Duriel is overpowered for normal imo. He shouldnt have Holy Freeze in normal
If you want to solo him then I guess you just have to slowly grind up more levels in Arcane and Canyon, or kill him with a bunch of other people
"You are like a rose in a great rose field. Each rose is so beautiful to me. But if one dies... I can still look at many other roses..." God of Darkness.
Just dish out the damage as fast as possible. Double-swing him throughout the battle and bash him from time to time. That's what I do. If he kills you, get back to the tomb ASAP and continue the assault. Make sure you have lots of health and mana potions as well. Some freezing potions also come in handy.
This is my tip, as soon as you enter his chamber, open a town portal and then attack him without rest. When the health of your mercenary is low or he dies, leave and go back to town and recharge, afterwards go back and face him again. Repeat this technique until he's defeated. I died a couple of times doing this during my first times facing him, when I perfected this technique I never died again. And for the record, he has holy freeze.

I like the life I lived, because I went from negative to positive.
You know very well who you are, don't let them hold you down, reach for the stars.
Use a mercenary, that's really important. Make sure he's defense as well. Have a lot of rev potions or high health potions when your mercenary tackles Duriel, then stay back and "shout" to raise the defense for both of you, so you could stay alive longer. Once you'rre in his chamber, town portal right away in the corner and then wait until your mercenary attacks Duriel. Then go to the opposite side of him and start attacking him.
The result of this is that both of you have high defense and are confusing the boss, making him change directions a lot and not attacking as much. In a few minutes, he should be dead. If your mercenary dies, go and revive him immediately, since you are dead without him.
The stretegy for sorceresses is the same thing, except that you need to stay away from Duriel and static him until he's almost dead. Then your mercenary should take care of him.

Federer lost Wimbledon. Why? Becase none of you bastards cheered for him...
Every time I have killed Duriel it has always been with a hireling. Use them as the diversion and bash Duriel while his back is turned. As soon as your mercenary is dead (usually within a few seconds), make a dash for the portal. Resurrect merc, restock potions, and repeat the above steps untill he's dead.
ALWAYS remember the town portal! That way, even if you die, you will have a short cut back to Duriel's chamber.
I love Duriel because he stands out for being such a strong boss.
Andariel isn't tough.
Mephisto is decently tough.
Diablo is pretty tough.
Baal is easier than Diablo.
But Duriel is insanely hard for the level range you usually face him at.
The Barbarian is the one character I have not played up to Tal Rasha's tomb, but perhaps you could use dual axe's or sword's to get plenty of hit in there each time you engage. If I remember correctly, Duriel is good at blocking.

Duriel does not possess Holy Freeze, instead he employs Demonic Chill (Just like Diablo). Demonic Chill is not affected by having a high resilience to the affects of Cold damage. You could have xaxed Cold resistance, and Duriel would still "freeze" you.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
having something with the mod cannot freeze will help
Sorry, it wont, all freeze auras cannot be stopped by things which have the cannot be frozen stat. Uber Duriel anyone?

Sorry elfen, it is a holy freeze aura.
Taken directly from arreat summit:
"Duriel's Special attacks are a Holy Freeze like Aura, Jab, Smite, and Charge
Duriel uses an Aura similar to the Paladin's Holy Freeze. While the Aura appears to be a Cold Damage Aura, Cold Damage Resistances and "Cannot Be Frozen" will offer no protection from Duriel's Aura."

I'll give you one bit of advice. DON'T ignore blue items lying on the ground just because they are not enigmas. You need some to survive along the way.

use a shield too.
To find the truth, you must risk everything.

You have to admit that he's good.

Killing Duriel in Nightmare is easier than Normal.

Yes, I always have more trouble killing him than Diablo.
