in the butt had to use the horn, had to change weapons if you wanted to kill the minions, spawned all his magics all over the place. only chance to survive was to use as many ancient magic (level 5 wasnt it?) for healing as you could!
the bubbles for me went all over the place when i used Darkstorm. same with that bow that we could get from the City of the Ancients. and no i didnt see Kelsrick bloodied, he was outside the building where the Chief blew up. he was just pissed (have no idea how to get him to be as you said, i saw that video too).
i think i used the weapon from the ruins you mentioned for a good while. at least till i got to the city of the ancients that was my main ranged weapon if i remember right. and that axe needed certain gloves (or hero's stone) to be used, right?
I remember that thing with Belial. One playthrough I killed him in one hit and I wondered what the hell I did. When I battled him I didn't just use Regeneration but also preferred Lich. Basically made you invulnerable for a short time while every blow cast Mists of Doom on your enemy. Pretty sweet. So I did a lot of that and maybe even messed with the Prism's level 5 spell though I'm not really sure what the hell it did.
Yeah the Traitor's Ax, I think it may have even been some armor you had to be wearing in order for it not to kill you when you used it. What's crazy is how there's like no way to know, really. When you first use that ax you might give it a try only to find it nearly kills you. So you wonder maybe you do have to use it in conjunction with another item but that item is a long way off and by then you're moving on to much better weapons. So many items in LoL 2 were very mysterious and you had to figure out by trail and error what they did. One mysterious item I particularly enjoyed though was that cat ring. When in lizard or beast form, if you had this ring on you could melee super fast and you seemed to do much more damage. This was particularly useful around the time you were in the Dracoid cemetary and ruins. Since you didn't have as much control over your curse by this time you could get changed and then be without really good defense. I know totally hated going around the ruins in lizard form. I wish the lizard had just a few more advantages than being a good spellcaster cause I was afraid as it was I'd just get squashed by a Ssar.
There was that Cobra artifact. I later learned exactly what it did (can't remember now) but at the time I was so convinced that its purpose was to keep you afloat on the water for a longer period of time. Maybe I thought this cause the moment you grab it the room its in begins to flood. Also there was that creepy light at the far end of the lake on the way to the Priest's remains that I was so desperate to get to. I always felt there just had to be something special over there. It was all kind of intriguing though and you don't quite slow down in games like that anymore to really investigate strange, seemingly accessible things.
Items in the first LoL were pretty easy to figure out. Most things you could either equip or right click over your portait and they'd do something. Perhaps the trickiest thing to figure out was when you had to combine the Ruby of Truth with the Shard to make the Whole Truth. Ha, look at me capitalize these words like I'm a revering the lore of Lands of Lore.
But like, you had the bezel cup which was nice, the green skull that admittedly was useless after the Larkhon but still cool to have in your inventory, the death wand, the guardian orbs. That was seriously some righteous shit.
i dont think i ever found out what the cat ring did
overall i didnt understand many of the items and i didnt find quite a few either (i never got the ruby of truth from Dawn either, i suck for not clicking her again -saw she did that in Kikoskia's walkthrough).
there were tons of things to discover in the dracoid ruins especially. the place was too big for my taste (loved the tower there). and the wilders jungle was great. did you find Baccata trapped there too?
Heh, yeah I think you inevitably find him cause he's in a tree close the entrance of the Claw Mountains. He's kind of a dick in that game. But at least Luther sticks it to him.
And what the hell was up with that village in the Claw Mountains with those primitive snow monkey things? Didn't that just make you wonder? Seriously, who were those guys? They're all peaceful unless you attack them. I just couldn't figure out why they hell they were in that game.
i think the Axe Blizzard (some item for sure i just cant remember which one exactly) was hidden in that village. Also that hidden cave right there in the mountains where you could go if you jumped on some sort of ice or something (i think there was a speaking stone and a ring or something).
The game is full of questions many of which still remain unanswered. i guess i'll try to take my time with it next time to be able to explore as much as possible.
