Hi guys, this is the best place for whining about that i think
I installed Diablo, but cant play...When i try to start the game, its like entering the game but 2-3 seconds later desktop shows itself. And Diablo kinda crashes...
My system are:
Windows 7 Home Basic
4 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 graphics card
And I tried even 3 other versions on Internet of it...But its all same thing. I cant believe that how i cant play that oldie game!!!! When i am able to play like 'all games' ever made until now! Except Diablo 1

Try opening firefox into fullscreen, then start diablo 1, so the desktop doesn't show. I don't have the exact same error as you do, but several old programs I have fail to work properly unless I have a window covering the desktop completely.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Strange. My next guess is that the Window Manager (Windows Aero) is messing it up. You can turn it off manually, or use a program like Game Booster.
It could also be that your video card doesn't support SVGA which is required for Diablo 1.
Other than that I have no idea. It would help if you could translate the error message.
How can i turn it off?
By the way, there is no error message. As i said, its a normal shutdown message when a program crashes, nothing special i mean. I think it says in english "Diablo going to be closed." or sth like that...
The worst thing here is, cant figure out what is the problem and its really pisses me off...

I know someone at the Keep is having the same issue with Diablo 1 on windows 7.
In the control panel where you can control preferences for the desktop. Change it to Windows Basic.
It looks like it is crashing during the Install. It might be that windows is blocking the program from installing in windows. Try installing the game directly to c:/games or some other folder. If it is still crashing it could be that Windows 7 is not compatible with Diablo 1. Remember Diablo 1 is about 15 years old

Thanks for your try. But non of your solutions are working unfortunately...What a shame, i cant play Diablo lol.
By the way im downloading the Diablo 4th time, as torrent. Lets see what happens...
(About installing, i cant choose destination folder while installing, that feature kinda closed and you cant click on Browse to change destination folder, weird i know.)
Here is some screenshots from installing screen. Taken from the website which im downloaded Diablo for last time.
The location where it wants to load looks like it is not protected from Windows.
I would explore the CD and not let Windows launch it automatically. I would right click on Setup or install icon in the cd and choose run as administrator. It might be that windows/antivirus might be blocking the access to the registry.
I would also try installing without the antivirus active (make sure you are not connected to internet and to remember to turn it back on after install)

I dont have any antivirus program installed on my system. So gonna try that run as administrator thing before the installment

Well tried all your suggestions. First disconnected from Internet, then run Setup as administrator, (still unclickable Browse button appears) installed. Then run the shortcut as administrator, when it didnt work, used compatibility options too. Non of them work unfortunately...
And about registry, game creates lots of registry when i search on Regedit. I think it doesnt about registry...
And what a shame, I cant even get into main screen, since i tried thousands of solutions.
Game Booster can be used to shut down unnecessary processes like Aero (and identify them easily). Although the desktop option Windows Basic should shut down Aero as well (i think). Another advantage of Game Booster is that if you check everything, then there will be nothing other than system processes running in the background. It will shut down everything that could prevent D1 from working properly, excluding antivirus and firewall.
You can try downloading a pre-installed Diablo 1, but that might be hard to find. If you have another computer you could install it there and then transfer the folder through a USB stick or something. You might need to run a Registry Cleaner afterwards to fix errors. That should eliminate every installing issue. Actually, I'd run something like CCleaner anyway because it can often fix a lot of hidden problems.
You are saying that you don't have any antivirus, that is not something I recommend. There is no way to be sure if there are viruses preventing you from playing. If that is the case there is nothing we can do for you. Try Avast.
Thanks but, im off. Nothing works, im trying to figure out whats going on that game, cant understand what is problem. So, i think there is no way to play Diablo on Windows 7 Home Basic...Im done...
Of course it is possible, people have got it working before. The problem varies from case to case though, making it really hard to troubleshoot.
Believe me, on my computer there is no way! =) I tried 4 different Diablo versions, non of them worked. Tried almost every possible solution, compatibility options, disabling aero, disconnect from internet while install, use patch, use crack etc. Nothing solves my problem
You can always download Wubi and run it from Ubuntu Just temporary until you are bored.
I dont know what u r talking about = ) I think u suggest a different operating system...No thanks, it not worths kinda game like this, which is ruined by Blizzard by not taking care of it... = )

nobody can seriously expect official patches for 15 year old games so they can work on current operating systems
anyway, Diablo 1 can work on Windows 7.
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
OS Version: 6.1.7600 N/A Build 7600
System Type: x64-based PC
=== DIABLO ===
Diablo - installed fine (worked out of the box, no colour issue)
Installed patch 1.09 (caused colour problem)
Fixed colour issue by ticking all check boxes under "settings" in the compatibility tab of the properties box of the diablo.exe and leaving open the screen resolution window in the background (if someone can tell me why leaving the screen resolution window open helped, and it did , I would be grateful)
there's a thread talking about solutions (mostly to color issues) here.
also, in Windows 7 you should always run setup as admin or you may have weird problems (thanks Microsoft /irony off).
it may be irrelevant but since we can't be sure of anything, you should update your graphics drivers. worst case scenario you have less graphic bugs in more recent games
