-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
im a little rusty on Sc Fi movies with battles, if someone would give me a list ill edit the poll. (then delete this post)

My favorite battlescene in a sci-fi movie hands down is the one in First Contact where they engage the Borg cube. This scene is an example of everything that's good about special effects. It shows that good writing and special effects can compliment each other very well. And the way all those ships vector in and pounce ultra hard on that cube, it's so tastefully done. I'll never get tired of this scene. I'm a big Star Trek fan so maybe I'm a little bias, but I've always preferred large vessel battles over one-man ships in a dogfight.
Anyway, I'll let the scene speak for itself. However, it's a lot better when you're watching it on a big tv with a decent sound system. The sound seems a little off, hopefully that's just my computer lagging. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWM3czzhZBY
Well, that clip Siaynoq showed was a tad unfair. In the actual movie that battle is pretty dang huge, that was just the beginning of the end for that one.
My favorite quote from that one was when Worf says, "Perhaps today IS a good day to die... Prepare for ramming speed!"
Indeed. I can't imagine how they directed that scene. There's an insane amount of things going on. It's also interesting how many different models of ships they use, incuding the Miranda class and several Galaxy class ships. It is kind of rare to see huge fleet actions like that in Star Trek. But that's also what was so fun about DS9 is there was a lot of that.
There's another one I'm gonna search for where the Klingons attack DS9. That one is also rather excellent.

To Sianog.
It's too short. I don't know. It just doesn't look like a battle. They destroyed that poor cube as quickly as Lexx would do it.
Well, if that is a battle, I can extend to the definition of "battle" and find some in other movies.:D
Eguinox, you gotta keep in mind that by the time the Enterprise gets there in that scene, the battle had been raging for some time. And throughout history of many naval and land battles, battles can range from minutes to days, depending on the layout of the situation. But they are still battles nonetheless.
Well, I never watched Star Trek and I have no idea what is going on at all. I just look at it as it is. But, yeah, I guess it's a battle... I like it, OK? No need to go zeally on it, it's not like Star Trek is the most hated show in the history of television.
Nobody on youtube put any proper lexx videos up... considering they uploaded the whole entire movie on youtube, I guess they thought that was more than enough. Where is my 1st-Canadian version with the echo...? yo-way-yo sounds no good without the echo... Anyone knows how to steal sound from youtube?
Uh, I'm not being zealous, I'm doing what people do on forums: articulating an argument.
Anyway, I highly recommend seeing First Contact, then. It's one of my all time favorite movies, and if you're not really a Star Trek fan, I can at least say that it's probably the most successful Star Trek movie in the mainstream sense.
Do I look like a mainstream person? Obviously not. So I really don't care about what the crowd thinks. I'm not sure if I would want to watch it from the beginning, though. Depending on what it looked like. I suppose Star Trek is all uploaded on youtube as well? Or did they attack people with copyrights or something?
Phasers are common directed-energy weapons first seen in the original Star Trek and later seen or referenced in all subsequent films and TV spin-offs.
Phasers appear as both personal hand-held weapons and as starship-mounted weapons. Hand-held phasers have a variety of settings, able to "stun," "heat," "disrupt," and "disintegrate." Capable of being used as welding torches or cutting tools, they can be set to "overload," whereby they build up a force-chamber explosion internally; the resulting blast will destroy most natural objects within a 50-yard radius. Hand phasers can also be set to fire in "Wide Beam" mode, to defeat multiple targets at once. The phasers mounted on the USS Enterprise also can fire a stun blast capable of incapacitating groups of people on a planet's surface.[5] Similar to the hand phaser, ship phasers can also be fired to evenly disintegrate a target object such as meteors and asteroids. The hand-held phasers include a larger rifle which has similar settings to the smaller phasers. The rifle is more powerful than the smaller phasers, there have been a number of different types of phaser rifles, most notably the phase compression rifle which has appeared in a number of Voyager episodes and in all the recent films from First Contact to Nemesis. In Nemesis, Picard demonstrated the rifle's mechanical weakness as he used it as a melee weapon when fighting the Remans during the final scenes on board the Reman ship and it promptly snapped in half.
Phasers are the most common weapon found in Star Trek.
The phaser rifles were really starting to look a lot better by DS9. But I like the really small ones they had too that were about the size of a remote key set.
Matrix, that's it. Battlescenes are not my thing.

I still like LEXX's blowing up of planets better, but I guess I'm biased, too... 'll try to find a video, maybe.

This is the only version I could find on YouTube, it's edited with some strange music...

And that battle scene is pretty much the opening for that movie. It's at least worth it to rent the movie though. I'd recomend it.

I have to watch it secretly... my parents hate ST.
