I would do as most ppl recommend. Play single player or with a friend who you trust. And if you play with a friend is it a good help if you can use somthing like skype to talk to eachother. Then don't rush it to the next difficulty. Stay and farm some gold/gear and when you feel that you think you can handle it good in the next step try it out, but not to fast until you notice it's going well. In hc it's never good to rush. Always wait for cooldowns incase of elits. A good tip is to practice fights with an softcore char before playing to much on hc. This way you reduce the chance on dying Hope some of the tip will help you.
IMO it's easier to solo than to group, period. There is no 'brick wall' where you need another person. If you're feeling this way, you're probably 'the slack' and need to simply farm more and upgrade more.
In response to folks that say you are more likely to get blocked/surrounded solo - I disagree, because you are the only one (intentionally or accidentally) doing pulls on mobs and will never be rushed or suffer because your friend did something dumb. I group with a friend and once vs knockback elites we each got knocked back (stupidly) in to black, in opposite directions, and each pulled another elite pack. It was terribly dangerous and would have never happened solo.
Stuff like that is rare but it only takes 1 time out of hundred+ hours and you've lost your character
(I'm in A2 Inferno HC)
Also a tip, grind to lv 60 in Act 1 of hell. 50-60 takes a while (8-10 hours?) and is boring, but equipping lv60 gear at that point makes hell much safer and then you're ready for inferno
Seriously people, stop making judgements about how doable the whole game is just by playing act1 or even act2 inferno. Acts 3 and 4 are WAY WAY harder. In my opinion with all the changes in patch 1.0.4 your best shot at clearing inferno at the moment is with a full party and ventrilo/skype. Now I'm not saying it's not doable solo, but a good party will definitely make a big difference.
I'm now in A3 inferno (just downed Ghom) totally solo, have solo'd the entire game. I can say for 100% sure that A3 is not hard with good gear. In fact, I had a WAY WAY WAY harder time back in 1.02'ish in Hell A3 than I am having now in 1.0.4 in Inferno A3.
I have been able to handle every single pack/situation/etc from start, through Ghom. Only saw red screen once when fighting a horde pack of 2h skeles with teleport (they had been beating on me a bit, and then all teleported on me and attacked at once). Was still totally fine didn't pop SV or anything (WD) screen just starting to turn red
Ya I stick to solo games or games with friends. I just cant trust my hardcore character to random people who might just have +mf/gf and trying to farm.
you can basically solo without repeating anything. Just get some the cains set for about 100k asap and put an exp gem in the helm. wear vit. everything before inferno is pretty faceroll
You can easily solo up to hell. In hell difficulty it can be a bit risky depending on your gear but its still not that hard. There is definitely a item check if you want to progress in inferno solo. I would start to group with some friends in Act 1 Inferno and do farm runs.
In the end its just all about the gear. I farmed aloooooooooooooooooot in act 1 with my monk and was afraid about act2 and baal but some day i just went for it and did the complete act2 including belial in one night solo and also soloed act 3 up to Ghom.
I would say that it is risky in act 3 and act 4 to solo because in these acts you get a lot damage very quick (with good gear) and so it is way easier if the damage dealt is splitted up on more group players. Also its more likely to get blocked or surrounded when you play solo.

Your profile page shows almost no resistances, LOH and regen. Is that your regular equipment?
I enjoy playing my hardcore singleplayer and softcore multiplayer. I just beat normal and am about to start nightmare in hardcore.
What difficulty do you think I can reach in hardcore before it becomes unnecessarily difficult and risky? Hell? Inferno?
From my experience, soloing is not harder, it's just different. In a group you do things that you don't do when soloing and vice versa. If you know your class well, upgrade your gear regularly, don't risk too much and stay focused, you'll be perfectly fine.
