Daemaro, mate, why the hell haven't you read the books yet? Not liking books is no excuse.
'Cause yeah, the Triune Cultist must be from the Temple of the Triune, which is located somewhere near where the Witch Doctor is from (southeast of the map).
I'm a bit skeptical of the Three combining into One, which is strange, cause I usually agree with you.. but we'll see.
I just can't do the books, I don't know why. Feels like I'm missing out on life when I just sit and read.
Anyway it could really go either way, it's just something I was thinking in the back of my head since the beginning. I just find it odd they decided to give him more than one head when he's never appeared like that before. I know in the Veiled Prophet though he changed forms to appear like Tyrael to Inarius right? So I guess it's possible.
Yeah, in The Sin War he constantly changes appearance based on the greatest fear of the person her is looking at.
That's Freddy Kreuger or something.
Anyway - the beast at the end of the cinematic seems to be none other than Diablo himself - at least from what Bashiok said when interviewing Jay Willson for the Blizzcast.
Triune is the 3 prime evils church on sanctuary, they created it to gain control over humans to help them destroy the heavens. So a triune cultist is an initiated who knows exactly what the Triune is but willingly serves the prime evils or just one of them.
Read the Sin War for more information on Sanctuary and other lore that may be used in D3(bosses, etc.), they're good books, half way done with the last(3d) one.
EDIT: Probably already said, only looked at 1st page.

Indeed that demon is Diablo. But whether or not it is a combination of him and 2 other demons (Baal and Mephisto OR Azmodan and Belial) remains to be seen.
I can see Blizzard making him a combination of the 3 prime evils- Azmodan and Belial are already potential characters for further development. Since Blizzard said that they plan to close the book on the story so far- it's probable that Azmodan and Belial will come into the spotlight at the end of Diablo III and move on into Diablo IV, etc.
The mention of Blizzard's affinity with giant, disco shoulderpads is also a fair argument that the mouths on the shoulders are just for a more eerie vibe to diablo. Either way he looks amazing- a great redo on the original look.
As far as the Triune goes...they worshiped alter-egos of what Diablo, Baal and Mephisto were- aka Dialon, Bala and Mefis. Daemaro you really need to get your hands on the books- at least The Veiled Prophet if not the other two- seriously a great read in terms of Lore-whoring.

Now it could be related to the Triune, but I always thought all knowledge and even its existence was wiped from the face of Sanctuary after the world was "reset" or whatever you wanna call if after Heaven invaded at the end of the Veiled Prophet.[/spoil]
(Awesome, I got to use those things, even though it doesn't look very good as of now.)
And I don't see where in that news archive the image is confirmed to be Diablo.

On the news article:
Commemorating the exciting announcement of Diablo III, Blizzard Entertainment and Sideshow Collectibles are proud to introduce the Diablo III Premium Statue series with its epic first release. Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2008,"Overthrown" depicts a mighty barbarian atop the conquered Diablo, shouting towards the High Heavens in vicious triumph.
This has been discussed plenty of times before, but looking at Blizz penchant for ridiculously big shoulders I think those "heads" are just in fact part of Diablo's shoulders and they have mouths just to make him look more creepy.
As for the Triurn returning, I think there might be some twist to it. Like instead of worshiping the three prime evils maybe they worship Azmodan and the 7 deadly sins. I'm saying this because of that demon the Thousand Pounder who has the title of Gluttony Incarnate which suppose that we'll probably fight the other ones before finally fighting Azmodan.
Lilith could have escaped and try to remake the army of the nephalam. Just a thought. She did run the Triune after Lucions death even if it wasent for the three after that. I think it would be cool if alot of the Sin War stuff came into d3.

Well.. the Sin war Novels are the only parts of the story revealed in deatil. Technically, the battle that we fought in Tristram, the cities in Diablo II, and the new ones in III are still part of the Sin War. The war never truly ends. (If it did, we'd be out of a game!)
The Sin War itself is waay to big to just have a mention, I think. I believe that the main reason that the "Sin War" itself wasnt ever mentioned outside of references to the war is because the actually "battle" part of it had been raging for centuries before the first, and second coming of the Nephalem. Bringing Lilith into this game would just be odd, in my opinion. I think I'd rather have a spin-off prequel game about the Sin War itself, probably around the time that Uldyssian first gains his powers. It obviously wouldn't come right after (as the Angiris Council wiped everyone's memory).
Love the idea of Sin War game, but I don't think that too much should overflow into the current Diablo I/II/III storyline (Even though it is still considered the sin war).
I think you might be mixing the idea of 'The Great Conflict' and 'The Sin War' - the 'Great Conflict' has been the bigger war going on before the first coming of the Nephalem- the 'Sin War' sort of describes the pre-diablo series era of events on Sanctuary as a result of its creation (aka the Sin in Sin War i believe). I think you're accurate about us being included in the battles that constitute the Sin War- as it has technically not ended yet. Again I'm not a lore buff- but that's what I thought it was 0_0.
Regardless of what name correctly describes what period in time, it would seem possible for Lilith to return, since if I remember right, she's "just" trapped in the void again.

However, going back to the original discussion of the Diablo-Triune-melding theory... If that is Diablo, then I hope his frame remains imposing. Of course I can't see his body in that picture, but he looks more frail there. Cool, but frail.

The Diablo from D2 is a large and extremely muscular beast. This new version looks older. That's a pretty useelss statement seeing as he is immortal, my point is that he just doesn't look like he has the same muscular and imposing design as in D2.
Granted this is only one screenshot from a 1-sec clip, so so the observation in itself is rather pointless. Just something I thought of.

I think either the 3 evils merged, the new form is his true and unrestricted (by human host's flesh) form, or that his form changed to be that which frightens his foe the most.
The new Diablo does look pretty ornamental. Even though as of now he looks awesome, i keep looking and being reminded of the horrible design of the dragon, Bahamut Sin, from that Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children movie. He looks WAY too ornamental. I hope however that I am proven wrong. Its just that I am so used to the old diablo design that could give anyone nightmares. Look at the old cinematic from Diablo 1 to see what I mean.
I am trying to like his new design, maybe I just havent seen enough to truly have a good opinion on it.
OH btw! His shoulder heads look symmetrical, BUT if you look at the artwork on the 27th page of deckard Cains journal or on the left side of the background on the barbarian's page, there are demons heads who resemble diablos shoulder heads EXACTLY. This makes the idea of his new form being a fusion more believable IMO.
A lot of good points were made in this post, a lot of digging was probably involved (sin war books - can't find them in Hasting's). i was thinking that the cultists might want to summon or resurrect the Prime evils back into the world as one, very powerful beast to tip the balance towards destruction and disorder. W/E, good ideas though ;).
