Does anyone else have one of these? I've been using one for the past three days and I'm totally addicted to it. And yes, I'm actually using as my primary form of exercise lately. So far I've only really been doing the aerobic and balance training. My favorites balance game is the one where the soccer balls fly at you and you have to hit them with your head while avoiding the panda heads and soccer cleats. I'm awesome at this one.
I'm not very good at the hoola hoops though. I suspect this may be because I'm a guy and I can't as seamlessly move my hips around like a curvy woman might. The 2 step is fun too. It's like Dance Revolution only less obnoxious.
I also never thought I could tolerate running in place, but I have been with the Wii Fit. It's nice having the distraction of the game to do my exercise in. Normally I prefer to hike outdoors but it's so snowy here I probably won't be able to start that for another three months. And I also don't care much for gyms.
Anyway, the Wii is not actually mine but I'm actually considering buying one in the near future along with the Fit. So far the maximum amount of time I've spent on one at at time was about an hour and 15 minutes, but that's just because I had other places to be. I could've seriously kept playing it for hours though.
You start with several different possible exercises in strength training, yoga, aerobics and balance training. As you get better at different ones or log in so many minutes, you can unlock new games to play. I've been finding myself pretty occupied with the games that you start with. My girlfriend bought a couple other games for it, but I've just been playing this one. It's hella fun though. I'm so freaking awesome at the soccer ball headbutt one.
being in the sales business, what i know so far is that Wii has more sales (on a worldwide scale) than both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. For the exact same reason you said is its weakness: it doesnt target "just" the hardcore gamers (there are few games there for those) but widely on families and groups of friends. In this Wii is really awesome. Count in all the wives that love doing yoga on Wii and the ages over 30 that also seem to like it (sold many Wii's to people over 30 - and according to people from the company that imports the stuff to Greece, our store is the best one in selling Wii in Greece so far).
In general, the more interactive gameplay of Wii is winning against the other consoles, even without having advanced graphics.
The next Nintendo console will do it much better in this too, i think.
Now more on the point, my father has Wii Fit and i tried it there. Its really good and i'm thinking about getting one of those myself since i kinda need some workout and lack the time (and money, and will :P) to go to a gym.
I really don't like the Wii, aside from a handful of games. It seems very gimmicky to me and most of the games lack the story or game play to keep me hooked for more than half an hour if even that.
It's fun, don't get me wrong, but it's fun like an arcade game is fun.
The Wii boxing game is kind of tiring head to head though if you have a good opponent.
I'm not sure I even know what hardcore gamers means anymore versus a casual gamer. I could be considered either I suppose. I don't play video games every day, but when I do, I tend to play them rather seriously and engross myself in them. But games with games like the Wii Fit, the only Wii game I've played, is a game I do not take that seriously, but I have serious fun when playing it.
I certainly won't claim to know much about business, but what Fingolfin said makes sense to me. My girlfriend who bought the Wii and the Wii Fit has a large distaste for video games. But the Wii managed to appeal to her despite that anyway and now she loves it cause it's a good way for her to exercise, her being so busy, and she likes how it keeps track of your body's weight and BMI. And I suspect there are a lot of people like her that may get the Wii for similar reasons.
I don't own a Wii, but have my own 360. And I always thought it was kind of funny when Xbox Live did their latest update with all the aesthetic changes and it was as if they tried to make everything look more cutesy, the way the Wii presents things. Like, now I'm creating some cartoonish avatar that really has no purpose at all but it supposedly is appealing on some level? To whom? I really felt like that new avatar creation thing they did was in an effort to respond to the Wii's audience.
Ive seen other people even hardcore gamer buddies get into wii fit....im tempted to get a wii just for that....but other then that i see no other reason to get one....well zelda metroid and mario kick ass and all but thats not many great games when compared to ps3/360
the games i enjoy most on Wii are those with swords.
Zelda being the reason i bought it and Star Wars: Force Unleashed being my absolute favorite because of the amazing feeling the game gave me while playing it. That bloody controller felt like a lightsaber and the nunchuck (off-hand controller) was perfect to use the force (especially force push and force grip were awesome to use). Main issue with Wii is that if you're tired, you're not gonna play. I own both a Wii and an Xbox 360 and i know that when i'm not tired i'll go for Wii but when i just wanna sit down and enjoy some good graphics i'll stick with the Xbox. If i'm not on the PC that is
there's no co-op, since there's only one major hero (The Apprentice). But it does have a duel mode that is really funny aswell (if you ignore the overpowered lightning than can easily kill the other if you use the force power-up).
i dont think there's a versus mode on the Xbox 360 version of Force Unleashed either.
It would be interesting to do a study on losing weight with the wii fit... i know people have been losing weight but i havent really found any real studies... such as body fat b4 and after.

For some people though, they are not motivated enough to go take a walk around the block. Others find different motivations in different things. For some, it may take place in the form of the game.
I'm not saying it's this definitive weight loss machine. I'm just saying it can make indoor exercise pretty fun.
It really shouldn't be seen as a lose weight program, just an hour run/walk (rofl) around the block probably makes you "lose" an equal amount of weight then spending that hour on the Wii.
I agree....but in the winter its a good substitute
When you live/work on the Arctic plains and Northern Alberta going outside is not an option when it hits -40 or colder... Indoor entertainment and exercise is a must. The direction the Wii has taken is definitely a good one.
I tried the Shawn white snowboarding game for Wii, I thought it pretty decent.... but I just cant see myself getting a decent workout/exercise with the Wii fit, and from the looks of it I wouldn't escape the ridicule for co workers.. ever. I think I'll pass on that one...! Some of the other Wii games are amazing tho...
When I go up North we have access to a free indoor gym and pool, aside from the beautiful women that flock there daily, the equipment is something I could not do without... If I had to stay inside and play Wii Fit for my only means of exercise I wouldn't last very long.:P
You don't need tools to stay fit or exercise, let alone going to the gym. I'm sorry but, wtf is up with that? People paying money to go into a big room with other people to pull and push some stuff, doesn't make any sense to me.
The gym offers so much more than what you just described.. one main thing is the women.:D
Aside from that, many gyms cost only a couple dollars per month... the value is simply outstanding in many of them.

I think pure anger motivates me better, punching and kicking a bag or something.
Explain how discussing the gym does not pertain to exercise discussion>?? lol... I just want to make sure people know their options, and that the gym is a very friendly one.
-and yes A pillow, a water bottle, the ground, something you can hang on... are all indeed tools.
I dont know im just for all things entreprenurial... it would be interesting to see how it pans out... the big thing at a gym is people lose interest... I used to be a salesperson at 24 hour, and people would sign up go for a month and just stop going... when they signed up for personal training they were the ones that actually keept going. Cuz belive it or not personal trainers actually know their stuff... if they are licenced by the NSCA. And there are little things that so many people do at a gym that help them lose out on about 30% of the work out... such as holding on to a bar on a cardio machine if you actually use your arms you can burn about 30% more calories! So im just curious to see if people might be more motivated to keep doing it with the wii fit as long as it is still a viable workout routine.

It is true that the high intensity interval training does burn more fat... this is the method body builders lose fat cuz they dont want to lose muscle at the same time that they would from doing steady cardio. the thing about it is you do intervals for about 20 mins and at maximum twice a week from what i read.
