Hmph... my Heretic doesn't look as good as before, or running as good as before with better graphics. I got v1.06... is that the latest? And is there any texture packs or anything of the sort?
That's because the demo probably had OpenGL or another driver on and a higher resolution. Heretic II has no improvements, it's not openSource yet.
To Zubin - there are a lot of them, 5-7, I don't remember. Anyway, you have to close all the books but one until you can go on.

Google a walkthrough, might help.
When it comes to Heretic/heXen series, walkthroughs are not of this realm. The games are complicated for a reason...
If you go to Video Options, you may see the part where you can adjust resolution, and above it, the place where you can adjust the driver. The safe driver is "Hardware", because it's not even a driver. OpenGL crashes on me if I try to save or load a game that is not autosave. The other drivers are for non-existent for today's video cards...
heXen and Heretic have tons of walktroughs. In fact, I was so bored with Portal of Praevus that I used a walktrough, and I gotta tell you, they are confusing because the game is not very linear.
dude jheretic.wad is already in the jHeretic folder and there is no file called Heretic.wad only jHeretic and its already there. i tried running it and it said no IWAD specified. i assume thats what ur trying to have me do but i still am lost. im sorry i didnt follow ur instructions but im just retarded at this stuff, sorry.
dude jheretic.wad is already in the jHeretic folder
DID I SAY jHeretic.wad? Did I? Did I? DID I??!?!?!?! I said:
HERETIC.WAD
It should be in the C:\HERETIC\ folder and if it's not there that means you deleted it somehow and that means you have to download Heretic all over again and unpack it again and find taht HERETIC.WAD and copy it to that Doomsday/data/jheretic folder!
And jHeretic.wad is SUPPOSED to be there, ad it is supposed to stay there but your game isnt going to run without HERETIC.WAD also because the game doesn't know what the heck is it supposed to run if you don't have HERETIC.WAD in there.
FORGET ABOUT jHeretic.wad. Forget about it. It's there and let it stay there and don't touch it don't move it.
Wow... apparently, you have a highly old computer...
Try this:
Remember you set the DosBox shortcut to run fullscreen by adding "-fullscreen" in a shortcut in a field called "Target" after the last quotation mark?
Well, now, make a shortcut of jHeretic.exe, and in that Target field, add "-allowsoftware" after the last quotation mark.
If it doesn't work after that, it may be some problem with old computers, I'm not sure. What is your video card?
its old cause my newer cpu i just got prolly about 2 months ago got fried in a tstorm cause i was stupid and forgot to unplug it, although they are fixing it for free and it should be back in a couple days.
yeah i made a shorcut for jheretic on my desktop wnet into properties of the shorcut. Then under the "shorcut tab" there was a target thing like u were talking about and it said:
C:\DoomsDay\jHeretic.exe
and i tried both these neither worked:
C:\DoomsDay\jHeretic.exe"-allowsoftware"
C:\DoomsDay\jHeretic.exe-allowsoftware
neither of those worked i got an error saying the path was incorrect i assume b/c there is nothing called that where im saying it is there.
ok it worked and wow all that for those graphics? the origonal graphics own that imo. and for some reason it runs VERY SLOW AND CHOPPY i tried the first lvl and died within seconds cause of major lag.
But thank you alot i learned alot during this and it was fun.
Well, if you really don't have OpenGL the graphics may remain bad, I have no idea. If you don't have a renderer that's really, really bad. And if it slows down you need a new computer. Doomday is not for old computers, it takes a lot of power.
Ask chaosdragon, he's happy with his graphics.
And I refuse to help you with anything if you come to me with statements like: "wow all that for those graphics? the origonal graphics own that imo" If you have a crappy old computer that's not my problem.
i didnt mean anything against u appreciate all uve helped me with i was just thinking it would do alot more then i imagined for all i know its this cpu like ur saying.
the graphics, and tell me if this is what it is like on urs, are like for a wall, no texture for the wall its just like a brown sheet for a wall with no texture at all, it doesnt look pixilated like in the older one but the older version had like kool engravings on the wall, does that sound like what its supposed to look like?
no matter what, like i said, nothing against u at all, i really do appreciate what uve did
First of all, you don't go play the game before you configure it. It probably uses DirectX8 and low resolution so it smudges everything.
When the game loads, go to the menu, pick Options, go to Control Panel, and in the resolution area, choose a higher resolution. I really don't know what your resolution is so be careful not to make it too high. 800x600 is for old monitors, usually. Then see if the game looks any better. You have to max resolution out to make it look proper.
ok that helped alot graphics wise now the only thing is its so laggy its unplayable i. like i press the arrow key and im halfway across the lvl, it renders it to slow or something. Other then that im fine. This Cpu isnt to bad it has pentium 4, 1.5 ghz with 512 ram and a Nvidia Geforce 2 Graphics Card i run Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 Lod and a few other games on it and they work just fine. So it must be that OpenGL thing u were talkin about how do i make that work?
I gotta go for a bit ill respond when i get on later, thanks alot.
hey man I have the same problem. just sit and wait, the lag usually goes away in 2secs - 2mins for me, it starts when I start a level. I dunno if yours will stop but it's worth a try.

Every game that has been popular at a point has a walkthrough most likely.
Oh, btw, make sure your hamachi is always on when you're on the computer

atm the doomsday.exe is in doomsday folder within the bin folder
unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep
Copy HERETIC.WAD to the folder Doomsday/Data/jHeretic/
Is that the root folder? NO! That's the fucking jHeretic FOLDER. The root folder is Doomsday/
And THEN after you copied that file, go to root folder (which is Doomsday/), and run a file jHeretic.exe to run the damn game.
And leave Doomsday.exe alone, when did I told you to touch that, WHEN? QUOTE ME??!??!?!??!?!?!?

drOpenGL.Init. OpenGL driver not accelerated! Use the -allowsoftware option to bypass this.
Ok tell me how to get that option activated and i think im good.

unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep
C:\DoomsDay\jHeretic.exe -allowsoftware
You don't need quotation marks (some different kind of shortcut), and you need a space between ...jHeretic.exe and -allowsoftware
Just copy and paste that line I gave you.
But thank you alot i learned alot during this and it was fun.
