Sorry for posting here but can't start a new thread in the Guild and Clubs forum..
Was wondering if anyone is starting up a clan/guild of some sort?
Things we could do before the game is released:
* Create a guild/clan site
* Create a nice rooster of experienced players (anyone registered on this forum is obviously a fan and probably experienced from D1 or D2)
* Make Rules & suggestions..
* Create a network of friends, perhaps some sort of connection with other pre-made clans/guilds.
* Setup teamspeak or ventrilo?
* Anythings else?
If there are to be guilds then I think it will be like WoW (of which I also play.) Whenever you got to a main city or town then you get bombarded with Guilds recruiting. I have a feeling that D3 will be verging on a free MMO in some respects.
It's quite common for eager fans to band together and form guilds well before a game is released. Many of them will implode before the game ever releases, but that is just the usual natural selection.
From my experience, guilds and clans that are formed in the spur of the moment without any real planning tend to die a quick death. Whether or not they started before the game was released has little to do with this. Guilds that have a well defined structure and hierarchy tend to last longer regardless of whether or not they were started before release.
The key advantage to starting a guild prior to release is bonding. Having a group of eager people that is already familiar with each other will give your guild a jump start into the new game and also provide you with an edge when recruiting. For this reason existing guilds and clans also have an advantage upon release - they know each other from prior games and will stick together.
Of course, there are disadvantages as well. Many potential members are frightened by pre-existing guilds due to the fact that much of the dynamic of new guilds is already gone.
With regard to Diablo 3 - I think guilds will be comparable to Diablo 2 guilds or perhaps WarCraft 3 clans unless Blizzard does some extensive work on creating an in-game guild system. Until I hear otherwise I'm assuming Diablo 3 will not have any persistent parts such as Guild Wars or WoW but rather more like Diablo 2 games.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Guilds and clans have a habit or falling apart due to apathy, we live in a growing world in regards to the gaming scenario and to adapt is to prosper. I am involved with a Guild formed in 2002 that was predominantly Diablo related, over the years we have added games and removed them. Currently DDO has a strong representation within the forums. I found that players stopped playing Diablo and wandered off to other games but they still remained active in the forums due to the friendly air about the place.
Good luck if anyone does plan to make a Guild, it is hard work, but the results are worth it.
I plan on making a guild in D3 when I get more info, but if you want a jump ahead on my guild. I'll lay down the basics for you.
I already have my own clan site(clanrawr.ownbb.com)
I have my own clan ventrilo(clan only)
And I already lead a clan of over 100 members on a game called Heroes Of Newerth, so I have leading experience to say the least.
It's not official, but I do have D3 forums on my main website, which is currently being used for my HoN clan for now. I will be coming up with rules/regulations and other things once we know more about the guild system(if we do get info, we could use SC2's system once they implement it there)
We ordered my son this Buffalo Bills (Donte) football jersey for Christmas. He loves it. The shirt is high quality and was just what I was hoping for. I paid a little less than I would have at the mall, but with the free shipping I still came out ahead. I'll continue to order on jerseyshop4u
