Ok Cool. I know Blizzard doesn't want a public ranking system and that is my biggest problem with Blizzard. I really hope that they do start taking interest in competitive PvP. As long as they give us competitive PvP and all the features i listed then we can tell if it would be a good eSports.
At least we agree on the different game modes. I always thought a oddball or a king of the hill and capture the flag modes would be fun. I don't know how well they would work because the arenas are so fast paced. They could also make the maps bigger, add more players, and have team basses. What do you think?
As for the skill is think we are going to have to wait till PvP comes out. I would imagine though that if the skills are balanced in PvE then they would be semi balanced in PvP. I don't think monsters would be so different from players, they would both have HP and defense rating and attack rating. Skills that don't have any use in PvP wouldn't be viable and players wouldn't use them anyway, sense you can change your skills whenever. They could just make them have a different affect in the arena and overpowered skills can be altered in the arenas. If they are going to balance it around PvE then each character is going to have an overpowered skill (which they do I played each class at Blizzcon and they were balanced then). As for it being "confusing to players" why there skill has different affects to other players, I don't believe in at all. The only people that would be confused would be children under he age of seven. Which in their case would be playing in the lower rankings and still haveing fun. Don't compare it to WoW it's not WoW and they could have done the same thing in WoW to make both parties happy but they didn't, look at Guild Wars.

They won't give you competitive PvP and the features you want. Sorry, but Blizzard has made their position VERY clear. They've outright stated as such and the majority of the community is siding with them.
As for skills, you're wrong there as well. Skills in Diablo 3 are focused around killing multiple enemies in rapid succession. This means that abilities have large AoE, are designed around fighting multiple enemies, etc. These abilities end up very powerful vs single targets (as an example, I used corpse spiders to hold single enemies still until they died in beta). Doing drastic alterations to a skill for PvP would essentially create two different skills, one for PvM and one for PvP. That does create confusion and is unwanted by the majority of players. Blizzard knows this as well, which is why they stated they wouldn't be going that route.
Face it, PvP in Diablo 3 is designed for the casual gamer. Its not focused around competitive PvP players. This doesn't mean the game is bad, it just means it is not for those that just want competitive PvP play. Many like myself will enjoy the more casual environment when we wouldn't play PvP as much at all if it was more competitive.
Hey I'm all for underground competitions with D3 pvp, I think that would be a blast. But for those of you hoping to see it turn into a WoW like arena, it's not going to happen.
There will be no;
PVP rankings (visible at least)
PVP only skills or drastically changed (balanced for pvp) skills
PVP only armor and items
This essentially is the nail in the coffin for an ACTUAL E-sport (which would include Blizzard hosted matches, money prizes ect.) And I personally want it to stay this way, because hell it's diablo. I'm not against and would actually speak out for multiple arena modes ( team DM, CTF, position holding, 1v1, ect), but that's as far as my vote will go.

Unless Blizzard adds a means to specifically choose teams, there won't be. Kinda hard to have money matches when teams are random.
Well they already said there will be private arena matches. I don't know why I even wasted my time acting like there wouldn't be with all of those theories I posted. Can't find the exact quote or video ATM, but they said you can join up with friends and kill eachother so thanks?

They haven't specifically stated any form of Private Arenas will be put into the game. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they did add it. That said, I still think you vastly overestimate the drive for people to make Diablo 3 into an eSport. There will be little motivation to enter private ladders over just playing PvP for fun. So we'll end up with a minority that do custom player-run ladders and the majority that Arena for fun. Seems good.

Maybe so, and that is fine. A minority to millions of players is still hundreds of thousands of players. Which is more then anyone needs. I guess you don't understand that ha. There are money matches even to this day on Diablo 2. There will definitively be some in D3.
And they have specifically stated there will be. They said you can join with your buddies and kill each other. No other way to do that then private arena buddy.
Blizzard's position is not my position and there are a lot of others like me and there will be more when the PvP comes out.
Well we disagree about the skills and I think that you should know that the 30 skills the use for Blizzcon were very well balanced. The game is so fast paced that there is no difference between using corpse spiders against 4 zombies or 4 players the PvP isn't about who can do the most damage it is who can survive the longest because all classes have a god mode/skill. All you have to do is time your cool downs with your teams. They could easily put something like this on the skills "45% damage to monster and %35 to players" that's not confusing and doesn't take a whole lot of work.

See.. you seem to think that you position matters more then Blizzards. Sorry, that's just not the case. The bigger picture is that Blizzard doesn't want their game to be focused around competitive PvP. That's pretty much an end of story case. Players may try to make it an eSport, but Blizzard isn't going to support it by adding features specifically to make eSports easier to setup.
The majority of players will just take part in the Arena system provided by Blizzard and play exactly how Blizzard has set it up. Those that try to make the game into something it wasn't designed to be will be a minority and a small one at that.
I am very interested in PvP for Diablo 3, but I see little reason to focus the game on something it isn't.

Unless they mean joining a public game as like a team vs. random. I don't recall them specifically saying killing your buddies or killing with your buddies.

I can't wait till they announce the PvP system. I am gonna have so much fun going over every detail with you and how I can easily turn that feature into an esport or competitive function and Blizzard can't do anything to stop it. Especially since we are obviously in the numbers of ~100 tops, they won't even know what hit em!
PS: I love how delusional PvM players are. "WE ARE THE MAJORITY RAR! U IZ DE MINOURITY!" Keep it up buddy, I love it.

You seem to think I care. I don't care if people setup their own lil eSports. The reality is the core game won't be designed around eSports. This means I can ignore you and your eSports and enjoy the game. The game won't be balanced around your eSports and its direction will stay focused towards PvM. Why would I care what a group of people do on the side?
I can't wait till PvP comes out and then we make it into a very competitive eSports. The moment I played the PvP that's all I could think about. I'll keep this up all day and night because nobody has proved me wrong. The PvP is not going to be out till the end of the year. They don't know how the skills/gear/players or even Blizzard will act when it does and they don't want to trust me for my own PvP exsperiance. So what can I do?

Oh I do think you care. Otherwise you wouldn't waste your time going in every PvP thread and preach about Blizzard and their views. You care an awful lot. Like I said before, get some sleep your arguments are getting worse and worse. Very unlike you....unless you are running out of material.

Don't you know by now? Once a few of these people disagree with your opinion you are supposed to shut up and disappear. You are not allowed to play the game how you want or have fun with it in a way that others don't find fun. Even if it doesn't effect them one bit.

I do care about how the game itself plays, sure. I don't care about how a small group of people setting up their own ladders when it won't have an effect on how I play the game at all. The game will be designed around challenging PvM and casual PvP. I shall find both extremely fun. If some people take those systems and make their own private ladder that I won't even see, what possible reason would I have to complain?

I don't know, you seem to find an awful lot to complain about when it comes to us lowly minority PvP'ers.
Diablo 3 is a pve first game that has pvp in it for fun, most likely won't be balanced according to blizzard blues, they said they want you to feel overpowered, no gimped into doing little damage to be a fair fight.
I don't know, you seem to find an awful lot to complain about when it comes to us lowly minority PvP'ers.
Complain? No, you're the one that complains that you don't get what you want. I specifically point out WHY you're wrong.
Back on topic. We're not likely to see eSport features implemented officially. Any eSport level play will be unofficially run by players. This is evident by Blizzard's statements themselves. There is little room for debate here as Blizzard has made their position quite clear. Since official PvP won't be available for some time, it will be some time before we know what additional features will be needed.
