The loot thing is a complete contradiction in itself, if you think about it. They complain about not being able to make wealth fast, then go on to complain about how skill respecs will make things go to quickly.
Its not hard for a legit player to make wealth now. Like I said previously, rush for forges, get runes, or lead pub chaos runs for drops. Whats going to suck, is when these two services are no longer needed due to lack of new characters that need them. In fact, its not even just noobs that need them, as currently there are a lot of awesome pvp builds which arent all that great at pvm that generally rely on other characters to efficiently level them. They work both ways, I've benefited from being rushed/power leveled as well as rushing/power leveling. In fact I've heard far more complaints about how hard it is to get top end gear then how its too easy, so any change thats going to hurt and slow down legit players even more is totally ridiculous.
I never said skill respecs will make things go too quickly, as it really wont speed up the amount of time it takes to level a single character. What it is going to do is remove a lot of fun aspects from the game, because this apparently is so much better then just learning the game and planning your characters ahead if you hate leveling that much. Its also going to make characters much more bland and generic. You'll never see a level 60 FoH paladin in a pub run, when its far more effective to level as a hammerdin and respec. I can't wait to see even more generic cookie cutter pvm builds then I currently do.
Yeah how can respect kill the game. I mean it's even better, to create new builds maybe change things up a bit. If you beat the game seriously like 90000 times why should u have to go through all the bs again you wanna get a high lvl and have some fun in hell after all.
Ive given a ton of reasons how it will hurt the game. You failed to give me a single good reason how it will help the game. If you beat the game seriously like 90000 times you'd already have a high level to mess around hell with. In fact, if you beat it this many times you could have multiple accounts full of characters high enough in level to have fun in hell.
We'll see how much longer grief-style PK remains part of D2 -- it's already all but announced to be removed altogether in D3 in lieu of a more fleshed-out PvP system, which is what should have been in place in D2 from the beginning.
Total grief style man. All you have to do is place level restrictions on your pub games, or make them passworded, and it grants you immunity to any grief style PKing you do not wish to encounter. I can understand how people who do not know how to play this game and have probably never built a good pvp character can really hate pvp, but accusing me of being a crybaby when you whine about one of the most awesome PK systems around is lame. At least whine about tppk or tmc'ers. If I join a game and hostile your group you have plenty of time to plan a strategy to get me before I get to you, or to leave the game before I get there. Whats the total loss on here to getting PK'd, some worthless gold and the 10 seconds it takes to join a new game and click on your corpse? Oh my god so horrible lets just remove pvp on this game altogether.
I think the change is great! Im shure this will be balance out and there will be new stuff/dungons you might need to respec to beat. Either that keep your same build and get pwnt Id have fun with that

As far as I'm concerned D2 is virtually dead anyways. They're just attempting to breathe life into it. Now that said, I don't see the point in a respec. D2 is just a game that doesn't really need it. (D3 may be different). In any event it really doesn't matter to me, the game had to die sooner or later, this may or may not help it out.
Also watch your flaming/trolling/rule violating. This is not open season on one another. I see a bunch if posts have already had to be deleted.

Dude, that bullshit you're talking about is the main part of the game. Many of us enjoy the "bullshit" of leveling your character throughout the game.
I'm against respeccing, but it doesn't bother me. I play SP only. I takes away the fear if know you can fix it later. It's like the difference between softcore and hardcore.
Anyway, the hero editor already killed that part of the game for me

Hey cool, let's also allow multiclassing, and change the name of the game to War of the Guilds.

It's hard for legit players to make wealth now because of all the hackers, and all the paysites. If anything, this should HELP legit players, since they can now use one character for a multitude of roles.
Recall a thing called low level duelers?
I can't count how many douchebags I've had in my games with a character lower than mine, or even the same level, murdering my entire party just to scream "N00BZ" in our faces. It's that kind of immature crap that needs to go. If you want to feel good about yourself, don't rely on a game, rely on a thing commonly referred to as real life.

I cant wait till d3 comes out and we can get a whole new line of fans. Luckily blizzard looks AT GAMES THAT WORK and implements them in there games. Though some of the fans would like to stay in the stone age using sticks to make fire instead of matches. I hope this change makes them all so mad they never play again. After all we should just progress backwards right. Oh hero editor has been out for a while now. This will just allow players to do it more legit.

I am cheese. I am loved by all. I go great with everything. Other foods hate me because I take all the glory. Like Nachos..Their just jealous cause no one eats them unless Im there. Shit..I even ruined broccili's rep. Broccili kept talkin shit so I was like. " You know what?, I think I might melt myself on some Broccilli. See how those humans enjoy that green [sexual slur censored] now." Shit...Now,People dont even touch him, unless Im all over that shit! Ahhh..Its not easy, being cheesy.. Peace. Cheese Out.
It's about time Blizzard recognized the need for this. It should have been done when synergies were added and every ones characters were ruined. Better late (really late) than never.
Yes, this will fucking rock on the Sorceress, I hated being forced to only using one element of spells, now I don't have bore my fucking mind by leveling 3 Sorceresses to level 80.
Awesome news! Makes starting an orber in classic much easier instead of relying on other players until you reach lvl 30. I hope we see more great improvements, it's a shame it took Blizz this long to finally impliment some decent changes into D2. Wonder if they'll do this for stats as well, they would have to fix the str bug so people won't abuse it more then they do now.
lols.. you don't have to rely on anyone..
static and ice blast later glaciel spike and blizzard (level1) takes you easy to 30.
In case no one has noticed yet (when I was skimming, I didn't see it mentioned), Bashiok added on the third page "There will be an easily accessed but very limited way characters will have access to respecs, and another way ..."
This could mean that the "tweaking" everyone is getting so hyped up about isn't going to be quite as risk-free as everyone is making it sound. You could be, like, stuck with your build for a while, or perhaps pay copious amounts of gold to do it (and I mean copious!) or you'll only be able to do it once or twice. It won't be like changing it on a whim or not having to make two characters of the same class to have different builds.

I can't count how many douchebags I've had in my games with a character lower than mine, or even the same level, murdering my entire party just to scream "N00BZ" in our faces.
Recall a thing called passworded games? Thats what its there for. Like I said before, what did you lose that makes this feature so god awful that it must be removed? Some guy crushed your internet ego so its clearly a flaw in the game.
At any time you could have made a passworded game, made your own lld to screw with those people, or just switch to a high level and pwn him and tell him how worthless lld's are and he should level a real dueler.
Yes, this will fucking rock on the Sorceress, I hated being forced to only using one element of spells, now I don't have bore my fucking mind by leveling 3 Sorceresses to level 80.
Exactly why respeccing sucks my friend. Every character shouldnt be able to do anything. Example, I made an FoH'din, and he sucked at pvm. He pwned at pvp. If I wanted to level him, I had to get friends to help me in private runs or join pub runs and risk some jerk trying to pk me. Notice I said try to pk me becuase I'd probably reject him and laugh in his face. Now I'm just gonna spec out to hammerdin and respec to foh later on if I want a foh'er. Congratulations, instead of being bored out of your mind leveling 3 sorcs, which could easily be done in less then a week, you will now be bored by pvm characters all being of the same type for each class, and prove your lack of game knowledge by being ignorant to this fact.
Meh, I'm not happy. I like having to stick with a character, even through the places where he's the weakest. if eel this kills role-playing value as well.
Still, it is nice if I were to accidentally put a point into the wrong skill. But seriously, when was the last time any one of us did that? Tis a pretty rookie mistake that doesn't take long to get over.

My typical train of thought: Everything -> Sex -> Diablo
I for one am happy to hear this. I think respecing is a really good idea. Say you find a good item, but it doesn't work with the build you have; then you would have to make a whole new character just to use that item. Now you can just pay the penalty for respecing and use it on your current character. Plus I think, if anything, it will make people more open to experimenting with unique builds because the fear of screwing up a build will be gone. Honestly, it always seems like the Diablo community is split between those that want progress and those that don't.
now finally I could make my barb a ww after all no need to delete him and scare some1 steal the name right when i delete him if u know wat i mean LOL =P
The argument for and against respec is reminiscence of a certain MMO where they made it easier for beginners to get equipment and level, effectively narrowing the divide between those who "can/have it" and those who do not. The usual cry of "good old days"/ "we had it hard then, you babies"/ "am gonna quit" followed.
Contrary to some belief, I see the ability to respec encourages specialisation and experimentation because it lowers the penalty for doing so; It allows players to adapt their characters based on point-of-time equipment.
Now, while the afore-mentioned MMO may have done it to expand their player base, I suspect Blizzard has a slightly different motive. That is, to test and streamline their respec model for D3. "Respec" in a form is coming and instead of arguing about its merit (which is largely moot anyway because it is based on each individual's notion of what "respec" entails.....), it might be more useful to use the D2 test bed and then provide feedback to Blizzard.

Yeah, that makes sense. Just screw up a classic instead of allowing a new concept to be introduced with a new game and fixing it afterwards. What happens if the respec is terrible in D2 and is removed from the blueprints of D3 where it might make much more sense? It's a completely different game, after all. Stupid Blizzard! RAWR!
I'm trying, but I can't see your parallel between WoW and this. One is slightly changing gameplay while the other is flatly scaling the difficulty down. One is just kind of handy and the other makes things deliberately easier. Diablo 2 is notorious for being unfriendly to new players between the vastly complex, angry-player-driven and -set economy and the level of permanency in everything about your character, it's really hard to have fun while you're figuring it out. So it only makes sense to try and loosen up the noose a bit where you can, in my opinion, whether you have D3 in mind or not.
Wasn't referring to WoW; Think the last Sony-owned MMO that did really well. There were a number of game mechanics introduced that make things easier.
In the order of risk, I think Bliz has more to lose at this moment with D3 rather than D2 (financially).
I would think they would rather "screw around with a classic" and get things as much right with D3 from the onset than murk around after. "Murking around" post-release certainly did speed up Hellgate's demise. Introducing "respec" into D2 also renews interest in the franchise (how many naysayers here will be going back to try it out anyway, come on, be honest), opens a ready channel for user-testing and feebback. Highly desirable to Bliz, IMO.
