Guild Wars to me is what I always wanted in the Diablo series. It does everything Diablo ever did but it does it better. I used to be a real hardcore D2 gamer since it's release. Shortly after the Release of Guild Wars I decided i'd jumped ship and check it out. I was amazed, it was a true 3D version of Diablo. Every aspect of diablo was in the game and improved in every way possible. To those who have never played it, I highly suggest buying the first chapter. It is everything you'd want in Diablo 3.
The game plays very much the same way Diablo 2 does. It just does a much better job. It can be a Hack N' Slash RPG if playing as a Warrior in PVE or it can be highly strategic gameplay. On top of everything it's a FREE MMO, so quit wasting your money on games demanding more then they deserve! GW's is also fantastic in the fact that they release new chapters every 6 months. Even with the purchase of the Chapters it's less then paying monthly fees, and on top of that your getting tons more content. games like WoW will require the purchase of expansions to stay competitive. All of Guildwars Chapters (or expansions if you want to call them that) are "Standalone" which means you do not need to purchase the previous chapters to play them. Does buying the new chapters increase your odds of being successful in competitive matches? Probably, but not as much as you'd think. The game is probably the most balanced online game i've ever played.
The following rant i'm about to unleash is for those unfortunate souls who know very little to nothing about guildwars. read on to see some comparisons and reasons to jump to Guildwars.
==Reason why you should buy==
*Created by members of the old Diablo 2 team and other blizzard members.
*Character level: Capped at 20. It's this reason both parts of the game PVE and PVP are so well balanced.
*Skills: Only 8 are selectable at any given time. A trip to any town will allow you to change skills. Skills constantly get nerfed and buffed so gameply is always changing and remaining balanced.
*Acts/Areas: Beatifully made Areas. We aren't talking HL2 graphics here but for a MMO they are probably some of the most impressive graphics out there. Due to the level cap I previously mentioned areas stay challenging without the need of playing in different "Modes". All the scenary in Diablo 2 can be found in Guild Wars. Every single Act seems to be reflected somewhere in the GuildWars World.
Act 1 = Ascalon (Pre and Post)
Act 2 = Crystal Desert / Continent of Elona
Act 3 = Kryta / Maguuma Jungle
Act 4 = Fire Islands / FoW
Act 5 = The Shiverpeaks (North and South)
So the very first GW chapter really touches on all the same type of areas D2 did. Each campaign shows promise to give us more unique areas and even better improvements.
*Monsters: No monster is completely immune to a character's particular build. Monsters definitly have there own weaknesses that can betaken advantage of and strengths that can be countered. To do so you need to bring the right skills for the job and knowledge to execute them properly. Bosses are much more rewarding to kill... not due to drops but to Elite Skill captures.
*PVP: There are so many balancing issues that differ from Diablos PVP style I could right a whole article solely on the differences and improvements.
*Attributes: Can be reset! No longer do you need to recreate a certain profession just to change it's build!
*Classes/Professions: Very similar however some are fused together and very much improved. Here's a brief comparison:
Barbarians = Warriors , Dervishes (Melee)
Necromancers = Necromancers!
Paladins = Monks , Paragons
Sorceresses = Elementalists
Amazons = Rangers (bow users)
Assassins = Assassins , Rangers (Trappers)
Druids = Various profession similaritys here, mostly resembles Earth build Elementalists probably.
*Skills: There are no godly skills in this game. Every professions and build can be countered in some way. Speaking of skills, take a look at this skill, That character look familiar?: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Image:Rodgort%27s_Invocation.jpg
*Mercenaries: Comming in Guildwars: Nightfall under the name of Heroes. It's everything you ever wanted in D2 Mercs. Total control and
*Items and Economy: This is where the two games slightly differ. While there are "rare" and "Unique" items in both games Guild Wars Economy is slightly different. With each new chapter getting the highest quality weapons is getting easier and easier. Money is spent mostly on Style instead of usefulness. Whether it be weapons or armor. Farming items can still make you rich, but money like I said is mostly spend on fancy skins instead of godly stat items. No items are really godly in Guild Wars. Guild Wars is not an Item Based game, instead it is a Skill Based Game. Which is truly, a better gaming experience.
*Hacks , Cheats and Exploits: I was once a proud blizzhacker and scammer in the Diablo world. Oh how I loved my D2loader. I remember botting Baal to deaths thousands upon thousands of times. One sorceress had 1702% or higher Magic Find! I remember making peoples inventory shake out on the screen and there mouse cursor go on teh fritz as I ran around collecting there valubles. Ahh, those were the days. Guildwars, has nothing of the sort. Arenanet has a 0 tolerance policy for cheaters and botters are banned on the spot. I find it amazing the Guildwars has been so "Hackfree". The switch from Item based game to Skill based game I belive is a big reason for this. Having tons of money is just not neccassary to be the best, it helps of course but definitly not needed. Exploits really don't exist either. The constant updating of the game put a quick end to any decent exploit. While i loved hacking D2 I truly prefer this cleaner exconomy over the old corrupted D2 economy.