I think I make another attempt at getting the first LoL to work. I keep trying to think of all these old games I want to play and that one in particular is the only one that will satisfy me right now. Seriously.
after watching the walkthrough once i guess i wont be as... lost as i was when i first played the game. will be way different to play as a caster for once, though
Casting is actually a sure thing in Lands of Lore. Ak'Shell has lots of mana points, but like, even when you can you want to raise your fighter and rogue skills. For example, you're killing Orcs in Opinwood with magic and you get your magic up to 4. At this point, you can't gain anymore experience from killing Orcs with magic. So for the time being you switch to using bows and crossbows to kill your enemies. Even if they're not your favored weapon, the upgrade in rogue skill gives you more magic and health points.
interesting... and rogue levels are quite useful considering how fitting Baccata is for a fighter/mage combo with his 2 weapons and 2 shields and the very very decent magic skills he gets when he starts.
Yeah he's a great team member. I'll equip him with a melee and ranged weapon at the same time. I'm glad you're starting over with Ak'Shell cause I'm about to start it now with the same character.
Think I'll look into doing my own Let's Play videos of it.
do'em and i'll be the first to subscrib!, i like watching experienced players owning some of my favorite games (dont think i'll ever do that tho, not much of a talker).
Playing the second game in english now (for my first time) and i got to say it feels much better! i love dosbox!
anyway, found a youtube video with quite a few speaking stones (not sure if they're all). here goes:
There's a youtube video, was trying to find it just now but couldn't. It shows lots of scenes and moments in the game that are kind of easy to miss. So I watched that and was amazed and how much I had missed. If I find it I'll send it to you. But I'm glad you got the game working good finally.
As far as my own Let's Play videos, it turns out I'm still having trouble figuring out LoL 1. Like I got the game working and can save my games, but if I exit the game I can't seem to go back in without doing all the mounting of the drives again and then the game is like a new game after that cause my saved games are not there. Meeeeeeeeeee!
how easy it is to miss things in the second game... even when dying.
so i was in the dracoid ruins, burning some remains, daylife stuff and i accidentally fell in the river and drowned. instead of the option to load i got a small video. the giant worm of the ruins... ate me. played this games so many times that i cant even remember. first time i see that, though!
Yeah there's tons of things in that game you can find. Did you ever go into that room where Belial fights the worm, but before you're actually there with the statue? The worm like rises from the water and attacks you but then you just kind of appear just outside the room again completley unharmed. It's quite amusing actually.
Also, do you know the trick of attacking the Belial statue in the ruins to level up really fast? I did it once and was like, "Awesoooooome."
i attacked it by accident today and it one shot me.
i found a few ways to gain some extra levels throughout the game. Draracle's Cave was the first place i found, where we blew up the gladstone guard (just before the Draracle). shoot with the crossbow into the flames slightly to the right). you keep getting experience.
also using the bow (that sounds like a lighter when there are no enemies around) on the zombies in the dracoid cemetary. you get up to level 16 quite fast!
done what you said in the room with the worm too. can't remember of anything weird i did by dying (or just clicking around) tho.
Yeah leveling off the zombies works good. I usually just herd them together and use the level 5 spark spell.
The statue though, when he blows the hole in that wall, you need to throw down some stone cubes to get him stuck. Once you've done this you stand at a distance and hit him with different weapons. Photon blade or even just a crossbow. He'll turn around to hit you a few times and you'll nearly die sometimes, but he's so powerful you can just keep attacking him until your level is maxed out. When you're done, destroy the stone cube rocks and let him go on to fight the worm.
interesting, might give it a go in my "evil" playthrough.
for now i'm going to the Huline Temple, full of stuff that i'm not sure i'm going to use!
at least Dawn really really likes me this time
I hate the Huline Temple. It's such a mindjob. And you stop getting experience from killing the spiders so you're not excited about how easily they die. From that point on in the game actually things get a bit convoluted with the puzzles and scenery. That's why I like the caves right before the mother beast. All these magical bright things and then once again you're in a dreary cave and feel extremely threatened.
the bubbles for me went all over the place when i used Darkstorm. same with that bow that we could get from the City of the Ancients. and no i didnt see Kelsrick bloodied, he was outside the building where the Chief blew up. he was just pissed (have no idea how to get him to be as you said, i saw that video too).
