Hello. Aside from the items that are guaranteed to roll 5/1 stats I occasionally see some rares(I don't remember but I think I've seen a few legendaries too.) that roll 5/1 for no apparent reason. They're not predefined to do so or anything they just randomly seem to do it. Does anyone have an explanation to this?
You'll have to post a link or a screenshot, otherwise no one here is going to believe you. Rares aren't supposed to spawn with 5+ primary affixes and you're the first person I've seen claiming to have seen otherwise.
Lv 70 rare: Sovereign Dire Axe
+4–6 Random Magic Properties
Lv 70 Leg: Utgar's Roar Primary
+(981–1199)–(1175–1490) Cold Damage Cold skills deal 15–20% more damage.
+4 Random Magic Properties
The "random magic properties" described are not guaranteed to be a primary or secondary stat, unless otherwise listed. With the UR, you get two guaranteed Primary properties and 4 random ones. This means that the other 4 properties could be primary or secondary skills based upon the randomness of the roll. In regards to the rare axe, drop 1 could be 5/1 and drop two could be 2/2. It all ties back to RNG.
@Thornagol: This is not correct, the item will always end up having 4 primary and 2 secondary stats (there are some exceptions, such as Tal Rasha's, which always rolls 5/1). The distribution of primary stats and secondary stats on every legendary item is always fixed.
At least I have never seen an instance where the same item rolled 4/2 in one instance and 5/1 for someone else. Screenshot proof please if someone disagrees ;-)
Wow... I did not expect these replies. Now I'm actually questioning if I really did see 5/1's or if i just deluded myself into thinking I did... But I do believe I have seen several I really didn't think much of it until now... I'm positive I saw a 5/1 SoJ being linked in general less than a month ago. That or I imagined all the 5/1's? I remember seeing about 10 or so... I will screenshot the first extraordinary rare I see.
God I feel like I just woke up in a parallel universe.
Magefist, gift of silaria and pigsticker all roll with 5 primaries. Wizard sources, witch doctor mojos also roll 5 primaries. Legacy items can have 5 or 6 primaries (some people still use legacy soj with flat reduction in skill cost i.e. -5 fury hammer of the ancients)
1st primary is about ~465 int (fixed legendary affix), 2nd primary is 95 allres (fixed legendary affix), 3rd primary is about 160ish to each stat (fixed legendary affix). 4th primary is resource cost reduction (random roll). Secondary rolls are ignore durability loss (fixed), life after kill and extra gold (random rolls). So only one of the three additional rolls turned out to be a primary. The 4 random stats are combined as one roll.
Examples for exceptions to the 4/2 rule are Andariel's Visage (well, one of the primaries is actually a de-buff, so only fair) which is actually 5/2, Magefist (5/1), and Tal Rasha's Relentless Pursuit (5/1). Most wizard sources are actually 5/2 if you so want, but the average damage roll is not listed at the Mystic, so it seems to be out of the equation (even for Chantodo's offhand which is only 4/2, sadly).
