May 5, 2008 - Players can now download digital copies of Blizzard games through the company's website. While the new download service does not yet encompass all Blizzard games, Warcraft III, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and StarCraft are now downloadable. A customer representative told IGN to expect more downloadable games in the near future.
Along with a fresh new website redesign, players can now create Blizzard store accounts and be entered into a lottery system for future beta invites.
While digital distribution is nothing new, this is the first time fans can download and play their favorite Blizzard games without a disc.
I noticed this today... cool move, not that I can think of using it anyway.
Eventually they will put D2 available for download too, I guess.
15$ for SC+BW is a nice buy, but 40$ for WC3 battle chest and Diablo 2 battle chest isn't nearly as good of course, but I guess they are newer games they plan to continue to milk more (although D2 is pretty old).
I am suprized they still send the strategy guides with the games, and that they ship them. A digital option would be so much more preferrable for many people, and would earn blizzard so much more income due to packing/manufacturing costs. It's also more enviromentally friendly.
Correction: They do have digital versions as well, just not for D2, since they havne't implemented it.
You can buy the D2 battle chest at local stores for like $20 or $30 dollars max.
I've boughten like 4 of them, since I've lost others, and I know other people who did the same. Just think how much money they made off that type of stuff. =O
