I have never bin in a clan or a guild. I did not even know what It was until some years ago. Now I feel the urge to study the rules of having or being in a Clan / Guild. Is there any things that you must do or have? Is there any hidden rules or things that people take for granted when they get into a clan/guild?
Every bit of info are welcome. I think Im gonna start one if I cant find someone with a Clan/Guild.
Oh yeah, have in mind, I have never played WOW or any other online MMO / RPG game before!
Guilds are basically a group of people that communicate with eachother through forums and voice chat, and play games together. A community bassed guild like RHgaming focuses on informing and helping their community. Their focus is Diablo 3 and SC2 right now. For SC2 they have inhouse and arranged team games, and for Diablo 3 they stream live beta footage and talk about anything related to Diablo. They may also have a HoN team too. ANyways, it's easy to sign up for a guild like this one. If you're interested just go to the Rhgamingwebsite.
The first thing I did was start a website. It takes a little but to get it set up the way you want it so it is fairly easy to brouse through. Then you need to advertise. Get people to join. Start with your gaming friends. Build from there. Expand to different games from there. We started as a D2 clan, then added Sc2 and will support D3 as well. Or, start in a clan, stay with them for a bit. Get to know how they operate, and go from there.

Guilds and Clans is just a geeky term to mean team in a video game. Clan is more general term while guild is mostly used in MMORPG (like WoW). But there are no real differences.
In any case, this is a group of people that have one or more games in common, generally same objectives and want to achieve something as a team. A clan can have subdivisions for different games or just be present in one game.
For competitive gaming, clans generally have A players and B players, A players form the front row of the clan and will most likely represent the clan in e-sport competitions; B players are generally pairing partners to train A players or backups.
Communication:
Most clans have both a forum and a voice chat for communication. Often, voice chat is required to speak with your teamates in a game.
How to join:
This depends first on the rules and what the guild is looking for. If you are a possible candidate you just have to follow an application. Most serious guilds will require you to do some form of a CV detailing what age you are, what games you played or at what level you play a specific game. Some guilds will do a voice chat interview. Most likely you then enter in a test phase and if the managers like you you become full member after a time more or less long. All these can be harder to inexistant depending on how elitist the guild is.
Rules (since your asking):
Rules vary greatly from one clan to another, for example:
Usually, clans demand you to help other members. There are different rules from one guild to another. For example in WoW one
guild will forbid its members to sell items between members while another may be ok with that.
You are required to have some qualities. Clans can be friendly with only social decency rules or the can be elitist where both social decency and being a very good player are required.
Some clans or guilds, like my guild in WoW, have certain policies as well, like a charter, stating things like guidelines and history.
My guild has a fairly strict rule stating that NO member may engage other members in political or religious or sexual orientation discussions in guild/clan channels. Also, no member may claim to represent the guild publicly (external chat channels) on issues of real world politics or religion or sexual orientation. If you wish to discuss these topics, you must do so privately.
