i hope this is not a stupid question... i have not played Diablo I in a long time... and have been going through it right now... the thing that gets to me is why the Inn Keeper introduces you to the game as "Welcome BACK"... um, where did you go? and why was not the reason of why you are back on put into a game... if there could have been another game before Diablo I why did they not do it... it makes me think there could have been another adventure in the Diablo Universe to play since the Inn Keeper says "Welcome back"... hasn't anyone else wondered about this too?
i hope there will be more games coming out in the future for the Diablo Universe other than Diablo III... i want to play a game based on Cain and play off a game that answers why the Inn Keeper says "Welcome back"...
Yeah, that was always an interesting piece of dialogue by Ogden. It suggests your character once lived in Tristram. I think the script may have been nothing more than to engage you more into the story.
another question about Diablo I is : why is Hellfire only for PC? was it really an Official release and if so why not for Mac too... because all the other Official releases had ports for Mac too... i wish i could have gotten the chance to play Hellfire when it came out... that sucks they neglected us Mac users...
well i did some research and i found a source that said: In the warcraft 2 diablo preview said -"Enter the town of Diablo, and if you survive long enough you will discover what killed your family." wich quite points out that you actually lived in tristram, and when Ogden says -"Goodness you returned" he might actually be refering to that you lived there before... But why is the Protagonist in Diablo 1, in Decard Cains jurnal then refered to as a stranger?
You mean this cinematic right? First time I saw that it was on youtube. I figured someone mistook it for Dungeon Keeper.
"...But since you brought it up, perhaps it is true." - Gillian the Barmaid.
It amps up the story that line without a doubt, as does the bit about Dark Riders. It is possible it wassome quest that got dropped or removed for whatever reason, but they forgot to edit the dialog.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
It's one of two things, it's either intentional like we're speculating, or it could just be dialogue without much thought put into it and we're running away with it. If it is intentional and there's something there that we haven't yet uncovered, I would LOVE to see a prequel. Seeing everything we know about the Diablo universe (and some new things) at an earlier point in time would be awesome. Though some say there's not much to Diablo 1 (as far as gameplay and what not), I feel there's ALOT leading up to the game that could be told.
The thought itself is exciting.
