Pretty good. And, yeah, those burst effects can be a pain to get them the way you want them; at least that's how I've found it to be in Paint Shop Pro.
I've never had the chance to try out Photoshop.
I like that Celestial Grove one you had in your sig the other day, too.
I know- it's so vastly immense and complex, and yet silent, though the brilliant colors and lights would have you think otherwise. Truly breath-taking. Someday, I want to go... Very badly.
Damn. You use Paint.net? How can you get it to that with something like Paint.net? I have Paint.net but never was able to do anything more then a house equal to MSPaint...
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
@ Link: You have to get some plugins from their forums- I used a 3d object rendering plugin. I still had to do all of the textures on my own, though, using layers and stuff, as well as the stars and gaseous clouds, but there's neat techniques to get all of those done
@John and Phrozen: Yeah, those were my major problems with it, but I got tired of trying to adjust it and flatted the layers. Now I wish I would have spent a little more time on it : /

I didn't really even think of plugins. I'll have to look into that. (I can't say I have used a plugin for any art programs...)
Since I don't have a true 3d-rendering program, something to that effect would be completely impossible. Only the cylindrical base of the candle was rendered in 3d, and the rest had to be cut and edited in layers.
I wanted the flame and the book to both be the central components of the picture.
This was also my first render that wasn't spherical in nature (sphere's are much easier to work with than other types of 3d objects, in my opinion.)
I used a picture of myself when I was at a leadership retreat by the beach. It was really cold, though, and my foot was still broken (I had just gotten off crutches...)
Yeah, I was kind of bored, so I made this, and I'm kind of proud of it, except that the main star didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. Oh well.

But just some constructive criticism, I would suggest to make the star's rays more uneven and to make it not as bright.

You have to admit that he's good.

Except for the words (they're from the Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien <3), this is completely original.

To perfect that, the candle should be at the side and the book shouldn't be facing you directly.
What type of atmosphere were you aiming for when you made that.

Anyway, here's a crappy try at an ocean:
