Let me start off by saying, I've been a long time reader, but with the advent of 1.13 I decided to finally register and participate. So, forgive my noobness and hello!
My friends and I have probably spent more time trying to figure out builds since the patch (what would work, what wouldn't) then we have actually been trying to do any sort of ladder climbing.
Then the idea came around for a Necro- re-visiting the idea of a melee/dagger with a leech twist thanks to the "un" nerfing of my favorite Golem that I could never use: Blood Golem. I've started it on NL to see how it would work out and so far so good to make the move over to a ladder character. Tell me what you think
Stats:
So far, the need has been pretty straight forward. Though, since the boost to dex should need to be there for the AR (yea, the block too, but not so much) I have put some points to dex. Everything else to vit.
Skills:
Max Poison Dagger
Max Poison Nova (synergy)
Max Golem Mastery
-here's where the choice comes in- potentially, you could get enough in +skills to manage with 1pt to Blood Golem, and max Corpse explosion for some crowd control, or you could use it as a main "weapon" and max it.
So the choice goes:
Max Blood Golem
-or-
Max Corpse Explosion
1 pt to Bone Armor (could dump more in there if you want)
1 pt to Life Tap
1 pt to Lower Resist
Those are your two main curses, so far, that has worked very well.
So far, the gear is as such:
Weapon: Fleshripper- gives no +skills, but gives CB and Openwounds, which will help boost any physical damage when poison immunes come along. I was lucky enough to have a poison Rainbow facet to socket it with.
Shield: Currently using a Rare "head" with +3 to PnB skills- truly, you're wanting to help boost the PnB skill tree, but if you want to use one with +summons for the golem or something like Humoc, that would work. Same thing goes as above- socket it with a poison Rainbow facet.
Helm: Um'd Gulliame's- gives more CB and looks cool on a necro.
Boots: Gores- again, for the added CB, OW, and deadly strike.
Gloves: This is rather open. If you can find some IAS rare gloves, thats probably the best idea. Otherwise, you can boost the Life Tap with Trang's.
Belt: Verdungo's- Melee is going to want that DR.
Ring 1: RavenFrost: +dex, Cannot Be Frozen.
Ring 2: Bul Katho's or a some sort of leecher. The leech is important and is going to add to that lifetap and your golem eatting enemy life.
Amulet: A rare necro amulet is best, but Mara's or even a Metalgrid is you want\need the resists.
Armor: Enigma or Fort- the defense and life.
On swap, you could go the cta and spirit shield route if you wanted.
Raise you Blood Golem, cast some LifeTap or LowerResist and stab away!

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I haven't tried the CE yet as opposed to the Blood Golem being maxed. I think in this case you're right though- that Golem should be more of focus and then it would be almost an entirely new take on the build with the leech from the Golem being another form of main damage.

That I don't know, to be honest. I have looked through Arreat Summit and made sure that this was consistent with 1.13 so it could be an effective 1.13 build all around. I checked here as well as other forums (and of course the wonder that is the Blizz forums) to see, but I don't think LR effects poison resist on better inspection. So many 50/50 responses some times it's hard to tell. Those points would be best spent in CE or Bone Armor.
It definitely does. Cruise around in the Chaos Sanctuary for a bit until you get LR cast on you (or have a buddy duel you and curse you) and check out your character screen. I think the confusion comes from Conviction, which doesn't lower poison resist. But LR absolutely does.
Max CE for sure. With only poison dagger and nove without top synergy you will need a extra fire power. I don't see the point in golems anyway, they damage are allways low and you can recast then (so no need to worry with hp and suff).
Also, i would take out like 10 points from golem mastery and put in bone armor/wall/prision. Golems are good tanks but you may need other protection skills since in very crowded areas the golem may not attract everyone's attention.
And one tip: get a good ias breakpoint as soon as possible. This build is based at hit and run with melee daggers (shortest range out there) so you need good animation. Also i believe you should keep in mind dim vision as a possible curse to deal with difficult clusters. Curse then, approach one, kill him, go back, use LR/AD and CE then.

Nice build. I wonder if it could be modded for hardcore? I have never had a successful SP dagger necro.
