DPS meter must be like /recount and some text telling your DPS, why cause "if you can't measure it it doesn't exist". The question is not who makes more DPS is who you'd like to play with.
Who makes more DPS does not really affect who I play with, but then again thats just me. I like to play with people who are laid back and funny; people I can enjoy content with not elitists. While DPS does matter to an extent, I don't think it should be the driving point of why you play with who you chose to.
Yes definitely! I hope Blizzard decides to build it into the game. Sure you can see how much damage your weapon does, but I'd like to see a meter that shows actual DPS. It takes some effort to use skills and attack efficiently to maximize damage and I'd like to see some measurement of that.
The reason why a dps meter wont work well with Diablo games is simply because its about survival, if a dps meter would be added into the game then everyone would just compete about who is doing the best dps and be making stupid misstakes or die because your constantly in the heat of battle because you wanna be in the top of the dps.
Diablo is about teamwork and survival, not about dps. It works in WoW because you have one tank taking all the damage and mostly your just standing still doing damage, Diablo doesnt play like that,
I'm all for damage meters in WoW, between it and WoL I can effectively make decisions on exactly how well someone preforms in a fights even if they don't die to standing in crap. Decisions can then be made to try and fix them or dump them from the raid.
Diablo 3, action/ hack n slash rpgs aren't only about the amount of damage one puts out. In fact REAL rpgs aren't even about those. Some players are pivotal to a group and do absolutely no damage or healing, they simply control when monsters enter and exit fights. They control the flow of the fight. How exactly do you measure that? No charts or pie graphs can really be created to display how effective someone is at that role.
Now for the real reason a dps meter is wanted, to identify leechers with greater ease. There is never going to be a good way to identify a good leecher. The bad ones are easy, the good ones are hard to identify, and being able to judge that effectively just comes with time, or you can avoid it all together by playing with friends or just solo. You don't have to play the game with other people, it's just potentially easier to gear up if you do.
Personally, I don't like the idea. DPS meters ruined WoW raiding already in a way, a lot of people just ignore everything else to get the biggest numbers on DPS meters during boss fights. If D3 bosses are made any more complex (as in requiring more than just nuking), DPS meter could make things harder, even lead to wiping. Then again, if the bosses follow D2 formula where you basicly just follow the boss and spam your biggest nuke, it could work.
In D3 you will need to kite monster packs alot, snare/slow/stun etc, which would give you a bad dps, even if your doing something really important.
If the guys your playing with is slacking, you could see if their spamming skills or not, just leave the game or kick them.
But ofc a DPS meter would be good for stuffs like boss fights, you could try out many different skill + rune + gear builds and see what is making the most DPS, which is pretty important for clearing Inferno I guess.
This isn't WoW. Like others have said, you're responsible for your own survival, not several healers standing around in the back of a raid. And honestly, would you want Blizzard to further delay D3 just for a stupid meter? I for one do not.
i dont really know what to think about the dps meter in d3. I don't really think it fits in the style of diablo, and only by looking at the other players gear in d2 - you were able to tell if they were going to be a good match for killing something hard.
dps meter is almost like a speedometer in GTA - its just not right - we dont need to meassure it.
If your partner or you isn't dealing enough damage to get going in inferno, then we all know that it is probably called for to get some better gear in hell.
Diablo 3 is not a competitive game on its PvE side. You may try to compare your dps with your teammate while in the arena but killing monsters is meant to be fun, not race. Thus I believe there should never be a dps meter in the game. My vote will be no for this.
this topic was also discussed in (I think it was) us forum.
I for myself learn a few facts from the discussion.
major pro "DPS meter"-facts:
you will have a perfect overview about your and the groups effectivity
you can optimize your damage output
major con "DPS meter"-facts:
like in WoW other people will rate you because of this DPS meter and, if you won't be near perfect you will probably be kicked out of the group - this results in a bad game experience
many people will have "set in stone" builds, because they KNOW that specific build does more DPS than others and the factor of making different builds will be subverted
If they implements a DPS meter they should only implement it for the character playing and not for the whole groups, because that would result in not having fun in the game, as you will be kicked out of groups, if you don't play at the maximum potential.
Might be a cool addition, but most people probably feel as long as crap is dying and you aren't being killed left and right that your dps doesnt matter as much. I can see why it would pretty important in WOW, but people get too hung up on dmg meters. Diablo wont and shouldnt be like that.
Whenever I hear about dps meter, I see that self called "pros", ppl which think that skill rotation is the "skill of a player" etc, which sorry but is shameful. Knowing Your skills, when to use which, and how is a priority, a must have option which I as a teammember can see clearly in my own eyes, and I will group with ppl I see use the proper skills in proper time and place.
I do not need the dmg meter for this. I truly hope that people will also reject this idea whenever it occurs. You should know your char and skills enough to use em at best efficiency while being blind. In every game also... You will have situations which make You unable to compare dps of 2 ppl in a proper way (include ability to deal damage - kiting, resistances, ways of dealing dmg, as long and often broken casts - cause someone killed target allrdy, and targets nature...etc...)
I also agree with ppl who state that dps meter ruined their experience with other games also.
Take in mind that in diablo mobs are going down way faster, fast enough to see if someone is doing well, to see the diffrence, those arent 20 mins boss fight, and if the rumour is right even... and there are 1h boss fights - whole thrash before that boss should tell me everything.
Another reason this isn't needed is you can already tell if you doing an effective job. Are enemies dying fast enough for you? If yes then you don't need more dps. If no, switch your build and go back. I highly doubt anyone will notice or care if the damage between 2 builds are so close, you need a meter for it.
Please no DPS meter! It doesn't belong in Diablo and I wish it never made it into WoW. I think a more fitting one would just be a "highest damage done " statistic for each class type that you could view but not spam in a chat channel. It would go along with other stats like # of monsters killed/gold looted/deaths, etc.
I would think that it would be irrelevant for the most part. This was a great addition to WoW because you would spend a good amount of time attacking a single monster. In Diablo however, I do not think you will be spending that much time just attacking a monster or even a boss. A lot of movement will be happening even in boss fights that will render a DPS meter irrelevant.
Although, it would be cool to have a DPS meter and some test dummies just to test certain items out or whatnot.
