Its some time since I played. I had sorcerer and not sure if this is my favorite moment but: when those mobs started to appear that kinda didnt mind about fire or was it lightning damage at all and when I realised that I didn't have any other spell.. it kinda sucked I had to use some staff with charges
First of course was the Butcher. He was so flipping HARD to beat when you first play through the game. I thought to myself "HOLY HELL this game is gonna be HARD!" Sadly the game seemed to get easier and easier as you found gear and potions..
Second Moment was that it was the first game I ever played over the internet with others! This was such a huge jump in gaming.. I was addicted from Day 1.. even when some jerkoff snagged my first ever unique drop.. unique crown.. dang what was the name of it!
I was 16 I think when I first got the game... my first character was "Conan" LOL!!! I saw 100 other Conan's running around and thought hm.......... need a new name. Shortly after many characters and many names in Diablo.. I found out about this little game being released called Ultima Online and Have been Vergoth ever since.
My fondest memory though of Diablo 1 was when we started channel "Legit" on B.net as opposed to the "hackers" channel. We all gathered around one day and none of us cheated and we decided to start what we called Ironman Runs.
Ironman running was where you started with a group all new characters.. and played the game straight through without ever hitting town. It was probably some of the best gaming time I've ever had in a game. And yes we did Kill Diablo. It was probably one of my most satisfying moments while playing a video game to kill diablo with a group of people without every buying items only using what you find. I mean you had to get real strategies down since group didn't share experience. Blocking doorways. Letting the mage smack off the zombies in early levels to gain experience etc... it was not easy.
The Warrior did actually try to contain teh demon Diablo for he thought the same Tal Rasha did, althought Tal Rasha would've succeeded if it hadn't of been for that damned Marius. Oh yeah, the warrior shoud've thought about housing himself in a big tomb under the sand, chained up and what not. Crown could've been undead crown or royal circlet.
I do like the horned demons, lmao, my friend and I were on like, lvl 9 or 10, pwning some beasts and I hadn't beaten Diablo before, he had like 4 years beforehand, and, he just said, "OH DAMN! RUN!!" and I ran [walked] and he, for some reason, ran back, and they just charged into him and killed him LMAO, it was hilarious. He was ALWAYS dying, until he got that apocalypse spell.
My most memorable was finding the HOLY SHIT RARE DROP Staff of Apocalypse, which ended up being Diablo's ultimate doom considering I also had Tp up and futt bucking. I didn't do the Dupe glitch to get it but it was awesome to have it drop. And I think the other was playing my first Ironman round I believe one of the guys who started it mentioned it earlier but thnx for created something so fucking godly. Wasted many hours of my life lol
Perhaps the "warlord runs". By repeatedly starting a game and teleporting to the warlord of blood (easier with hellfire's warp) the player could kill him and his followers while the room stayed shut from outside enemies. The warlord of blood always dropped a magic or unique item and sometimes instead a book. The important part were the 4 weapon racks and 2 armour racks near him, which always dropped a magical or unique weapons and always an armour of the plate class (tier 3 armour). This was a great way to get the ideal unique weapon and armour for your character. One can spot if the quest is present within a minute, walking down straight to hell through the fissure and finding steel lords on the level (indication the Steel Tome and WoB are present).
In fact, I'm alt+tabbing right now between this forum and Diablo 1, doing some of those runs to get my hands on "the Grandfather", which unlike Diablo 2 is here a unique katana (great sword) with a highlander-esque ivory detailed hilt. I thought I had found it! But that was Shirotachi, it's hellfire non-special-graphic brother.

"Strange that you say that the Worldstone must be destroyed. The prophecies said nothing about that. Perhaps all we have fought for will be lost…" - Anya
and the first time I saw somebody hack in Battle.net. This rouge walked across the steam in town, I thought that was so badass! (I was only 12-13 at the time.)

As the shadow once again crawls across our world...
...the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind,
The people pray for strength and guidance ..
they should pray for the mercy of a swift death
for I have seen what the darkness hides.
My best moment ever with D1? Ah, that's easy. It was my FIRST moment with the game ever.
My friend had the game on his computer screen and we were hanging out in his room talking.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Oh, that's Diablo."
"Can I try it?"
"Yeah." He said.
So after a few minutes I was enjoying the game and I think my friend told me that players could kill each other online. I was amazed. A guy called me into a dungeon and when I met up with him he killed me instantly. Hacks...hmmmm. So my friend popped on some hacks and ended the guy for me. A little revenge kill for his buddy. We laughed and talked about the game. He showed me the ending and I knew I had to get the game. Still have it and was addicted to D2 for a while.
My first experience was basically Pking. Some people may hate it but the concept blew my mind back then. Scary, but fun at the same time.
Omg, The feeling I used to get when i played diablo 1.
First of all, the "blizzard entertainment" intro and the diablo intro. And then when you created a new char every time you moved the "pentagram" it made a wonderful sound, and when char was created you entered the game and the tristram music started.
Omg, seriously, nothing beats the feeling of playing diablo 1, entering cathedral listening to the music and walking around hitting carvers running from you, reaching level 3 and the classic "Ah, fresh meat!". And once you hit catacombs and "halls of the blind" and read the book, i can't remember how many times i read that book just to listen to the story and the story-tellers-voice.
I never once played it single player, I had my 133mhz AMD computer when this game was released and I remember carrying my computer to a friend of mine on a "milk wagon" and once there we played this game forever and ever, i played warrior he played rogue, killer combo.
But seriously, the music and sounds did more than 50% of the game, when all was quiet you could hear your footsteps when walking around *shivers* that game was scary, I'm getting my salary tomorrow, that means i'm off buying this game and diablo 2 (all over again). This is my third copy of diablo 2, the first one got destroyed in the CD-Rom when i played act 4 (before LoD), and the second copy i've missplaced the cd-key, this time i'll keep diablo 2 close to heart
