Best solo heros in the game atm are wizard and barb (wizard coming way ahead)... DH is good for solo too but there are situations that DH can't manage but wiz + barb can... WD can solo but it's harder than with other ranged guys
Monk is the 1 that can't really manage later acts (you can with decent gear but you can't really farm the gear yourself)
So:
Ranged: Wizard > Demon Hunter > Witch Doctor
Melee: Barbarian> Mushroom > Monk
Thanks for the reply. What about PVP-wise? Is Barb and Wizard viable to be strong?
Best solo classes for farming (in that order) are:
DH > WD > Wizard > melee
End of story.
As for pvp, we really have no idea, since it's impossible to test... Damage will likely be changed when directed to players, since most classes hit/crit for over the max hp...
Thanks for the reply also - Can you also give reasons for that order?
Just to specify, neither the WD nor the DH are my "main" classes, so my perception may be a bit skewed. I'm basing this off my experience, and playing with other good people.
And about farming - you said that this is not about progress but fastest income in items? Oh right. A4, Last Quest, Tyrael killing Rares in 15 seconds when ur standing there in full 300% mf gear not even taking a hit - u can do it with EVERY class - its safe and one run take about 30seconds.
You must be amazingly unaware that magic find does not affect the drop quality of almost any mob with purple a name. Seigebreaker might not fit this observation - but ive killed over 100 with 315% MF stacked (including purple mobs from act 1 and act 2) and have seen maybe 1 rare. 99% sure this was a hot fix to keep people from getting uber amazing drops off easy mobs like the one you described. Can still get high dps magic items though.
Oh and to throw in my 2 cents - any ranged class - particularly a DH because of the massive dmg they can get with almost no investment, would be the best farming class.
A good player will manually avoid all incoming damage and can kite almost any combination of modifiers. There's a good video somewhere on youtube for monk farming that basically jests you can just sell your monks bracers to afford an entire gear set on any ranged class.... It's not that far off from the truth.

Still i got few 1k+ dps weapons and my friend got alot of yellows from them.
well you kill it enough times you will get some rares sure - but MF doesn't help in that scenario was my point - and infact if you can help dps the mobs by knowing MF is useless and throwing on dps gear you can do the runs faster *wink*
1) He has ~6 sec of immune and you don't need to kill mobs near chest in full MF equip. For example in group chest farming act 3 i take my loot from 1st try in 2-4 sec. While wizards/DHs has great problems when elites are near the chest.
2) I am soloing inferno act 2-3 goblins in 300 MF from gear (w/o NV). In burst zombie-bears spec with 9k DPS it dies without any problems.
For killing elites IMO the best classes are:
DH>Wiz/WD.
U have to gear up melee in expencive def. stats to make it farmer.
I'm actually quite astonished at how effective DHs are at soloing in mediocre gear. My main character is a barb that is almost through Act2 inferno but it's a real slow go as I absolutely need the AH for gear. By comparison I leveled a DH to 60 in about 35hrs, bought him 500K in gear on the AH as a quick start. With that I proceeded to clear Act1 Inferno in mere hours, quickly catching up to my Barb. Now given that the gear on my barb costs 10x that which is on my DH, this new toon has become a very cost effective farming toon.
i have a monk as main and rolled a DH to farm. oh boy, its so inexpensive to gear up comparing to a melee class. get a good 2h with crit in it and you are almost set.
WD is amazing DPS as well, when decently geared, and has a "tanking" option with the bears (depends on what you want to farm of course)
I think someone's already addressed that the WD and the "bear" build is viable for farming goblins, but as for clearing through anything but Act 1 you're in for some serious trouble. Zombie bears has way too short of a range to be viable in Acts 2, 3, and 4.
Witch doctor can progress through acts, but its very slow/painful/frustrating because you're going to die...a lot.
Just wanted to clarify that Zombie bears does not actually tank any mobs after Act I.

H can't manage but wiz + barb can...
Ranged: Wizard > Demon Hunter > Witch Doctor
I guess you're playing a DH and you're really bad at that
In case you're living in a cave in stone age, DH is about 10 times more overpowered than all other classes combined for solo play

I've just finished Barbarian at Level 60. I'm now planning to do next hero after farming my items for the Barb.
I am stuck on which heroes to choose from.. I want an hero that I can mostly solo on and can do well in PVP whenever it comes out.
Which class is it? Please state reasons too so it makes my decision more easier. Thanks for the help guys!
I would love to know how you do that. I have 25k hp/dps and I can't do shit in act 3.

If so, Demon Hunter seem to be my choice after Barb and then probably Wizard or Witch Doctor.
I just came across this thread in the link above. What are your thoughts on this?

My poor WD.
I would say DH - BUT it would also rely completely on your ability to kite and shoot one direction while running the other.
