It kinds of goes away from using the staff eventually so the combos don't matter. Especially if you play on Armageddon, using the staff is pretty suicidal.
ok sadly i cant figure out how to get the crossbow on lvl one of heretic... ne help? i found the first portal thing took me to this huge open room with a current of watter that pulls u where u fight these 2 big boss guys. theres another portal but it just takes u to like the first room.
Sorry for double post the edit wouldnt allow me to type as much as i wanted..
neways, i tried the phrases in DOSBox u told me to type they didnt work. I put the heretic folder in prgram files under c drive. then i tried typing "mount c c:\and then the directory where it was like program files\heretic or w/e it was"
so i dont know what to type to mount it it says doesnt exist. the game works fine without sound its just i want sound.
Didn't I tell you to put it into C:\? It doesn't like spaces.
I'll go install DosBox and see what is wrong with my definition.
EDIT: yes, your problem is the space in "Program Files". You have to put it into C:\Heretic.
Speaking of the crossbow, it's pretty plain, just have a closer look around. It's on the left of the passage where the portal was.
Well, did you put the whole Heretic folder at the destination of C:\Heretic?
It need heretic.exe to actually be there, it's not going to jump to program files to find your heretic.exe.
o ok so put the folder elsewhere and just put the heretic.exe in the c:\?
cause atm i got c:\HERETIC ( the HERETIC is the whole folder which has many files and also has the .exe in there.)
wow i dont really feel like typing the huge paragraph it came up with like a list of files on the left or i think they are files and a whole bunch of numbers on the right
I didn't ask you to type up, just tell me what it displays. Well, it seems correct. I don't understand what are we doing wrong. I have dosbox right here and it works perfectly...
I have a C:\HERETIC folder which contains Heretic.exe, heretic.wad, heretic.cfg, setup.exe, and a ton of other files. 17 files in all. This Heretic was directly downloaded from the french site...
My dosbox is 0.72 and so I run it...
I get a console window. It says "Z:\>"
I type:
mount c c:\heretic
It tells me: "Drive C is mounted as local directory c:\heretic\"
I type:
c:
It changes to "C:\>" instead of "Z:\>"
I type:
heretic.exe
The game runs.
In fact, I typed just "heretic", it runs that way, too.
Is there anything, anything different in the way you do it and the way the program replies? Maybe some extra backslash...
What i was thinking was put the actual file itself the HERETIC file in the c:\ and put the folder sumwhere else so when i type "mount c c:\heretic" it will aplly it straight to that file, i think thats what we are trying to do. Atm its still just the HERETIC folder in my c:\ drive, so i imagine its applying to the whole folder which is making it now work.
The mount command mounts a FOLDER to dosbox. And it is supposed to mount a FOLDER. And, you need Heretic.wad to run the game. So if you just leave Heretic.exe... let me try. It says "No files found".
The C: command changes the selected drive to C. The "heretic.exe" command runs a file with that name. Plain and simple. I have no idea why it doesn't work. Are you running windows XP?
ok well i got it to change to "C:\>" instead of "Z:\>"
but when i try to type "heretic" or "heretic.exe" it just says " illegal command: heretic" i tried the game with no sound and it works great.
yes i am a noob haha,
ok so i left the folder and i got the thing to change from Z to C like i said b4 but when i try typing heretic or heretic.exe it says illegal command: heretic
MY FOLDER HAS 18 FILES IN IT NOT 17, IS THAT A PROBLEM?

Well, even if you did have an extra file in there, it should be alright. Did you save more than once in the game? It may have just created one save file.
Try this:
1 mount c c:\heretic
2 c:
3 setup
Then, if you see a bluish DOS-style window, scroll down to "Save parameters and launch Heretic " and press Enter.
If setup doesn't work, there is something wrong with your directory. Neither Setup.exe or Heretic.exe are in the C:\Heretic directory. Or, the directory name is different from C:\Heretic
ok well i can tell u that i have the HERETIC folder which has all the neccesary files to run the game under c:\ and when i double click the folder the directory is c:\HERETIC. The game runs fine without sound, ur prolly tired of hearing that lol. And every prompt works fine until i type the last one.

Is there a file in your folder named "HERETIC.EXE" and is that file in the directory C:\HERETIC?
Does that file have an icon of a white box?
Is there a file in your folder named "SETUP.EXE" and is that file in the directory C:\HERETIC?

i typed mount c c:\heretic enter then
i typed c: enter then
heretic.exe
and once i typed heretic.exe it was like illegal command.. man i feel stupid lol.

Strange. you know what, type :
1. mount c c:\heretic
2. c:
3. dir
And tell me what it says. It should give you a list of files, and you should see files like HERETIC EXE and HERETIC WAD.
unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep

Another thing i unzipped it does that effect it??

Try typing Heretic instead of Heretic.exe
The game works but you can't apply sound without dosbox
Try this:
1 mount c c:\heretic
2 c:
3 setup
Then, if you see a bluish DOS-style window, scroll down to "Save parameters and launch Heretic " and press Enter.
Yes im a noob sorry.
like when i try to play the game with sound it skips real bad, i can play it great without sound.
unzip, strip, touch, finger, grep, mount, fsck, more, yes, fsck, fsck, fsck, umount, sleep
The sound skipping is only curable by dosbox.

This is the way it all looks for me:
http://img488.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitledmd3.jpg
I have the folder on the right, dosbox on the left...
If I don't solve this I won't sleep today.
P.S.: I don't care how it runs wihtout dosbox, there are 10000 reasons why it can run anyway.
