The only creatures I think that could stand equally against the prime evils perhaps would be the Angris Council and Trag'Oul. Im sure Uldyssian if alive could do the same thing. He outsmarted them in the books.

And to know who needs help
You need only just ask
diablo does not want heavne to know of his plans. Or heaven might reopen the case for sanctuary's survival. Hell wants sanctuary to stay alive so they can enslave humanity and then destroy heaven. Having the Angris Council revote to destroy sanctuary and this time they decide to do it well then things go back to square 1 for hell and it's just another eternity locked into battle.
Also Trag'Oul might not want to reveal himself to either side because that changes the ball game a little. Since heaven and hell do not know that Trag'Oul and his kind exsist.

I say the Warlord of Blood, Bartuc, and Kabraxis are both more powerful than the Prime Evils, but they both were defeated by us humans because we found a weak link in their armor so to say.
Also, remember that the most powerful character doesn't necessarily win the fight. It usually is the one who manages to balance power and brains most effectively would win.
Also, There is a picture that I can't find, but it shows Diablo watching a soap opera and a couple of monsters talking about how he is still upset over losing to a level 14 sorceress.

Well, for one, I think being beaten by a human doesn't mean that demons are any less powerful. Lore wise, humans should be more powerful, and it seemed to me that the changes Uldyssian made to the worldstone would increase the power of humans, so it could be that some current humans are stronger than any demon/angel.
I know it's a bit off topic, but I agree with ahddm and hope that D3 ends with the band of heros invading both heaven and hell to get them both to stop dicking with us.
