teams could be any number of players from 1-5. each team could consist of any mix of characters. teams could host or join other teams race that were created. there would need to be some sort of lobby, somewhere to see each member of a team with dps/stats etc. or it could be a random per person entry.
a race would consist of at least 5 check points and a final "boss" which would be set to any of the new difficulty levels. each check point would be a small dungeon section with white mobs and a pack blues or yellows. it would grant a valor stack and loot. there could be check points with multiple packs. but they would all be short with limited running needed. the sections could come from anywhere in the game for varied environments. a portal would unlock when the pack was defeated. the final round would be a boss character also from anywhere in the game. both teams would fight the same packs. dead people would need to be rezzed by another player. teams couldnt continue without the entire team being alive. whichever team makes it to the boss and kills em first, wins.
when a team creates a race they list the bet amount. want to play for a million a person? 100 million at plvl 10? go for it. all gold dropped on the ground from both sides goes to the winning team. this could be tracked on the screen somewhere for added motivation as it ticks up during the match.
the best part, besides the gambling, is that each player would only get his/her loot if they were on the winning team. it would just go into some special bag automatically during the match. if you lose the match you lose the loot. it could even troll you and flash an unIDed set piece/legendary in your face if one dropped and then set it on fire. really rub in that lost match.
there would be a house fee creating a gold sink. standard 10% juice. also, being a game of skill it could technically be legal to bet with real money which would be lots of fun.
hopefully i didnt subconsciously bite off someone's idea. but it came to me during an episode of law and order svu.
The idea is quite good i'd say. Of course with additions to it,like adding some randomness so that gear isn't the only major factor involved.Like Random handicaps like -30% hp for 3 mins or -40% resistances. And of course similar buffs. And Res timers starting from 30 seconds so each death matters. And many many more details.
I just hope that when blizzard adds PvP to diablo they add more than just deathmatches. Objective play is a must have in my opinion.
