I have been hearing rumers that one of, if not the main plot of the game is to eventually choose sides, between heaven or hell, and in turn become an angel or demon in the game yourself.
I dont know if this is just wishful thinking, but i think that element is what a next gen mmo needs, with a real sense of pvp combat between two sides.
I think it would be cool if the actaul event of choosing sides would come with an expansion, when everyone has already played through the regular plot and played end game.
All we've heard are rumours. We don't know whether it will be MMO or not. I hope not. The game hasn't even been announced. So there is no information on it at the present time.
Ok, firstly, we pretty much created those rumours. Or at least we created one wave of them.
As for PvP, we do fine as it is, people fight, we don't need our characters to have differant looks to fight, do we?
MMO, pff. From a business standpoint it makes absolutely no sense. They'd have two fantasy MMOs competing in the same market, from the same company. WoW is big enough, more than likely it would survive and Diablo would fall into the abyss, never to surface again. And we don't that, do we?

That probably game from Gamingsteve, and it's old.

Warhammer Online seems to be aiming for just that, and is in the eyes of many MMO-players the biggest thread towards WoW in the near future. Perhaps Blizzard's next MMO seems to combat WAR (Warhammer: Age of Reckoning) by being PvP-oriented as well?

And yet they're releasing a new MMO. I'm thinking that perhaps there will be a joint.subscribe option involved in the realase? Perhaps for just 2-3 more $ a month you can subscribe to both of their games at once? That way they wouldn't necesarily loose as many people. Sure, there still wouldn't realyl be time to play two MMO's full-time, but people wouldn't have to cancel their WoW subscription just to play the new game.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Well what scares me most about this upcomming, "unknown" MMO is the possibility that it is wow 2. Their main motivation, being able to retain the entire wow population plus more, while making an assload of money on the game and new subscriptions.
I Hope blizzard isnt tempted to do this and i hope that it IS diablo 3.

Yeah, if it's a fantasy MMO it'll take some serious accountant wrangling to come out as far ahead as they did with WoW. If it's a SC MMO, however, it would be two different genres, kinda. People who go "Pff, orcs." might go "Awesome, guns and psi blades!"
Blizzard said that WoW 2 wouldn't make any sense at this point. I will probably get completely flamed here but *puts on flame resistant clothes* I would love to see something like the whole heaven vs. hell thing. It would NOT have to be an MMO. Even in a hack and slash game they could give options on quests and make new quests available by the choices you make in game and your character could become more evil or more holy, kinda like the whole Fable thing.

I agree, it is a good concept for a game. The problem in Blizzard's case is it would resemble Diablo so very much, it would end up being linked to Diablo 2 anyway.
I'm not saying that couldn't work out, just that it puts a lot of false expectations on a game that will not be Diablo 3 but which people hope will be Diablo 3.

I would also like to see the Heaven vs. Hell plot unroll, such as your character begins neutral and his/her actions and decided quests would determine the path of choice. An example would be the you would have to ravage a town and capture a treasure, which would be evil and make your character swing more towards fighting for hell, and at the end of the game you would be on either side depending on how you played throughout the game.
How would that be?
I just noticed my grammar was horrible......

Heaven versus hell for sure, but with your character stuck in the middle. Unwittingly aiding one or the other at times. Duplicity of NPCs. Plus certain towns of either persuasion depending upon other events in the game.
But not too complicated. Not like a space trader / faction fighting game where too much of something (e.g. blowing up rather than just crippling a pirate trader) would tip the balance too far towards hell or heaven for the character. D2 was never complicated in that respect.
At worst wearing the wrong gear (e.g. laden with hellish booty) might affect battles, influence prices in town, affect the availability of hirelings or influence NPC dialogue a bit.
You see, Sanctuary is the third faction and the goal of our character is to save it. Not just from hell spawn, but from the likes of Inarus and co as well this time around. We'll need to recruit neutrals and other Nephalem to help us out. Careful, some of the neutrals might really be aligned to heaven or hell!

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
Fairly old post, and the original rumor stemmed from Gamingsteve. I think it's fairly safe to say that as we have gained more info on D3, we won't be able to play as angels or demons.
