So, I don't have the beta yet to try anything out myself.... just have my information from watching streams. I have a few questions about how spell damage works.
1. So on the character attributes screen, there is a DPS value in the bottom right corner. Is it this value that is used to determine spell damage? Or is it the actual weapon damage from the character inventory screen?
2. How does +damage factor into this... what I mean is lets say you have a weapon that is 6-10 damage with +4-5 cold damage. Is this cold damage applied like "weapon" damage to your spell? So is the effective spell damage used for calculation 10-15 or is it 6-10 and it leaves out the extra cold damage? What happens if the monster is cold immune, but you are casting a spell that does arcane damage - does it leave out the +cold damage?
3. The wizard has a skill that adds 15% physical damage to a weapon. Does this have an effect on the damage that would be done with a spell (ie you spells do 15% more damage)?
4. I know a faster weapon speed causes you to cast faster, but does the "DPS" of a weapon matter for spells, or is it just the raw weapon damage that matters for spell damage?
5. Why dont they just show per hit damage (like D2). It would make it so much easier to see what is happening with spells. ><
Pretty much I think I just dont get how weapon damage/ weapon DPS/ +damage attributes play into the system.
3. No, it's a physical damage boost not, for example, arcane damage boost.
Its a physical boost, but any increase in your weapon damage is reflected in your spells. So yes, it does make your spells hit harder (and of the same element they would normally).

Thanks in advance.
1. Different spells have special cases, but in general: anything that increases that DPS number will increase spell damage.
2. + damage effects increase the damage range of you weapon, + elemental damage effects also increase the damage of your weapon, and add to spells as their normal type. For example, if you have a +5 frost effect on your weapon, and cast a fire spell, its going to add + 5 x weaponmodifier of fire damage.
3. Yes, +15% physical damage increases your weapons physical damage by 15%. Any amount that is increased effects your spells like any other + damage effect.
4. Attack speed does effect the DPS of most* spells. Noone has gone through and systematically tested each spell, however, so it might only effect certain spells. For example, weapon speed makes you cast Magic missle faster, increasing DPS and magic generation. The lazer beam however, doesn't seem to be effected by weapon speed.
5. It would make sense to just put the % scaling and actual damage in the tool tip, but would add to clutter. Perhaps make a thread on that in the official forums.
