It allows for more funny looking ships rather then all the boxed ones, and it doesn't have to be shiny... but again, the style is most important, if the game needs boxy ships, it should have boxy ships. All worlds are different, and so are the ships.
What I never got was why no one really ever designs their ships to be black. Especially the small fighters. Every bit of camoflauge is important, even if you're still mainly using a targeting computer.
And I remember in Banner of the Stars where the United Mankind had those mines that would hide in the wreckage of the ships that had been destroyed until another ship came near enough. Then they would activate and seek out the new target.
As for those asteroid ships, they'd only really be useful inside of asteroid fields. I never really watched Babylon 5, but that ships looks really cool too. I just wonder why it has all those tentacle looking things attached to it.

Well, it was precisely those types of locations they had the asteroid fighters waiting.
Yeah, those mines were a great idea. They were the new secret weapon of the United Mankind and took quite the toll on the other ships. What I love about Crest of the Stars battlescenes is how a lot of it is viewed from the tactical maps. I'd love to find footage of those battlescenes, but it's impossible without it being a goddamn AMV.
Wasn't the name of the first ship destroyed called the Basroil? Or Gamroil? The one that started the war?
I never watched Babylon 5. I don't know what they were really. I just remember that show having those black ships.
And yeah, I haven't seen too many organic ships. Although there was an arc in Star Trek Voyager where there were these organic ships that the Borg were having trouble assimilating.
I didn't follow Voyager as closely, but yeah I think they were like equal matches to the Borg but all organic instead of cybernetic. I remember the battlescenes with their ships were pretty dang cool.
I've noticed your latest gamer tag avatar is the Aureal. We Mazken do not like your kind.
I've always liked Golden Saints, they made worthy oponents in Morrowind. Did you ever come across anything that mentioned Mazken before this exspansion came out?
This thread has actually been good in giving me some ideas for my story. Though I think there will be more emphasis on ground fighting, ship battles will also take place. I hope to do some interesting things in that area as well.
What other shows had epic space battles? I've been looking for some kind of neat space opera for quite a while now, but nothing has quite compared to Banner of the Stars.
Starcraft cinematics has some pretty amazing scenes. Remember in Brood Wars when the Zerg storm the Xel'Naga temple?
Starship Troopers doesn't really have space battles per say, but the scene with all the dropships in space is pretty cool as the butt plasma is destroying ships all over.
Wrath of Khan at the end is one long drawn out battlescene. I like it though cause it's more cat and mouse inside a nebula.
Lastly, the scene in Futurama where they destroy the Hubble Telescope is quite spectacular.
I don't see why not. It's definately fiction, and in the future. Well, I don't actually know what time it takes place compared to Earth's own timeframe, but it doesn't really matter. To us it's futuristic.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
If I had to choose, organic appeals to me most: http://img104.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stingerck9.png

And speaking of camoflague, Lord Mantis, there were the ships in WC3 that were disguised as asteroids, or meteors.

Babylon 5, I think, had a lot of organic ships. The one that Sianoq brought up is called a shadow, but that is all I know about it.

Not against the Defiant though, that ship would just anihilate anything in it's path I think.
