Definately seems likely, although Uldyssians existence never really seemed possible to sustain. I mean, if one man can oust Diablo in power after only a few measly years of existence, something's not entirely right.

Hardly. He's a human, but nothing more than that. Of course, if he's still alive today he might have gained a lot of power, but the Worldstone would have affected him just as any other human being. Or maybe not. Still, I don't think he can compete with the Three.

Not a chance. He was quite old by the time of the Sin War novels, and definately not strong enough by then. He hasn't gained that power now either.

Same reason as above. Besides, most Nephalem are dead and buried, Diablo is not. That's as much of a hint as anything.

Equal at best. Tyrael is unable to defeat him in D2, at which time Diablo inhibits a regular human body as is still seemingly weak. THough Tyrael could of course have similar restrictions placed upon his own powers.

Say what?
The Great Exile was a joint venture between the Lesser Evils, not by Duriel himself.

I would argue the only one truly outright more powerful then one of the 3 would have been Inarius in Sanctuary connected to the worldstone.
Uldyssian was arguably more powerful, but at the same time was unstable power wise.
I have always viewed the council as a whole equale to the prime evils as a whole. But we truly don't know.
I would reckon all are on an entire different level of power in their own realms as compared to sanctuary.

Apparently You have never played the diablo games. Because ineach instance a mere human kills diablo. At most, a group of them. But we all know that the wanderer came in and killed diablo in the first game. A mere human.
I think Humans have much more potential than you give them credit for in sanctuary.

Which, from a story perspective, makes no sense whatsoever, if we assume Diablo is at the height of his power. Because that would mean that the ruler of Hell is bitch-slapped around by a few weak mortals who definately haven't been iable to hone their skills, powers and abilities over the eons.
Bottom.-line, it doesn't add up. Unless Diablo is weakened in the games, or if it's nothing more than a plot device.
True, we have the aspect of the inherent powers in humans that was unlocked in Uldyssian to its fullest. But the Worldstone is, as far as we know, still in effect during the evens of D1 and D2.

Well that just means on the mortal plain he's super weak and whatnot. So he's probably only at full power when he's in hell in true form.
So we don't actually know how strong he is.But im sure it's pretty strong.

in the first diablo, he took host of king leoric's son; not much power potential there
in the second diablo, he took host of the hero who killed him, but you take a look at how the story is unfolding; the hero who killed him in diablo II is actually a group of mortals, not just one this time. only problem is you cant exactly play more than one person at once during single player now can ya lol
As yadigg said, Diablo possessed Albretch in the first game, so he wasn't very powerful. In d2, he possessed the warrior from d1. In diablo 2, Cain said this:
Regrettably, I could do nothing to prevent the disaster which devastated Tristram. It would appear that our greatest fears have come to pass. Diablo, the Lord of Terror, has once again been set loose upon the world!
As you know, some time ago Diablo was slain beneath Tristram. And when our hero emerged triumphant from the labyrinth beneath town, we held a grand celebration that lasted several days.
Yet, as the weeks passed, our hero became increasingly aloof. He kept his distance from the rest of the townsfolk and seemed to lapse into a dark, brooding depression. I thought that perhaps his ordeal had been so disturbing that he simply could not put it out of his mind.
The hero seemed more tormented every passing day. I remember he awoke many times ? screaming in the night ? always something about ?the East.?
One day, he simply left. And shortly thereafter Tristram was attacked by legions of foul demons. Many were slain, and the demons left me to die in that cursed cage.
I believe now that Tristram?s hero was that Dark Wanderer who passed this way before the Monastery fell. I fear even worse, my friend... I fear that Diablo has taken possession of the hero who sought to slay him. If true, Diablo will become more powerful than ever before.
You must stop him or all will be lost.
If Cain is right, Diablo's power gets bigger if he possesses a strong person. So Diablo from d2 is stronger than Diablo from d1.
Now, this is what I think.
The Worldstone prevented heaven and hell from entering Sanctuary. The worldstone was destroyed, so Diablo doesn't need to possess someone to enter, he can enter under his true form, wich is extremely powerful. But, if he gets killed in his true form, he dies forever.
This means that the warrior and the band of heroes weren't more powerful than the true Diablo.
I would argue the only one truly outright more powerful then one of the 3 would have been Inarius in Sanctuary connected to the worldstone.

agreed on Inarius. it seems that will his Worldstone powerup, he was probably the single most powerful individual we have known aside from Uldyssian, who defeated him.
and i don't think it's fair to say Uldyssian doesn't count just because of his instability. his power was what it was, stable or not.
I say Rathma and Bul-Kathos have the best chance because they are ones that are part angel and part demon they are a mix of both higher powers and definetly stronger and wiser than Diablo.

So have his weapons.
He was in my opinion, the closest in power to Diablo, and probably equal in power to 2 of the Angels on the Angiris Council. But even then, I'm not sure. Remember, in the books, he drew strength from the army with him, including his brother, a very powerful Necromancer, Mendeln.

First off, its Mendeln. Second, he is a Necromancer, presumably the second one ever, with Rathma being the first. The problem with necromancers, is that even if they were more powerful than a Prime Evil, or an Archangel, they are sworn to uphold the Balance. They will never use their full powers unless it is completely necessary, which I doubt we have seen yet.

He is an ancient Nephalem, and as being an Ancient, his power has diminished over time. Think of the quest of The Ancients in DII, a solitary warrior defeated all three of them.

Together I consider them equal to the Prime Evils.
I say the only one entity that is stronger than Diablo or anything in Heaven, Hell, and Sanctuary is Trag'Oul. But like the Necromancers who he has taught, he cannot intefere too much, because he is ultimately responsible for the Balance.

Apples and oranges. We have no idea what kind of power he possesses outside of his domain But he's also a likely candidate.

First on my list would be the Hero, since he/she single-handedly killed each of the Prime Evils and more, as well as took on the entire army of Hell.
The heroes you mean? That's kind of distorts the rating, he's not alone, so we can't judge him (or her) on an equal term with a prime evil.
Second, there's still the issue of full strength at the time of D2. But at this point it's just conjecture whether or not they were at full strength when you beat them.

Oh, I just figured since you could play it in single player mode one hero would be cannon. Guess I'm wrong, though. Forget it.
Well it's been mentioned (last years blizzcon I think?) that a band of heroes killed Diablo. So far we have no idea who they were, but perhaps this weekend will shed some light on it. One can always hope

Touche. But I guess that since there are several other world guardians, they could all be more powerful too. Unless Trag'Oul is only hiding himself because he knows he is not as strong. Lots of new questions to think about now.
Skipped half the thread to add this sorry if it has been said.
Since the worldstone has been destroyed technically there is nothing holding back the Prime Evils and Angels from coming into Sanctuary with their true and full forms rather than possessing humans who defeated them as Diablo has. Uldyssian, seems to be the only human in lore that can match everyone because technically he has become Sanctuary.
Again with that said with the World Stone destroyed humans will have nothing what so ever hold their power back which is explained in a interview on why we will see humans that will have almost godlike powers.
On the same note I don't think Diablo 3 will be Good Guys(Us + Angels) vs Hell but Humans holding back and possibly invading Heaven and Hell themselves.
