-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

i guess baal ressurected him so he could surround himself with powerful demons(at the end of act 5), if not then there was two bartucs
2 Bartucs? Cool. May be he had a dual personality? What about 2 Diablo's than, 3 Andy's, 5 Horizons, 10 Lazaruses & so on?
When Baal summoned him in act5 he either
1. ressurected him before or
2. summoned him from the dead for a while... I mean a kind of ghost or smth like that for a fight.
look all i was saying is that if you read the books found thruout d1 and d2 in game or manuals you will find that there was a man called Bartuc, who became the warlord of blood, who you killed in diablo 1, now as we all know one of the bosses in the five waves baal sends at you is bartuc, he once was a member of the high council like the ones in travincal and the durance of hate.
so there is either two bartucs
or
only one and he was ressurected.

Well suprizingly, its all in the manual for the games, and you can get the diablo books also, which arnt related to the main story, but take place in the diablo world, trust me its fun reading, in one of the books you have a drink at Atmas and you travel to Lut Gohlein. Read these books (first one is my favorite)
Diablo:Legacy of Blood
Diablo: Moon of the Spider
Diablo: The Kingdom of Shadow
theres another one, but its by a different author
Yes but Diablo: Legacy of Blood by Richard A. Krakk
Diablo: The Black Road by Mel Obsen
Diablo: The Kingdom of Shadow by Richard A. Krakk
Are all part of the same series. The Moon of the Spider is part of a different series not that it makes a difference considering that none of them relate to eachother. I havn't got around to Moon of The Spider yet though so i'll have to check that out.
The books are pretty good even if they only relate to the Diablo universe and not the game itself. But there filled with blood and gore and all that sick and twisted stuff that makes a book good.

There was only one Bartuc. The man who fought for the forces of Hell, the one who loved to bath in blood of his enemies. For that he was called Warlord of Blood. For his deeds on Hell's behalf he was granted immortality. (I mean he couldn't die from the old age)
In Diablo 1 we've killed him, yes. But what's the trouble? As I had already said:
When Baal summoned him in act5 he either

well thanks for clearing it up, it does make sense that baal might have resurrected him so he can surround himself with powerful demons
and i did know Bartuc was Horazons brother, but was a little hazy as to whether the Warlord of Blood in Diablo 1, and Bartuc the Bloody (Horazons Brother, also called the Warlord of Blood) were one in the same.

yes, but in retro spec they arent that strong, its that you are what lvl 7 when you fight these guys as opposed to the lvl 20 or so you are when you fight the warlord of blood

A few things came to mind while following this thread, but I'll try to keep it to the point.
First of all, a complete version of the manual of the first Diablo can be found either in the first Diablo or one of the discs of the second as a PDF file, besides this story here it contains other useful pieces of information, mostly in the skills, bestiary and items sections.
Secondly, no, this is not the same Bartuc.
The War Lord of Blood is dead, immortality just means you wont die of old age, it doesn't grantee that you wont get beheaded in the heat of battle (which is what happened).
Eventually the spirit of Bartuc found its rest, to a cretin degree, just before the Wanderer and Marius arrive to Lut Gholein
Bartuc's story has its own contradictions but what we have in act five is not the War Lord of Blood, not even when he is called “The Bloody”.
And lastly, I'm reading the last book now, The Sin War Birthright, and I just cant put in words how much it has shaken so many things about the world of Diablo that I use to take for granted.
The text we have in the manuals are as certified as they can get, written by historians both during and after the Sin War, but considering that they are nothing but second testimony, they can't get sufficiently accurate.
Birthright is written form the few point of demons, angels and those who are in between, it is Sanctuary's most significant text of lore, it has every thing to do with the main story and it IS a must for every one who considers himself to know anything about the lore of Diablo.
