Equinox needs to open here eyes and see what life is like outside of the US.................
And I'm not talking about the UK or Canada..........
She won't. She will never cease to be a morbid bitch until the day she dies. And even then, she'll be a wretch. The only thing to do with people like her is to throw her on an island with the rest of her kind and let themselves die off. Of course they won't have any kids because kids bring happiness. Happiness brings an end to their gloom and doom, and for them that's a bad thing.

There is no doubt that these people are heroic. But whats more patriotic is going against the status quo and actually standing up to those who initiated this war in the first place. Many people (mostly republicans) have twisted and defaced the word patriotism by claiming its going to fight for your country regardless if you think the war is right or not.
Remember what I said. I believe these people are heoric. Dont be all yelling at me. nah mean?
im not going to yell at you but what equinox said was plain wrong and was selfish. agree?

I can see where Equinox was trying to go with her argument. I mean, it technically is a job, but it requires much much more than just that. I mean a military job isnt even comparable to that of "regular" job here. I just have a problem with the whole military system.
My dad is in the Army. He was also in the Gulf War. He was eligible for retirement but decided to stay in the Army. He was told that he would not have to go to Iraq. Then, out of the blue, they wanted him to go to a 6th month training session and then go to Iraq. My dad did not believe the war in iraq should have been initiated. Therefore, he chose to retire. Most patriotic thing ive seen in quite a while.

How is it patriotic to stand up to the status quo? Patriotism is about having pride and love for your country, not about being a rebel. This country was founded by rebellion, but that doesn't have much to do with this.
The men and women that fight for our country are indeed heroes. Do we all (but for Equinox) agree that they are heroes?

Yeah. Heros. What I mean is the war isn't worth a single american life. How can you stand up for your country if there is nothing to stand up for? What are we standing up for in the Iraq war? We are there right now so that Iraq can have a democracy. That is not worth an american life, it is not worth 12 billion dollars a month on military costs that should be spent here in America, and it is not worth the reputation we have furthered with this war from other countries.
With that said this war has gone on for almost five years, longer than world war 2. It is simply wrong. It simply does not make sense. It was a mistake. President Bush doesnt want to admit that he made a mistake, but sometimes you just have to admit you made a mistake.
Thats why I think it is more patriotic to stand up to the status quo if it goes against with what you believe.
With that said heres why I think the military procedures are wrong.
First, you go into the military under false pretences. The military recruiters make it seem more like a camp than what it really is. They shove all of this money in your face and claim that they will pay for your college. Yeah they'll pay for your college, but you might have to deal with post traumatic stress disorder for the rest of your life, or go through college without a limb.
Secondly, they tell you that they will teach you "structure" and "discipline" and that you are going to become a man. If anything it teaches you everything that is the opposite of individualism and integrity. It teaches you how to not stand up for yourself. Someone is going to tell you what to do every second of your life while your a member of the military and any disagreement will result in harsh punishment.
And lastly, you have a choice when a country goes to war. You can stand up for your country or you can go to to jail. Those are your options.
Is is patriotic to go to jail instead of fighting for your country? under certain cicumstances I think so.
Soldier is a job. Just like any other. No need to raise soldiers, who protect their country, above doctors who save peoples' lives, or over teachers who raise the next generation, or over scientists who invent the very weapons those soldiers use, or over policemen who patrol the roads, or over firemen who put down fires and risk their lives to save people, or over the regular low-income builders who founded that building you right now sit in typing all this up.
"You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love’s perfume."
You go to war and still have a girlfriend? What kind of a jackass has a girlfriend if he can die tomorrow?
Yeh your right, but without soldiers, the rest of those people wouldnt have a chance in hell of doing their jobs.
Oh and that last bit you said...your an insensitive fuck. You know that? Someone needs to give you a good hard kick in the testicles.
but there is also no vagina so i guess you just kick some bare skin...

If you respect the Soliders, you will respect Eqionox's opinion, as the Soliders are here to defend the Constitution and her right to voice her opinion in this land. By acting like this you are essentially spitting on the Soliders of today and of yesterday. That in my book defines a sick fuck. Hope you're proud.
Both of my grandfathers served in WWII, my father served in Vietnam, and my ex-brother-in-law served in Iraq. While I do not agree with the war in Iraq and feel it's completely retarded that we are over there, I plan on enlisting and doing what I can. Not for the war, but for the Soliders. If I can help to bring home at least one Solider from this senseless war, I will have done more then any politician in Washington has done.

Whoa, that was a really irrelevant sentence. Are you trying to say by degrading her opinion, we're ultimately disputing her right to free speech, thus rejecting all of the hardship and effort soldiers have put into the country for freedom of speech to exist? If so.... whoa... It's the butterfly effect almost.
We disagree with her opinion and judge her as a human being. Not her right to voice the opinion.

It's not that you can't dissagree, thats a right we all have. But what I read of (just about) everyone's response to Equinox's post was less dissagreeing and more attacking.

Thats fine, because her post was no disagreeing, and ALL attacking. Stop defending her.

Insensitive doesn't accurately describe it. And yes, she needs to be slapped hard or something, perhaps even your kick to the balls.
