The Diablo series has at soem point had an area based on almost all of the major civilizations from the Dark Age and Medieval age time periods except for Asia. The Japanese and Chinese had very impressive building at this time, some are still standing today.
I know a lot of you are thinking Diablo isn't an Asian game, well I didn't think it was Middle Eastern/Egyptian or South American, then in Diablo II that is exactly what you got. Act II was very Middle Eastern/Egyptian, with it's Sultan (Jehren), Mummies in tombs in the desert and Harems. and Act III with its very Mayan/Aztec/Inca looking Ziggurat, and the clothes Ormus wears.
So is an area somewhere in the Diablo world that looks like a China or Japan in the year 1250 really that farfetched?
The armor, The Silks of the Victor looks strangely like a Samurai's armor. In Diablo 1 you had a Scimitar, that is a weapon found predominently in the Middle East, and in Diablo 2 you had an area that had a Middle Eastern motif. So what's the pattern here? Item/s of a culture/time period in one game, and an area based on that same culture in the next?
Personally I would like to see an area with a very asian look to it. But I am perfectly happy with the areas currently found in the games/world of Sanctuary.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
And just because I am talk about an Asian area I am in no way saying I want to be a Ninja, Samurai, Kensai, (Shaolin) Monk, or any of the other classes characters present in other games, novels, comics that are total Uber characters that destroy all, I'm only talking about the architecture.
Diablo II had A middle Eastern area, but you couldn't be a any of the Indian/Arabian spellcasters we all know about, Vizer for example.
I just think it might be kind of cool to go into a little village with a big castle in the background and fight some demon that has assumed control of it and is terrorising the villages.
And yes I am full aware of the game Throne of Darkness (sometimes called the Asian Diablo)
It is an alright game, but it isn't quite Diablo.
I think Blizzard's artistic department could come up with some pretty impressive buildings and statues, they did a pretty great job, with the Gothc, Arabian, Mayan stuff.

was the aian culture even known at the time of the dark age or medievil age by europe. if so i would say yes. but if not then i say no. people might say"but the building in south america wernt known in the medevil ages" yes but for the jungles of kejistan is probably like the amazon rainforest. so it would make sense that you but buildings from a jungle culture there. question-is there a eviroment that would resemble the asian culture/enviroment?
The Asian cultures weren't particularly well known by the European ones, if at all.
But neither were the Amazonian ones either. But I suppose they really were the only ones in a jungle, yet he classes that come from that area don't really seem to fit. Many of the NPC in Kurast have very dark toned skin and sound unlike those from other areas, yet the necromancer is very white, and speaks with a very bland, "english" accent. He sounds and looks nothing like Alkor Hfratli or Ormus.
There is still a large portion of the map left unexplored. We have the whole Kingdom of Westmarch, but that is probably gonna look like somewhat of a combination between Kehjstani and Khaduran architecture, as you had people from Kehjistan, move there, and I imagine they would bring the talents skils and culture with them.
Plus if you look to the far right, you will see the map actually carrys on, what is seen in the map may infact not be all of the World of Sanctuary, prehaps it is just all of the "known" world of Sanctuary. This would reflect our world in a way, as like I said earlier, China and most of Asia was not hugely known of at the time.
China was well into its emperorcy by the Middle Ages, This is around about the time of the Jin Dynasty (then came the Yuan dynasty, followed by the Ming dynasty in 1368). The Jin Dynasty is about the 20th one.
Japan had established it's Shogunate by the year 1200.
Diablo 1 is set roughly in the equivalent of our year 1250, as seen by the province of Khanduras. It looks very much like 13th century Europe.
And even the Mongol Empire was pretty large by the year 1274. That's only 24 years after diablo 1, somewhat. Our dates don't truely match up with those of the Diablo world, but they are pretty close.
Of course when most people think of the Shogunate, they think of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1867), and when then think of Chinese dynasties it is most likely the Ming the think of. Both China and Japan had dynasties and shogunates as early as the year 800. Heck Vikings hadn't even discovered America yet by this point.
Many of the Asia cultures were isolated from the western world, and flourished very prosperously, China had many technologies the western world and even Persia didn't.

There already is an asian kind of part to Sanctuary
It was mentioned in the Sin War Trilogy breifly. When they went into some random city in Kehjistan (I can never remember the names) they saw people of all different colours that they had never seen before.
It mentions yellow people with slantly eyes from some part of Kehjistan that he had never seen before
Ill try and find the quote (from Scales of the Serpant)
The Hashiri were dressed very similar to the Torajians, save that many wore silver sashes around
their waists, and for the upper castes, nose rings of that very metal. There were other travelers as
well, including a few yellow-skinned merchants from east of Kehjan. With their narrow eyes and
unreadable expressions, they seemed almost feline. The Parthans among his group were especially
fascinated by them, not that the Torajians did not also express interest.

Damn. You make a very good point, Elfen, and combined with Genesis' quote, I'd say that there probably will be some sort of Asian culture in Diablo III.
But, I won't like it. I don't like asian things. Egyptian and South African are borderline, but Asia is definitely a 'no'. I only really like white english European things with the gothic architecture and all.
Asians have this weird thing with Ghosts and evil Spirits
So bringing in Asian culture into Sanctuary brings up new possible classes like Shamans, Monks and Alchemists http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamanism

I like you, prefer Gothic. But Asian stuff is cool too. I want to fight an Oni. Skeletal demon with a horse's head.

The sheer fact that the Silk Road was in exsistance points to the fact that the Asian cultures were rather well known by the European cultures...
Also, if you can do the Samarai rght, that would be a wonderful class to play as... Not the Ninja though, the Assassin is far too similar to the Ninja, unless of course the Ninja were to go almost purely weapon or physical killing... Still very similar though.. I doubt that Blizzard would do that...
I would like to see a Raijū, or a mythical beast made up of fire or lightning. If you remember your pokemon, raichu was the evolution of picachu (Raichu=Raijū)
I thought a oni was kind of like an oger in japanese mythology.
If I recall the Silk Road didnt really take off until the 14th Century, around the time of the Crusades. Diablo is set in the 13th Century.
But your point still stands.

This would be pretty cool actually. If there were something like the Assasin homelands up in the mountains with monestaries and stuff. (Sort of like the Shaolin Monks or something).
The Assassins, actually come from Kehjistan, the jungles in Act III, as do the necromancer and the sorceress. The Paladin comes from Westmarch but his people's original homeland is also the jungle.
The Druids have vast stone monastaries and libaries though.

but still if there is an asian culture and if you look at the map of sanctuary if you kept extending the map the way the land is it wouldnt be all that much. so if there is an asian architecture it wouldnt be very big place to me.
That is unless Westmarch will have asian architecture. But I don't think it would. The same can be said about the Druids and Scosglen I suppose, You have all those Shaolin/tibetan monastaries, they are somewhat emulated by what is said about the druid's buildings or residence.
But you also have the bits of the world not found on the map on the previous page. Can we say with all certainty that an area with an asian-esque look to it, doesn't exist there?

however, if they do make a new area with an asian feel, they will have to make some type of asian class in order to make the location and story fit well, correct?