*Replay Factor: Beating Guild Wars probably takes around the same amount of time as it took for players to get through Diablos Storyline. The replay factor in D2 was to get to level 99 or having the godliest, richest account. Guildwars Differs, the replay value is in earning difficult titles, making your pve characters more versatile with acquiring more skills, the ability to constantly change builds, preparing your character for the next chapter, and to become a more seasoned player. All in all, Diablo 2 is dead... When Guildwars no longer releases new chapters, it will still have way more replay value then Diablo 2 does. There is just so much to do and characters seem to be unlimitily improvable.
*Storyline: Probably the one thing I think is actually better in D2. However Arenanet is working on improving it. I expect some rather large improvements in the storyline come Nightfall.
Bottomline: If you havn't checked out Guildwars yet, what the hell are you waiting for?! http://guildwars.com/
Care to be a little more specific how it bored you? I wrote that longwinded topic about the two games and you pretty much just say "uh, no".
It's hard to belive you've given the game a fair chance since your issue with it is it's boring. Guild Wars has tons more content then D2 ever had, so I don't see how that can be possible.
I got sick of trying to find the right party, and half the time, the team sucked bad, and I had to restart the entire mission/quest. I was also displeased with the storyline - I felt it was just too bland, and I just found it hard to get interested with it.
The only things I liked from the game was the guild cape idea, graphics, and the dyes.
Well, the game is challenging. If you have difficulties with PUG's you always have the option to take henchies, Guildies or friends. With Nightfall youll be able to take 3 controlable heroes with you so you and a friend can have a group of 8 easily.
Storyline does jump around a lot. But let me ask, did you actually beat the game? How far did you get into the story? Chapter 1's story is continued through chapter 3... and chapter 3 from what I hear will have an amazing storyline and pve perspective. They hired a few talented people to come up with ssome awesome stories.
It doesn't sound like you gave it much time, I'd suggest picking up nightfall and giving it a second chance, it's well worth it.
I played it and got to about i know this very judgemental but i got to lvl 10 and kinda just quit playing. I dont now it jist did't pull me to it like D2 lod. Its not its a bad game its just that i never really got into like diablo. I mean if u where like me the first time u play diablo 2 lod on that summer night you didn't go to sleep for ablout 3 days.
word up i stayed up 3 nights in a row with a buddy. we ran the 3 miles to his house got his computer in a box and carried it to my house to play it so we could both play

That's kinda funny cause I felt pulled into Guildwars the way I got pulled into Diablo. It took me a little bit at first to get comfortable with the differences. But once I adjusted there was no stopping me.
never actually played the game because from what i read it was bit more pvp oriented and i dont really like that. For more PvE i started WoW and it just pulled me in there more than any other game after Diablo. I also liked Everquest 2 alot from the Trial i tried but since i had WoW pre-ordered i couldnt pay for 2 MMOs, so i left it be.
guild wars has its similarities as does World of Warcraft and even Baldur's Gate 2 to a lesser extend, but its not the same. close but not the same.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I played Guild Wars when it started to become popular. I don't notice a strong comparison to diablo2. It reminded me more of WoW if anything. I think it's important to implement AOE in mmorpgs. Not the silly AOE where it hardly damages the opponents, but the kind that could actually successfully bring down an opponent/s. The part that drives me nuts about WoW and GWs is the: go to one guy use a list of skills against it - dead, Jump to the next guy using the same list of skills - dead, it was a neverending cycle. You were constantly going from monster to monster spending at least 10-20 seconds on each one. DiabloII had AOE, an addictive quality where you use to be able to warp in a group of 2 dozen cows and slam on the NOVA button listening to the beautiful sound of "MOO" over and over. The pace was alot quicker, which in my opinion I liked. The quest system in both GW and WoW were not rewarding in the least bit, it became quite repetitious and silly after awhile.
I just didn't like it. I didn't like FFXI, WoW, Maplestory, or GWs either so it may just be me. Maybe i'm not as enthusiastic about games as I use to be.
i played it got level 20 with 3 chars ran around to find something else to do then stopped playing it, it gave me a bit of enjoyment but not nearly as much as diablo
Guild Wars was a good game. I played it straight for about a year and a half. But then it just kind of fell apart due to Factions, which a bunch of friends and I thought sort of ruined the game. It took out the fun in it it seemed, I don't remember our exact reasoning.
And GW is NOTHING like D2. It's all auto swing based. It's nothing like the mouse destroyer the Diablo games are. Thats gameplay wise. There are some pretty nice looking areas in GW, but you can't really compared it with Diablo much because the stories are fairly different. If I was new to both games, I probably would have enjoyed D1 and D2 much more then GW. GW is a little slower paced and less action packed then the Diablo games.
Yeah the level cap is annoying, I play RPG's to kick some giant dragon's ass and be like level 325909875 with like 24385679358 hp, doing 394759837 damage. It just makes me feel all.. epic inside.
I beated both Faction and Prophecy btw. Faction I beat with a Ranger and an Assassin. Prophecy I beat with a Warrior.
Here's my reason: Stand around typing LFG for about half hour = boring. I then just pick henchies and heroes and go....then when loot happen, nothing good drop (apparently the npc keep them al, but won't use it on themselves, wtf?!)
