An elderly man wakes up, moving to his feet from his bed, he grabs his cain and slowly makes his way to the window, his grey beard shifting in the air. He pushes the window open, birds flying off of there perch, the bright sun shining down. Finally there is peace on the earth, Baal is gone. Many new warriors train on the grounds near by, not for combat, but because that was the only background they had, warriors for fathers, amazons for mothers. the Village was full of new life, large trees, a blue sky, everything was clear. soon enough the ground would rumble and the elderly man fell back a bit, he clenched the window sill and pulled himself back up, the warriors outside the window...Dead, the ground had quaked open, spitting up a firey ash, only to see the large Claw clamp onto the side, Diablo has come once again for the world.
Character Select:
This time around you do not start with a class, you start with a character, Male or Female teenager. Through the acts you will grow older and you will gain certain skills depending on which path you take to become that type of person. such as a necromancer, or a warrior. (And no that doesnt mean you have to F@#$ a sheep to become a druid.
Act 1:
Boss:
Diablo. He tends to be farther in the game, but i think this would give it much more edge, you would claw your way to diablo through all of the tasks, and once you finally reached him in his dwellings, which arent as dark as normal. I truely see a smaller Diablo, that of a higher form, giving him an almost human likeness, he would be found in a Castle, nothing dark about it, glistening walls, possibly like the Act 4 stronghold in D2. Anyways, Diablo would have his usual strengths, fireballs and such, but with a much more human like physique he could be much more agile to your attacks, now being as i havent given anyone a weapon choice, this is where it would all happen.
Video: The warrior(s) move in swinging there weapons down at diablo, he moves to the side stepping out of a few of the weapons paths, but one comes down towards his head, he lifts an arm, the deep red spiked shoulder cut across the middle, the warrior heaves his sword away, but diablo twisted before he could, sending the warrior flieng his sword clinging to the ground (Thats the first and only person in single) Multiplayer would go down like this: After the first person was slung to the ground diablo kicked up, flipping back, his feet almost pressurising the wind and sending another one gusting back towards the wall, his sword flaling down only for diablo to grasp the handle. With a swift turn he brings it towards the other warriors facethe warrior lifts his sword to block, but with a loud clang it is blown out of his hands from the much stronger diablo, one warrior left standing, he steps back, the unarmored body unprepared for what would happen. Diablo moved forward as the warrior grimaced, lifting his sword he moved forward, only to be met by the hand of diablo around his throat, he flips up, and with diablos immense speed he is back on the ground. blood running from across his head. Diablo gives an evil smirk and lifts the sword impaling the man, he turned and walked away, only for the screen to go black.

As i believe necros and druids are the best, i'll start with a necro type storyline.
Video:
After choosing your character this would be the video you get for a necro. The screen shows nothing but black, soon enough it slips open from the middle, rounding out, and then shut again, it opens, and you see the sky, the camera zooms out to the impaled man on the ground, he heaves the sword up and out of his chest letting it clang to the ground. he rolls over and slowly lifts himself up, he spits out blood as he stands, a trickling line from his stomach with a light dribbling sound. he lowers his hand to it, his fingers slipping inside, he pulls them out and falls back against the wall where the dead characters rest. he lifts his fingers up and lets out a blood curtling scream as the camera swoopss to the outside of the castle, birds flieing off into the now black sky's of the hellish earth.
Within seconds it comes back, -2 years later- is shown at the bottom of the screen, he rests on the wall, amggots festering over his cut, the pale white skin that of a zombie. His eyes open and he gives the evil grin that of the necro species. He slowly stands up and rips off the amazons dark rags throwing one over his shoulder covering his wound and the rest of his body, He turns to the Barbarian and brings his hand down to his skull pulling hard he places a foot on his shoulder decapitating him by hand, he holds onto the braid in the back as he walks away with the maggot infested head in hand.
Action: escape the castle!
The necro begins his way through the castle using the head as a weapon, beating down anything that comes near him, possibly gaining a few levels if you actually are trying to train. He makes his way through the skeletons and other vial creatures in the building. Down the flights of steps and to the castle doors. yes it would take a while, enough to get your fighting kick in. and then you would cut into the next video.
Video:
The necro is found running down a hallway head swinging in hand, he has found the doors out, he gives the evil grin and rams the door, falling back as dust comes off of them, it has been long since anyone was in here. he stops and kicks the door a few times, nothing, but footsteps could be heard, not slowly, but running, he turns around as the headless barbarian runs forward axe in hand, he dives sideways, the barb swinging the axe into the doors slicing the chains off. The necro stands up and lets out a shivering scream, he lifts his hand and uses a new magic ability. The barbarian lets go of the axe and turns around chest facing the camera, he clings to his heart and falls to his knees. rising again and then falling, he shivers in pain and soon enough large spikes come through his skin impaled from the inside. The necro turns and grabs the chains wrapping them around his neck like a nuece taking the rest of it and stringing it through the skulls eyes, he then latches it to his shoulder while he wraps the chain around one wrist, taking the skull as a shoulder pad, and the axe as his new found weapon, he kicks the door open and walks out into the area.
Action!: Do what you must to beat the act, the usual 6 missions and soon you would continue on into Act 3.

little confusing....i didnt get the whole - 2 years later thing- and him still being in the castle were he was struck down by diablo....not sure how he would survive 2 years there...but everything else seems cool
I admire your diversity in everything, this seems very open ended and non linear, which is really good, but opening video is kinda cheezy(no offence) but all of it sounds good. The necro part sounds really cool and awsome but to fit the diablo storyline, necros cant really do what they did to the barb, but maybe if u invented a new char, but all in all its a good concept
Thank you both for your oppinions, yes the 2 year survival thing is very difficult to percieve, but imagine being in an area with such grave wounds that you cannot heal, yet the area around you heels them, you have blood pouring out of you, yet you bugs keep you alive...the "magic" could very well be seen in such a castle run by a demon.
And yes i do admit to a cheesey opening video, but id rather start off with something cheesey to get the mom peering over the childs shoulder going "aww this is so ni-...what the fuck is that?!"

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
so the barbarian that attacked you was that same barbarian whose head you have? assuming he still has an head after two years? and right, the 'after two years' thing seemed way off. besides that, the rest is nicely put
